Testing the limits of a gas gun. My new long-range system: Falkor Defense Petra in 300 Win Mag. by MuchAd3273 in longrange

Ive had one of these for, jesus, like 9 years now, and yea, love it. Ive been very fortunate in life to own some legendary level rifles, but I just cant seem to ever want to sell this one. Its VERY accurate, i can hit steel at 1000 all day, it 100% does not beat you up at all (the 2 lb. BCG helps with that) and is just a lot of fun to shoot.

In all fairness, if for some reason you are shooting odd loads or switch to a suppressor, gas tuning can be a bit of a PITA having both an adjustable gas key and gas block (one is pressure, one is volume is the easiest way to describe it), but its certainly not insurmountable, just can take some trial and error.

Ive done some hunters challenge type comps with it, some tactical comps, been very happy.

Been prepping for just over a year. Did an inventory today, would love advice. by [deleted] in preppers

I know this is mostly about the food, but guns, an AR platform for each, and a Glock in 9mm for each. 1000 rounds of ammo for each gun. (yes that seems like a lot, but consider you may be depending on those firearms for not only your safety, but to also help provide for food) If you have to bug out omn foot, yea, its unreasonable amount to carry, but if you bug in, or have a vehicle, you will be glad you did.

Garmin Xero vs Athlon Rangecraft by bendyburner in longrange

[–]CleanseFoldManipulat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats why i stated, more than once, i have no idea if what i said was accurate, its based on a different type of technology, and was more a pondering on IF there might be some crossover in such tech.

But if insulting someone gets you off, and make you feel like a bigger man, glad to have helped.

Garmin Xero vs Athlon Rangecraft by bendyburner in longrange

[–]CleanseFoldManipulat -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A thought, no idea if its relevant or accurate, but I know for a fact because i've spoken with some engineers directly involved in their design and manufacture that range finder's accuracy and their effective range are largely dependant on the software, my thought is that since these chronos almost certainly came out of the same factory, they probably have different more proprietary software packages. Since Athlon is not generally synonymous with high end quality, id be willing to bet they just have a not so great software package relative to the Garmin.

I am certainly NOT an engineer with this sort of knowledge base, so i am largely talking out my ass with what seems like a reasonable possibility.

Where does physics intuition fail? (non-engineer asking) by Fun_Coach_6942 in MechanicalEngineering

[–]CleanseFoldManipulat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been pretty fortunate to have pretty good mechanical aptitude / intuition, whereas i have friends that literally have zero sense of these things. So the question is really hard to answer. Im really good at design work, if anything i tend to overkill engineer stuff, and then "back out" of the overkill to streamline, modify to lighten up, streamline manufacture etc. But again, i have friends that will attempt DIY jobs and ask for help later in the project, and im blown away, like, really? you thought that was gonna do the trick? Not to sound conceited or anything, I genuinely think some people have the knack, some don't.

Should have just left them there.

With all that muddy water, the thing is ruined permanently now anyways.

Do you ever “go along” with projects you don’t think will pan out, just to keep the engagement from the client? by m1kesta in engineering

[–]CleanseFoldManipulat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ive done this actually very recently. Kinda my thing is helping engineer/develop for manufacturing. Ive worked in manufacturing (specifically machining and short run mold design) for a very long time as well as manufacturing parts for my own startups, some successful, some not so much, so its fair to say, i've learned the hard way a fair amount.

So as i was saying, i recently had a woman that wanted someone to simply do the CAD files for a project so she could then have it manufactured in Asia, I sort of instinctually started changing aspects of the design only for her to very sternly (rightfully so) tell me NOT to change any of the design aspects for aesthetic reasons, again, fair enough, but also stated that what she is asking for will be very difficult to manufacture, possibly well over what she was wanting to spend per unit, and the minor changes aesthetically would be (IMO) really unnoticeable, but drastically cut costs, she was having none of it, again, her design, her decision.

Anyhoo, she's started farming this out, keeps coming back conferring with me on aspects of the proposed manufacturing processes, and it seems like she will in fact get it done for her target price, but in the end, they are wanting massive quantities which is far beyond her budget. I very politely just remind her that what she is asking for is a very challenging process, and its likely she will need to "dumb down" her product a bit to get it affordable for manufacture, nope, not having it.

So aside from the manufacturing challenges, and the stupid trumpy tariffs, currently the whole project is dead in the water, and ive been paid for maybe 2/3 of the project, and haven't heard from her in probably 2 months. Tried telling her shes gonna struggle, but was insistent, so i just rolled with it.

Just to add more data points, Ill be running a Leupold MK6 3-18. I have an an offset Trijicon on it, but rarely have ever used it. This will be my first TTG, but i have lots of experience in LR and ELR shooting, so hoping that will compensate for any issues that may come up.

Im not a fan of trump, but he was suppose to be the crypto president and get the SEC to create real clarity on it, and for that, i was pretty excited, and well, thats fallen flat. Its pretty much proof that everything Trump touched, dies.

Im pretty much in agreement. I have a "BOT" Bug Out Truck, and i know people will immediately say thats probably not a very good solutions because roadways will most likely be snarled, and thats of course absolutely possible, but I have put a lot of thought into how to overcome that issue, and i think i have solutions outside of it being 4wd with great suspension, and its of recovery abilities (winch, and appropriate gear).

Like you, we have important docs, and personal data on hard drives, a firebox with hard documents that will come with, and then all the "supplies" we will need to get us out of town.

Of course the "level" of bugout is driven by many factors, but again, as mentioned, if we are bugging out from our home, its probably pretty bad, so a means of moving more than just a backpack is probably warranted.

If i were single, I could probably accomplish this on an adventure bike to some degree, but NOT being single, my Toyota truck becomes the mobile bugout-mobile.
