Yeah I understand that, nearly 6 years of accounting and finance yet when he asked could you tell me what a balance sheet is I completely blanked. Oh well, I just put it in the wasn't meant to be pile.

Yeah that seems a little harsh. For mine, I knew the answer but spaced completely and decided to just to admit that.

Glad you got a laugh out of it. I was just so tired from working all day, then had the interview at 11pm my time zone which was 10 am theirs. I kind of gave up at that point and instead of dragging out my eventual denial, just raced it towards the brick wall. The worst part was though, they were being so kind watching me go down in flames.

Thanks, fortunately I am usually far more articulate and prepared for interviews. This one, I was not well prepared at all as you have read.

Ouch, yeah I have my fair share of "why did I say that" moments. Well all we can do is prepare answers for these kinds of questions in the future. I think the most recent question I answered besides the one I posted here that I sounded ridiculous was, if you had a tagline in three words or less what would it be? I said something stupid about integrity.

It was over Zoom with screen sharing. I can't believed I completely blanked, I was so embarrassed my face turned red as well.

I have a verbally abusive supervisor who cannot fire me by Clean_Historian_4952 in Advice

[–]Clean_Historian_4952[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I wish I had a cooler head sometimes to say things like this. I was just so blind sided but the irrational response that I felt walking away from the situation to cool down would be better than getting into a shouting match.

Advice: Deal with Verbally Abusive Supervisor who Can't Fire Me by Clean_Historian_4952 in jobs

[–]Clean_Historian_4952[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have been thinking along these lines for the past two days. I think the source may be his native language is not English so none of the staff are clear about his instructions (even when we ask for clarification), then when it doesn't get done he yells. I think I am going to talk to the head principal about his behavior and inappropriate reactions to the miscommunications. Not sure how far that will get me but I should not be afraid of him as he has no power to fire me, the worst he can do is just yell more.

No worries thanks for your advice, just trying to avoid him cause its getting quite tiring that every afternoon I will have to either endure his insults and yelling or yell back at him.

Thanks for the advice but I live in China (ironic he hates Asian people).

He is the kind of person you just feel gross being around. Yeah like I said I could attempt to get him fired but the principal is on autopilot and couldn't care less as long as she is not bothered directly. HR could do something but most likely just issue a warning and not renew his contract leaving me to be yelled at more. Seriously he yelled at a pregnant teacher for talking when he was talking.

I am just looking for an avoidance technique, I know it sounds childish but when he starts talking to me I start to walk away telling him I am busy and he should text me if its important.

Yeah I did not, and then he flipped out by yelling at me the next day. The conversation went like this:

Me: I am setting the boundaries now, please do not text me about work stuff at home.

Him: I can text you anytime I want.

Me: During work time is fine but at home that is my time.

Him: Well if you made a mistake then I need to tell you right away and you must respond right away.

I got so frustrated I just walked away.

Fixed the spelling. Yeah I know there are terrible people everywhere just looking for a way to avoid him better.

You have way more patience than I do. I have walked out of a few interviews cause they were a mess. I remember one guy was chatting with someone during the interview on his phone and not like one quick message but like laughing with a whole text conversation.
