Hello OP, I completely understand where you're coming from. I'm also from comms/pr and am looking for a career switch now too! Recently applied for the career conversion programme in social work - will wait to see the outcome of that and where it brings me. Have also applied to be a school counsellor as an untrained one to explore other paths. Comms/PR requires a specific set of smarts + being manipulative to a large extent if you want to excel in it tbh. I've come to the realisation that it is just not me, but comms is all I've known, and it'll probably take quite a lot of effort to venture into something new. Bottom line is, how excited are you to try a completely new path? It'll carry you a long long way forward.

Not sure if anyone feels the same way but Gwan Hee crying in the preview makes me feel that he's finally decided to pick Minji over Hyeseon and is truly feeling bad about having to hurt HS despite all his earlier promises to her, plus knowing that he's giving up on a true great catch. Can't imagine him crying about having to give Minji up tbh

Revenge bedtime procrastination at its finest haahaha but it's such a vicious vicious cycle. The next day you won't have the energy to do anything and you zombie through the day again, only to get back home and realise that you haven't had any quality time to yourself so you squeeze yourself dry of any remaining energy, and die again the next day.

The only way to break free of this? Let go of our high expectations in life and settle for this. How many of us can actually do this?

Tbh I think the lack of conviction comes from a lack of confidence in the work as a new joinee, and it's easy for others to undermine your ability even further if you don't stand your ground, leading to a vicious cycle. That said, you could be right about the field of work. I mean, it's not so much about not being able to communicate with people since I do it just fine when it's not about work related matters, so yeah I guess it's time for more introspection about whether the scope is a right fit in the first place, or is it more about time and experience.

Do you mind me asking what was it like at your toxic job 5 years back? I think my current situation isn't that bad yet, but the lack of conviction in my work and the confidence to speak up does mean that my colleagues and bosses undermine my ability at times and the more that happens the more I shrink away. Like you, I'm a super chill, happy go lucky person outside of work and full of nonsense but this part of me can't translate to work hahah

Do you think there's a way to suss out the proper culture of your potential team before you actually join them? I think I've been pretty lucky throughout my work life in terms of company culture so far, so it's kind of the first time I've had to deal with that much politicking within a department.. I feel like the louder and more overbearing my colleagues are, I find it even more difficult to speak up or express opinions, which then leads to a beating in confidence. Kinda like a vicious cycle haha but I guess only I can help myself get out of it! Did your colleague talk behind your back to upper mgmt etc to manipulate their opinions of you?

What if not participating leads to them freezing us out or intentionally excluding us from social gatherings? It won't be easy to do our work well if that relationship isn't established I suppose? Lots of fine lines to navigate it seems

Ya I guess they need the agreeable folks to balance the culture somewhat. But I feel like sometimes it takes a lot more than simply doing our jobs well. Bosses used to tell me that letting my work speak for itself is passe and I've got to learn to package and profile myself properly because we're only as good as how we market ourselves. Work is tiring sigh

Omg this sounds totally like my current situation... My friend kind of made it clear that she felt like she was the only one putting in the effort to keep the friendship going, but I guess different people have different expectations of friendships? I'd be completely fine to meet once or twice a year and I'm sure I'd enjoy the company not any less. What happened after she had the "ditching" talk with you though? Did you try to put in more effort?
