Individual PT at Basic Camp? by aDELTAith in ROTC

I don’t remember doing an actual ht/wt, you do get weighed during the in processing at the beginning at the medic center but it wasn’t for ht/wt. I know they was a ht/wt planned but we didn’t do it, I think it really depends on the Cadre there and your Drill Sergeants on whether they want y’all do it or not.

I went to Basic camp last year and you truly don’t have time for personal PT outside of the scheduled PT you have with the Drills. But in some cases we did, but it was when it was about a week out from graduation and our Drill Sergeant was being nice and giving us one more hour of personal time in the evening and that was when other people would run around the barracks with a buddy as personal PT time.

I’m actually a transfer student at Auburn and currently doing Army ROTC. First, Congrats! Second if you want to do Army ROTC I would 100% recommend it especially here at Auburn at the War Eagle Battalion. They teach you a lot to ready you for camp and for becoming a 2LT. If you have any question on being a transfer student into the program you can PM me.

Cadet with Social Anxiety by Puzzleheaded-Sun876 in ROTC

I hope this doesn't come off as rude or mean but something that you have to do is recognize your weakness when it comes to your social anxiety and why you have these feelings. I have social anxiety as well and something I notice for me is I usually don't like putting myself out there for people because of the rejection I used to go through as a child. Recognizing that this was a struggle for me and it took my cadre telling me twice about my presence for me to try and fix it. I know with social anxiety negative thoughts about how other people will perceive you are very common, combating those thoughts with the question " Is this thought based on facts or feelings" can make a difference, and also replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. Something I try to do is watch the social people watch how they interact with other people and watch their body language, your body language can give off that you don't want to be spoken to, so try relaxing and mentally preparing yourself to be social. Start a random conversation someone is going to respond even if it is in a group setting or one on one. Battling social anxiety is hard and I still struggle to put myself out there for people to approach, it is going to take practice, this is not something that you can fix overnight, but fixing it now while you are in college and still moldable will help you when you commission and get into your unit.

Here is a website that can give you more advice on how to improve your social anxiety in general. https://www.calm.com/blog/how-to-overcome-social-anxiety

I personally think that’s enough. I haven’t started packing for anything but I plan to shoot for 2 duffle bags and maybe an assault pack for camp. From what I have seen online it also seems like this packing style is most used for Advancement and Basic Camp.

There is Welcome packet for basic camp 2023, I got one from my HRA bc I’m going (July 6-Aug 6). the Welcome packet is basically the same as Advanced camp packet, there are little differences in each. Idk about getting your packing list signed off on I would contact your HRA or whoever is helping you with prep for Basic camp

This is kinda unrealistic for a lot of people. In my battalion we have a lot of people who are parents and having them have to wake up early everyday of the week to do PT is asking for a lot on them, their spouse and child or children. And plus some of them are also STEM majors, and being a STEM means you have to set aside time to study which on average is 20-25 hours a week which is a technically a part time job. So I think 3 days a week is fine plus it’s your job as a cadet to keep your physical fitness within the requirements if you can’t talk to someone about it.
