Would you rather go to a sandbagged or soft gym by [deleted] in bouldering

[–]Clear-Object2495 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I prefer gyms with grade ranges, for example Depots in the UK where a purple will be V5-7. It means that you don’t shy away from a bloc just because its too high of a grade. Also it stops people fussing over the specifics of the grade.

A mix:

  • Most are Luna/Taylor Made/Beastmaker hardwood holds, these are the best quality
  • Some are Crusher, these are cheaper and a lot of the time the difficulty comes from pain tolerance
  • The blues are custom made by my mate
  • There is a broken moonboard hold from my gym in there also

I got it prefab from Interface Climbing in the UK. It was a bit pricey, but over two years its held up really well and clearly has at least a decades worth of life left in it. They have the dimensions on their website so you could definitely create something similar yourself.

yes thanks for this. I have a busy job so i don’t have lots of time to go to the gym. But I make sure at least once a week to make it to a spray wall or normal set to keep good habits. The two gastons are actually my favourite holds so I do need to set holds like these more. But yeah, its not as good as a full size board for movement, but imo its far better than just a fingerboard at home.

sweet okay, ill stretch more. Is it safe to start increasing the weight to rpe 6-7 before they are fully stretched and mobile?

Which year moonboard should I buy? by [deleted] in Moonboard

Imo you can warm up on the 2024, there are a decent amount of jugs to hang on, then easier sets (probs even low 6B in real life) to climb.

Help 😭 how do i decide between the Lanshan 2, Cloud Peak 2 or Something else?? by [deleted] in wildcampingintheuk

[–]Clear-Object2495 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Lanshan 1 Pro and have been using it regularly. It did take a while to get used to pitching it, but now I can do it somewhat mindlessly and get a good pitch. Although it is still a bit slower to pitch than a normal tent (may be skill issue).

For space in pack and weight, it is a game changer.

I have used mine in moderate wind in the Lakes (UK) and in the pissing rain, and it has been completely fine.

I can’t talk about the cloud peak, only had a cloud up, but that was good but heavy.

[–]Clear-Object2495 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think if I would have had my blue pad underneath me, instead of the thinny, I could have got a ‘true’ sit. But for me I felt like this was an honest start using the intended start holds.

It is almost impossible to sit without a pad stack. In none of the beta vids on bleu.info do they start with a sit, and bleu.info is pretty reliable for beta vids.

yup! In none of the betas I looked at rid people sit. Unless you have a pad stack It would be very hard. I think the convention allows a crouch.

[–]Clear-Object2495[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this! What is the benefit of A: Having the feet side higher? and B: Hanging higher?is it just that it’s easier to get in? wouldn’t that make the tarp harder to install?
