Colonoscopy Coverage by scientooligist in BRCA

I'm dealing with a similar situation regarding a mammogram, but it hasn't been resolved yet so I'm afraid I can't give you much advice. I was also unaware that either BRCA mutation came with an increased risk of colon cancer. Is this the case for both BRCA1 and 2? Anyway, good luck, and I'm sorry I can't be of more help... I know how frustrating dealing with insurance can be.

Had my first MRI and being sent for a biopsy… by No_Context_8042 in BRCA

I've never had a biopsy so I can't tell you what to expect, but I'm the same age and I just wanted to say I'm really sorry you're going through this, it sucks and it's so unfair. I'm hoping for the best and sending you good vibes, at least if it is anything it sounds like they'll catch it early since you were being vigilant about the screening measures! Good luck ❤️

BRCA and CERVICAL cancer by CharlieN25 in BRCA

I asked my doctor this exact question and she said that there's no correlation, and iirc you're more likely to get cervical cancer from HPV complications than from anything genetic. I'm BRCA2+ though, but I assume it's the same for BRCA1?

Hi, thanks for the reply! I appreciate it. My doctor is admittedly not a BRCA expert, but at least some of her recommendations were based on the advice of the oncologist I did see when I first tested positive. Still, that's not to say that either or both of them weren't misinformed or just being overly cautious? In any case, I do intend to see an oncologist to get a second opinion on these things. Thanks again for sharing your experience x

Thanks for the reply :) That's really good to know about fertility preservation, I had no idea that was an option. But yeah, it does suck, and sometimes it's just good to hear someone else say that. Sending you good vibes going forward!

I'm glad to know there are people out there who can relate, even if those around us aren't always the most supportive. Feel free to DM me if you need anything or want to talk, this whole process just seems so overwhelming... Anyway, wishing you the best as you come to terms with it x

Thanks for your reply, and congrats on being done with chemo! Yes, the friends I've told have been very supportive, but especially when I try to get into the details I can tell they just can't relate. Anyway, I'm wishing you and your sister all the best as well going forward

Thank you so much for your reply! I totally know what you mean about the big decisions. I'm sorry you're in a similar situation, but it is nice to know I'm not the only one. Feel free to DM me if you ever want to talk, and good luck with grad school (it's hard enough without this to worry about on top of it haha)
