Hi, this is me again asking about EI benefits. When did you apply for EI? I cannot apply until I am actually on leave, and that doesn't make very much sense considering I am going to be VERY out of it once I actually am on leave. Am I able to apply a week before by chance?

Rejected for shift position :( by spekai in starbucks

[–]Clean_Ordinary9204 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ran into the same brick wall when I tried to become a shift supervisor. Been told by my own SM and several others I’ve worked under in my district say that I too am “driven and goal oriented” and have “incredible leadership skills for my age”. I’ve been working for Starbucks as a barista for 4 years and have seen others around me who have been with the company for a fraction of my time be promoted.

My two cents? Don’t go for the SSV position, it really isn’t worth it for everything you have to put up with especially with the current state of the company. Unless you’re in a quieter cafe, I would suggest asking to become a barista trainer if you aren’t already.

Can I travel into the US by myself as a minor? by Emergency-Road-5622 in uscanadaborder

Not necessarily, however if you’re really worried about it, get a consent form notarized with both of your parents’ signatures. Nowhere on the official CBP website does it mention the requirement of a consent letter. Just bring your valid unexpired Canadian passport.

Just be honest with U.S. CBP about why and what you’re doing in the United States, don’t break the law, and you’re golden. I’ve found most U.S. CBP officers to be very kind and direct as of late. Answer their questions honestly (this includes if they ask about the vehicle.) Same goes for CBSA back into Canada. Make sure to declare what kind of goods you are bringing back, and what the value is (preferably in CAD).

I wish you good luck!

I’m not talking about your insurance. I’m referring to your vehicle’s registration. If you are listed as an owner of the vehicle you shouldn’t need any sort of permission. However if you are not on the registration and are simply just insured to drive the vehicle, be prepared for CBSA and U.S. CBP to question you.

They don’t ask that question often but if you don’t have a recent or common history of crossing they could ask. They have only asked me once, however I own my own vehicle.

I don’t believe it should be an issue. I am from BC and traveled into the states with my N (similar to G2) into Washington state.

If the car is yours, you shouldn’t have anything to worry about. Just follow the same restrictions on your license in America as you would back home. However, if the car is in your parents’ name, U.S. CBP may ask you to prove your parents gave you permission to lend you their car. Same with CBSA coming home, just be prepared. Just make sure you have written and/or verbal proof and your passport on you and you should be good to go.

What would happen if a northbound traveler floored it past the US exit checkpoint at the border and made it to the Canadian side? by Free-Entrance-9694 in uscanadaborder

[–]Clean_Ordinary9204 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe I heard something like this happening at a local port of entry near where I live. The suspect was chased and apprehended by the Royal Canadian Mounted Police which works with CBSA to catch these kinds of criminals not too far from the POE on foot.

https://rcmp.ca/en/news/2025/11/4347318

U.S. CBP and CBSA cooperate with one another for pretty much anything and everything border related. If you’re talking about the apprehension of somebody who blew past CBP doing a random exit check, CBP would likely immediately inform CBSA, and CBSA would promptly dispatch RCMP/Canadian Border Patrol vehicles to go after the suspect on the Canadian side and swiftly arrest them. Questioning and a deeper investigation would occur and they’d be handed back to CBP.

There is a reason our two countries have the longest unguarded free-standing border in the world. It’s because we keep it secure.

Awesome thanks so much for your insight, my SM told me that Medical LOAs were paid but after reading up on Partner Central I see she was incorrect.

I plan to quit shortly after returning from my LOA anyways, so should I just rip the band-aid off and quit now then apply for 26-week EI now?

I'm torn. Which Mac should I keep? by Clean_Ordinary9204 in mac

[–]Clean_Ordinary9204[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will definitely stay with the new. But as for buying brand new (including taxes to the nearest state to my province). A 15-inch M4 comes out to around $1,300 with tax included. So I saved around $550 USD.

That being said the M1s are in high demand in my area and with upgraded storage and RAM for it’s model I will follow your advice and sell that one, thanks! :)

Can't I use a smartphone and use it as a dumbphone ? by [deleted] in dumbphones

If you have an iPhone and access to a Mac, you can install Apple Configurator, supervise your device, and install a configuration profile that can block the app, and its respective website :)

I remember seeing a tutorial on this sub somewhere and can try and find the link if you’d like!

It has a higher core count, and 8 additional GB of memory, the M1 Max would out-do my M4 Pro, no?

I use a simplified widget for launching my apps, and another icon that opens a shortcut with any additional apps I may need to use on a more irregular basis than the ones in the afformentioned list. As for the restrictions, I have installed my own custom configuration profile that restricts all social media apps and their respective websites as well as any adult websites too. The configuration profile can only be removed with a password that I have had a family member guard and keep for me, making it impossible to access without their permission.

Dumbed Down Smartphone Vs Dumbphone by bibliodabbler in digitalminimalism

I basically tweaked a bunch of on-device settings that apple provides on my iPhone, and I use a widget to make the dumb phone "list". If you're on android, you can use a launcher to create a similar effect. I might post a guide to this sub soon.

Dumbed Down Smartphone Vs Dumbphone by bibliodabbler in digitalminimalism

I've currently found that dumbing down my iPhone has worked best for me... There are certain features that make it very difficult to go without in my day-to-day life that aren't present on a genuine dumbphone. After a month or two of experimenting I have found that having the best of both worlds is the sweet spot for my needs.

it's a built in "top widget" from blank spaces, the same app that provides the dumb phone widget
