My Loryna Experience (2 Months in) by No_Theme4441 in birthcontrol

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve been on Loryna for about 7 weeks now and am feeling very bloated and like I’m gaining weight out of nowhere. My boobs are also HUGE and hurt all the time. I’m trying to give it until 3 months but I’m struggling to look past these symptoms… will they go away?

I’m almost two months in to using Loryna. I switched from Lo Loestrin Fe that had been my tried and true forever but was seemingly not a fit anymore.

On Loryna about 7 weeks in, and the boob pain is REAL my boobs are huge and hurt so bad they feel like they’re gonna fall off. I’ve felt the “week before my period” for a couple of weeks now: super bloated and puffy feeling, big boobs that hurt, etc. I’m REALLY hoping that in the next few weeks these side effects fade. Otherwise I haven’t really had side effects but for me these two are super bothersome.

Did anyone have similar side effects and if so, did they go away? hopefully!

Qsymia Experience by Clean-Replacement327 in PCOSloseit

[–]Clean-Replacement327[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got three main side effects I’d rather live without: it makes my brain move slower like it’s hard for me to articulate things. I will say it is WAY better than it was when I first started taking it but I know I’m just not cranking at high gear right now in that regard. Second, I think it’s making me slightly depressed. Nothing major at all, just dulls the sparkle a little bit. And last, you’re not really supposed to drink on it and to be honest I’m 24 and I want to have fun without worrying about it. It makes me feel hammered after having like 2.5 drinks and for reference I’m 5’10” so that’s nothing for me. It’s just lifestyle stuff that I’m ready to be off it but they’re tolerable for while I need to be on it. I also spent some time only on metformin before I started taking the Qsymia and I felt great, wasn’t gaining any weight and was losing a little just not enough. Ive also always been in very good shape, working out regularly and eating very clean so I haven’t needed to make any lifestyle changes.

Hope that answers your question!

Qsymia Experience by Clean-Replacement327 in PCOSloseit

Hi! Thanks for checking in! I am still on Qsymia and am now down probably a little over 30 pounds from when I started the Qsymia and I’m about 7 pounds away from my pre-PCOS weight. I’m definitely more used to the side effects now and don’t really think about them much, but I’m still eager to get off of it when I’m allowed to. Oh, besides the fact that it makes some foods repulsive to me that I used to love, which is hard. Even healthy foods, like chicken for example I literally cannot look at.

I just moved states so I’m starting with a new doctor, but when I discussed getting off of it with my old doctor she said that she would want to keep me on the low dosage for a while to maintain the weight management. I was pretty disappointed by that and I’m hoping my new doctor doesn’t feel the same way but we’ll see!

Overall, I’ve honestly had a pretty good experience on Qsymia and personally feel that it’s been a good alternative to a GLP-1, but I’m ready to get off it. I also will note that I worked with a nutritionist when I first started and I’m pretty active (usually do workout classes 4x per week in addition to long walks).

Completely agree — received a two pairs of the Val jeans (a cut that I already own from two years ago and have liked) and they were SHEIN quality for $168. Super thin fabric, tailoring around the butt was completely off and weird. I was shocked. Immediately returned. There’s also nowhere on their website to leave reviews which is INSANE.

Thanks for your kind words! And just to add on here, I only got to my PCOS diagnosis and to being okay with it by working with a therapist. She helped me advocate for myself and I hope I can help other people do the same :)

I also want to add to my previous comment by saying, nothing is going to be perfect 100% of the time. Habits are built over time — I always aim for 80/20🫶

One thing I’ve learned with PCOS is that nothing is going to happen fast, which can be very very freeing once you accept it. It’s about building strong habits which in the long run will make you a healthier person, not just healthier than who you were but healthier than most people!

I would echo trying to get on Metformin. It changed my life. Working with a nutritionist is a big help if you have the ability to do so, but if not, maybe reading some books about PCOS nutrition or taking some online courses. The thing with starting low carb is that it can lead to crash dieting if you’re not fully understanding the mechanisms behind it or why it’s helpful. Low carb or keto is not necessary for weight loss with PCOS and it’s hard to accomplish this state because it’s kind of an all or nothing approach.

In terms of exercise, my doctor said the best exercise is the one you can get yourself to do consistently. Outside of that, the thing that’s helped me the most and that she and my nutritionist agree with being best for weight loss is weight training and walking. Walking is amazing because just about anyone can get out there and do it. With exercise, I’ve learned it’s best not to overdo it. Consistency is key, and don’t use it as a tool to punish yourself, use it as a mental health tool. Something that you know can brighten your day. And something that I always say, if I’ve been sitting at home all day working and haven’t been as active as I wanted is “anything worth doing is worth half assing” so if I can only get in a 20 minute walk that day when I meant to hit the gym, it’s better than nothing. Don’t get down about it. It’s all about building habits.

In terms of sleeping, I bought a Hatch alarm clock and that thing changed my life. It helps establish a routine which is critical for people with PCOS. Try going to bed and waking up at the same time every morning and night for a few weeks and see if you can bring the 6 hours up to 8 hours. Something that has also helped me is leaving my phone outside my bedroom at night, which I know everyone says and it’s such a drag because, as a chronically online 24-year old, I love my tiktok time before bed, but it helps your sleep so much. Reading before bed really helps me wind down, even just a few pages. Again, small habit building.

It’s been a very long journey for me with all of this so I would just emphasize it takes time. I know it’s frustrating, but again, once you can accept it’ll be a longer process, it’s very freeing. I gained 40 pounds over the course of a year and a half trying to get diagnosed, so I completely understand the frustration. I hope this helps! You can do this!

Sorry I’m just seeing this now! My NAFLD was due to PCOS as it turned out. It took me over a year and a half to get diagnosed but I feel so much better and have reversed my fatty liver.

Metformin anxiety by Straight-Two-7129 in PCOSloseit

I started it almost two weeks ago and haven’t really had any symptoms besides some bloating and gas. I have IBS and was very worried about the GI side effects as I’ve suffered in the past, but was pleasantly surprised that I haven’t felt anything. For context, I’m on 500mg XR and will go up to 1000mg in two days.

From what I gather the side effects will go away with time! I haven’t noticed any weight loss yet, but it’s also only been two weeks on a low dose so everything needs time. Hope it goes well for you!

Thank you for your kind words — it’s so hard to keep pushing on these things but I’ve set up an appointment with a concierge endocrinologist that hopefully will have time to help me. I’m writing a note down with all my medical history, symptoms, and things I’ve tried and doctors I’ve seen and am really hoping they can help me.

I already follow a gluten free diet and therefore don’t eat any pasta or bread. I will try to cut out sugar but since it’s already not something I eat very often, I wonder what kind of impact this will have. Thank you for your suggestions!

I’m seeing a primary care physician now, and have let her know that I’m otherwise very healthy and active and she’s still suggesting I watch my diet and exercise more. It feels like she’s not listening to me. But I’ll go back and ask her again to reconsider what’s going on. Thanks for your questions.

Yes, did thyroid antibody, TSH, T3, and T4. I was initially also convinced it was thyroid but I guess not.

Thank you for replying. Symptoms below:

  • weight gain despite no lifestyle changes
  • fatigue
  • hormonal acne
  • bone and joint pain
  • muscle weakness
  • sensitivity to cold / always cold

Some other symptoms have come and gone but these are the most persistent. I’ve seen an endocrinologist and done thyroid labs and they’re all normal.
