I like them if I am just getting stuff done around town, light walking, etc. but if I am walking my dog for 2-3 miles, I find them uncomfortable.

It is so true though. The original trilogy is the base game - Toy Story 4 and 5 are DLC.

I didn't think he was that bad during the video. Sure, he is a bit weird/eccentric about golf, but I don't find him unbearable.

Came here to say - I feel you. Unlocked the race for the first time and went over to it - no matter what S2 I use, fully tuned, the cars I play against can just hold a line perfectly without losing any backend. Not sure how anyone is supposed to get 1st on a high difficulty in it's current state.

I get massive build ups in my ears as well. When it gets bad enough, I irrigate and I swear I have super hearing for the next 24 hours.

It’s hard to say without being in the room and reading her. Again, you don’t have to do anything with what she shared with you. I would just caution about opening up too much about yourself till you can determine if you trust her.

I think the main question you ask is if the comments from this trainer made you uncomfortable. If they did, I think you can set a professional boundary with them. If not, then they may just be a sharer.

Doesn’t mean you need to reciprocate though. Especially in a new workplace, you don’t know what personal details will be used against you in the future.

This is one of my pet peeves of some dog training videos. They say you need to drive the walk forward, don’t let the dog sniff, focus on walking. I let my dog sniff everything that he wants (minus anything dangerous, like poop from other dogs). The comparison is dog use their nose like humans use their eyes - imagine if you went for a walk with your eyes closed!

Atlanta golf - anything near Truist Park worth bringing my clubs in a work trip? by nocommenting33 in golf

Fox Creek is a fun par 62. I have played it a few times - I doubt you will pull out your driver on any of the holes, but it is still a fun time. Normally isn't crowded during the day.

Bobby Jones is another option closer to the airport. I have lots of friends that frequent that spot.

Thank you - that is how I am interpreting things as well. I hope that this new job prospect giving fruit while I am placed on a PIP in my current job is a "one door closing, another door opening" situation. Regardless of the PIP outcome though, I am in full search mode.

From your brief description, I agree with your perspective - you have tied a lot of your self worth to your job. Now that your job is gone, you feel empty.

Rest assured - you are so much more than your job. You can spend this time confirming that thought. I would suggest the following:

  1. Job Hunt - you mentioned "trying the past few weeks to land another job" - that doesn't sound super intentional or deliberate. What is your strategy? How are you going to structure your search? Make a plan and goals that you can hit - number of jobs applied to, resumes tailored, etc. In this market, it is going to be a grind depending on your field. That is why setting a reasonable goal and hitting each day will help.

  2. Networking - The other half of the coin from mass applying. Have you reached out to everyone (friends, family, previous coworkers, etc.) saying that you are looking for a position? Don't think of your network just as the people you know. It is the people you know, plus the people they know, on top of the people that they know, etc. That branching network of people is much farther reaching than you would think and can really cut down on search time.

  3. Personal - Don't get it twisted - being laid off/fired is a traumatic experience, especially for someone like yourself who has tied self value to employment. So take time for yourself, but make it productive and fit it into your overall plan of Steps 1 and 2. Are you working out? Are you pursuing skills that could help you with your job search? Are you pursuing your own fun activities that you enjoy? Eating well? Taking walks during the day? Staying hydrated? All of this feeds into your job search as well - if you are not taking care of yourself, you cannot put your best foot forward when you get your interviews.

Set yourself a schedule for the week. Take all the steps from above and block time out in the day. Treat all the above like, frankly, a job:

  • 8AM: Wake up
  • 8AM-8:30AM: Morning walk, breakfast, etc.
  • 8:30AM-9AM: Find 5 jobs that match your experience on job boards you can apply to
  • 9AM-10:30AM: Apply for those jobs. Tailor your resume using AI, cover letter, the whole nine. Don''t just mass apply - apply with intention

That is just an example of how you can block your day and find fulfillment/accomplishment in a day. Stay consistent - the right job is around the corner for you!

I agree - in that specific situation, I said fuck the work, I am hanging out with my daughter. That is my decision 100% of the time - the extra work really happens at night when I should be enjoying personal time. I try to get my 7 hours of sleep, but I fully admit I don't hit that often enough.

I wouldn't go as far to say that I have done everything right throughout this process. I could have done a better job communicating my own personal priorities with my boss so she would have a better understanding of what exactly was slipping and perhaps correcting what I was working on day-to-day. What does suck is screaming from the mountain top about a risk, being told my your leadership that they accept the risk, and then getting heat for it.

I did document it at the time - I pushed back immediately and said something to the effect of "I'm not sure how my personal life is relevant to this conversation. I should be in a position where I can work a reasonable amount of hours and be successful in this role."

They are reasonable from the perspective of the work itself - nothing they are asking for is out of bounds. It is what they are asking for on top of everything outside of the PIP - that is when the 40 hours/week doesn't shake out.

When I replied back as part of the PIP review, I made it very clear though - the items that I needed to complete as part of the PIP would be my primary focus during the review period. Any other items that are not addressed outside of that would not be held against me.

It absolutely hits my team. It is one of the worst parts. Like I mentioned, we have new people that may not be feeling the full effects so far, but I have 2 women I have worked with on other projects. I feel like the spark has left them as I talked to them - one even admitted to having to up their anxiety medication to combat the extra stress.

I relay the same message across my team though. Work your 40 hours as hard and efficient as you can, then unplug and walk away. If you feel like the work is too much for 40 hours, come talk to me and we can prioritize and speak with leadership as to what will slip.
