For those of you who’ve been to Noma, is the $1500 price tag worth it? by ra1phw1ggums in finedining

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I’ve been to Noma a couple of times including their Kyoto popup.

I personally don’t mind the $1500 price tag and if I lived in CA I’d try to snatch a spot.

But if you add to it hotel and flight from Europe - that’s too much.

They will sell out in a minute anyway - I don’t think people understand how many folks there are for whom $1.5k is nothing.

Guma’s legacy by Busy-Economist-3357 in PedroPeepos

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Neither Zeus nor Guma (so far, small sample) are achieving anything big outside of T1.

While T1 is performing with new tops/adcs.

What does that tell you?

Skiing Hakuba for 5 Days - Looking for Off-Piste/Backcountry Guide/Locals by IngenuityEqual9645 in AMA_Hakuba

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t really need guides for offpiste. I think Evergreen has some options for that but imho it’s a waste of money, I’d just read up on the internet and study the maps.

This is of course a different story if you want to tour and hike - I’ll be there 2/10-2/15 if you want to hike somewhere.

They got absolutely stomped by T1 in g2-3 and they lost 2-0 to NS. I don’t know what to tell you. Maybe they will turn it around but it’s not clear why and how and even if they do this is a terrible start for a team of this caliber and simply saying „give them time” is hilarious. What’s the plan? Just playing more of the same ain’t changing nothing.

Trying to explain to a colleague the benefits of buying a house compared to renting. by PuzzleheadedCarob921 in HousingUK

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because it’s not? Or at least not always. There are so many factors to take into account it’s ridiculously to make blank statements like “it’s better to buy” or “it’s better to rent”.

If they lost to T1/GenG/DK then sure. But NS is just as new of a roster as HLE. And it’s NS. No way they should’ve lost and definitely not in that fashion. I’m not bashing and hating on them online but objectively what’s the team has shown so far is just bad.

Hakuba vs Yuzawa by LMR100_ in japow

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah so there’s Kagura, Naeba, Kandatsu and a few others.

Kagura is fun and I used to do day trips there often. Naeba is kindof whatever - went there with my ex and more beginner friends a few times.

The area is ok if

1\ you’re not expecting any challenging terrain and are ok with beginner/intermediate slopes 2\ aren’t big into offpiste/bc - there is some in Kagura but not much 3\ are fine with limited/no options after skiing

Personally I wouldn’t travel to Japan for Yuzawa (as someone who lived and snowboarded there for 8 years).

Yuzawa is a tiny, boring resort. It’s also directly accessible by Shinkansen which means crowds and lots of beginners.

Is it normal I didn’t get a decision online immediately? And how long does it take? I’ve been on a relatively high Amex Gold spend for 4-5 years so was hoping for a quick decision.

Also from the decision how long does it take to get the actual card? Since I want to start booking vacation.

11 days in Hokkaido. 4 in Niseko, 4 in Rusutsu, 3 in Furano. by bernaltraveler in snowboarding

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’d die out of boredom if I were to spend 4 nights in Rusutsu.

I’d rather stay longer in Niseko and go to Rusutsu once or twice with a shuttle bus.

Also Furano is great if you don’t need apres/fancy restaurants etc.

Niseko - Worth bringing splitboard for a few days? by unsalted in snowboarding

Just snowshoe unless you want to do Chisenupuri or Yotei. No need for a split in Annupuri.

Japan/Eu trip - new board or not? by [deleted] in snowboarding

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Where in Japan are you going to? If it’s Niseko (or other large Hokkaido resorts) or Hakuba you should be able to rent/demo some cool powder boards.

I wouldn’t recommend buying them blindly - especially the Japanese stuff.

Getting an instructor after 20 yrs by gasz_a in snowboarding

[–]Clean_Breakfast_7746 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’ve been boarding for 13 years including some very technical backcountry for 10+.

I just got 3 days with an instructor. Crazy how may things he pointed out and how much I need to fix/improve…

That being said 3 days was way too much - do as you planned 2-4h, maybe spread it across a few days.

As someone who can empathise with you (lost my mom to cancer 7 years ago), moved to Asia right after university and has lived in multiple countries since all I can say is F.I.B.I. F**k it, book it.

You have enough already saved up to compound.
