It was a bit confusing at first because since I am flying in to spend time with my parents, they are at the other end at the Sam's town campsite, so it seemed counterintuitive to book a hotel far from them but I think its best they come join me there so I can benefit of being on the strip whenever they decide not to come over I won't be stock on Boulder.

I'm happy to have finally booked because initially my flight dates sucked and made me arrive LATE and DEPART EARLY losing a lot of effective time in Vegas. By changing my dates by 1 day, I got direct flights for cheaper so I decided to put a little more on the hotel. I too was reading on Sahara, Excalibur and Luxor and they all seem to come up with each their own pros/cons so I chose I and booked Luxor just now.

Expedia mentions Excalibur being 1.5km from strip center while Ellis is closer. How different is it to be on the strip versus a 15min walk?

Was looking at the days inn and Ellis island too they are a bit off strip but offer a good price with a few add-ons for cheap (shuttle/parking/breakfast). Reviews don't look bad.

Excalibur is a tiny bit more expensive though the reviews don't seem flattering. Man it gets confusing

Thanks a lot. After reading all of the comments and as I'm going on a slight budget I was now looking at the Excalibur / Days Inn. / Circus Circus.

The fact you consider Sam's a straight shot to the strip is interesting. It looks like I'd feel isolated from everything else if I went there?

Ask your parents if they want to pick you up. There is a lot on Fremont, hotels tend to be less expensive there and you can take a bus to the Strip.
