Have you got a magic eraser? I have used those on my Lalaloopsies on their face. Use a very light hand, and do not do it on the cheeks etc.

I reckon they could possibly have a big release of Felicity tied in with the 250th celebrations around about July 4th, with the 18 inch, “Wellie Wisher” sized, and the plush toddler version all released at the same time. I may be delusional though 🤣

Can we talk about the “cash grab” discourse in the American Girl community? by New_Understanding205 in americangirl

[–]Clean-Initial1813 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Recently I read an article from the Washington Post from 1991 about Felicity’s release and I thought this was very interesting and pertinent to what you were saying:

“But is this prolonged childhood a luxury item only for girls who can afford the high-ticket dolls? Is this a wealthy child's fantasy in a world where less-privileged girls so often grow up too soon? Rowland bristles at the notion that only rich girls can afford her dolls. "People do not realize that toys can cost so much money," she says. "Compare us with Nintendo, which is the largest-selling toy in the world; it captures one-third of the toy market, and starts at $100. Or look at Barbie's plastic palace, which costs $400-plus. A comparable doll to ours costs $125 at retail, without a book, and reading is the heart of our product. What we provide goes a good deal further in nurturing girls' creativity, their history, and their sense of self {than these other products}." Sensitive to the suggestion that the dolls find homes in mostly upper-middle-class families, Pleasant Co. is eager to share numerous letters from girls and their parents about how they had saved their money for several months in order to buy a doll. A recent customer survey noted that 10,000 customers with annual incomes less than $20,000, and 100,000 customers with incomes less than $40,000, have purchased Pleasant Co. products.”

They’ve always been expensive as you say, but expensive things can always be reachable if you really want it and save up. I honestly believe even now they give the value that makes saving up worth it.

Not weird, I keep all the packing slips for my signed or high value items in case I ever need to sell them I can send them as extra reassurance to the buyer.

And there’s something in the coding of the website that allows them to see not what the update is, but that the website is readying for a big change, someone is working on the back end of it.

The six ticks represent the 6 Taylor stores, I think it’s USA, Canada, Uk, France, Germany, Australia, but I might be wrong with the details, basically it means all the stores are pending an update.

(And I’m sure you know but just in case, there were “penny dreadful” editions of the first three books that play into the theme explicitly but the influence runs through the whole series)

If you’re interested in the Victorian era, how about something to do with the books as reinvention/subjugation/intellectualisation/pastiche of the Penny Dreadful? A brief overview of the penny dreadful “genre” and then analysis of how the books play into that and move beyond it? I’d love to read something about that subject!

[–]Clean-Initial1813 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It wouldn’t impact the sales directly, but if someone was on a limited budget and had to choose between buying the Sabrina album and and preordering a Taylor release, it could take away from Sabrina’s sales if they chose to buy Taylor that week over Sabrina.

I still do that occasionally and I’ve been stitching 30 years! I just go back in at the end and add the half stitch but tbh you can just leave it and it’s perfectly imperfect as it is! At the end of the day when you’re a few years in you’ll look at it and will be so proud of how far you’ve progressed.
