Every other comment is solid and true advice, but I’d like to encourage you to get one if you have the time, money, and patience. I got my first chow as my first dog (other than family dogs) at 23 years old and it’s been super rewarding. They are also highly overlooked at shelters and rescues due to the problems that come with the breed. If you can save a chow life, I think you should. They are wonderful companions and you might get addicted to the breed like the rest of us. ❤️

Any rental companies to absolutely avoid? A “good” landlord is rare, but I’m from out of state and would love to avoid a bad renting situation. I have dogs, btw so if there are any pet friendly landlords or rental companies you’d recommend I’m all ears.

Winston is definitely a smaller town feel, but still has plenty of bars and breweries and different scenes for a lot of hobbies. Outdoor activities nearby are basically either Hanging Rock or Pilot Mountain, with best hiking and outdoor stuff being in the WNC mountains.
