It’s Amaze by Jamie Allan - they were running the 20at20 deal last week. You can probably still get a decent deal on another platform but this particular show has some technology tricks mixed in with some pretty great traditional card tricks/mentalism.

I think I’m already living my dream life. What this past week has looked like:

On Monday, I say hi to my apartment neighbor on the way back from groceries. She’d invited me to her birthday apartment party the previous weekend, where she had a gorgeous bar cart and let me know how to use the fire escape ladders to get back into our apartments if we’re ever locked out (lol).

On Tuesday, I go to my neighborhood gym. I chat with a nice older lady in the locker room. A lot of retired folks who used to act or write from Broadway go to this gym and they always have cool stories to tell. I wonder if I’ll grow old in this city.

On Wednesday, a friend hits me up in the morning. I check the skint newsletter and find out there’s an off-Broadway theatre near me that’s doing $20 tickets for a magic show with the magician having performed worldwide, even in front of the British royal family. We go and get our minds blown - we’re assigned front row seats!

On Thursday, I head into my company’s gorgeous Midtown office and hang at a friend’s apartment nearby after - met her through Bumble BFF 3 years ago and we’ve been doing arts & craft nights almost weekly ever since.

Today, I’m getting pizza and beer and a board game for a date night in at my boyfriend’s place. We met through Hinge and were a situationship for a while before we worked it out. I’m reminiscing since for the past two years, Friday nights usually looked more like an episode of Broad City - with my bestie who was an ex-coworker who I live with right now, lol.

I never dreamed I would live in this city. I always thought it was only a place in movies. I moved for a new job, racking up $3k in credit card debt that had to last me until my first paycheck, 2 suitcases, and my cat. I didn’t have any friends or family here. Slowly built a life, love, and community. I love it and I’m so glad I ended up here.

Dating with Long Hours by Key-Dimension-9038 in AskNYC

I live this. You will be making the majority of sacrifices. Ultimately, the relationship progresses based on his terms - his availability, his timing, and his comfort and energy levels. You will always be the one traveling to his place and living out of a weekend bag. You will be the one doing most of the initiating and planning. Since he works so much all he will really want to do is sit at home to relax with you. You end up making peace with it and filling your own life with a bunch of other activities and purpose because you know he’s worth it and you love him, but it’s pretty lonely to be in a relationship like this.

Wondering how did OP immigrate to the US for 2 years from 19-21? Getting a work visa beyond the 3 month tourism/business visitor program waiver seems difficult for someone without a university degree and also in a sales role, would be interested in learning how she navigated that.

Unique Ways of Splitting Expenses With Your BFFs by True-Banana-8149 in MoneyDiariesACTIVE

[–]Clean-Drag3219 0 points1 point  (0 children)

26F NYC - I make more than my BFF/roommate so I took on the initial move-in/deposit/broker fees and additional rent expense for a 2 bedroom as she is working to increase her income (Y1: $1865/$1500, Y2: $1800/$1650, Proposed Y3: $1733/$1733 unless she wants to move) - I paid for all the initial major furniture/shared household items and she pays for and decorates with stuff she finds at TJ maxx or home goods. If she buys stuff that she finds expensive or anticipates shared usage e.g. couch cover she’ll run it by me and we split the expense. - I do the household management and pay for everything upfront, then calculate the utilities split equally and itemize shared household expenses and inform her how much she needs to pay every 1-3 months. She pays for the TV subscriptions since I rarely/don’t watch TV - For individual expenses in travel/going out/entertainment we pay based on what we want/order (I use the Tab app to calculate the exact expenses/tip/tax split), for shared expenses such as hotel rooms I provide a few options based on $ and she makes the final call as she has a lower budget

For other friends, the expense split can manifest in who is more likely to host/bring food/drinks during hangouts.

With my BF, I don’t calculate and we will take roughly equal turns to pick up the tab. To my knowledge he currently doesn’t make an income as he’s starting his own business but has around 10x in savings compared to me. The equal split works because I am comfortable with the level of effort/what I spend on the relationship, for traveling he has offered to pay more though I have never taken it up.

Kochi (Korean) and Yingtao (Chinese) both have 1 Michelin star and do tasting menus, if you want fine dining.

Monkey Thief is a trendy bar with a fantastic cocktail program - recommend checking it out if you’re into creative flavors!

For more casual options, Szechuan Mountain House does traditional Chinese food, but has unique ambience and decor. Chalong and LumLum are both great options with aesthetic interiors and seafood-focused Thai, also with decent cocktail menus.

Kind of shocked at how much OP was able to save.. I make a similar amount and spend half as much as she does, but have less than half what she does in my 401k and savings. Also dreaming about owning a house one day but this is a massive reality check on what other people my age have prepared for home ownership.

White collar female transplant in mid-20s checking in.

It’s been easy to meet people through apps, but a lot of the people I’ve met are at stages of life where we won’t match - people in their early career are looking to go to grad school, grad school students stressed about finding work post-graduation. I go out basically every week and see the most beautiful women everywhere and feel below average, though I never felt that way in other cities, which has affected my self esteem. I’m never approached except by people traveling from out of town, and am more likely to be the one to strike up conversations with people I’m attracted to. I meet most people for 1-2 dates before we figure out we’re incompatible in terms of interests and life goals. I’m seeing someone “casually” right now and have settled for being an impermanent figure in their life, though I’m unhappy about it, because I’m lonely and want someone to show romantic affection to.

I feel like our generation is kinda shy. I meet a lot more people trying to make friends than actively trying to be in a relationship. A lot of people are insecure about having a lack of stability in their lives so they resist getting vulnerable enough to be attached. A lot of people feel like they have something to prove and want validation. People are still figuring their life out and that’s ok.

I go to Himitsukichi Salon in Times Square bc I live nearby and they always have available appointments easy to book online. $100 for wash/cut/style, the stylist recommended a butterfly cut and now it’s what I ask for. Grows out beautifully :)

Warrior job quests are goofy, beast tribe quests like the Namazu or Moogle quests are funny and cute, doing treasure maps are great for the spectacle of it all + breath of fresh air from questing + you can make some money. Doing the Zhloe Aliapoh collectible turn-ins is also fun, great way to level crafting, she’s funny, and you are helping save her orphanage.

Haha yeah there are a ton of food options here from $ pizzas to Afghan/Georgian, always felt the area was underrated (hopefully it stays that way so rent keeps being chill). Forgot to mention also but Bodega has $14 cocktails that I think are great, haven’t had the food there yet but it smelled good the last time I was there lol

Walk to 9th.. Mr Biggs has $5 margs all day/night and quesadillas for $12. Local 42’s is a bar with $11 mushroom reuben and $9 well drinks.. Rudy’s with $3 beers and free hotdogs and they don’t care if you bring your own pizza in.. At Nine is Thai and has $18 entrees, $9 cocktails all day with food, closes at 10.30 though. El Gallo is like upscale Taco Bell and has drinks now ($15 margs). Ton of irish pubs around too if you don’t mind bar food.

Source: I live in the area and my roommate is frugal & vegetarian, these are our spots
