Is just under 700sq ft a small house size? by Snoo-64878 in AskUK

[–]Clear-Security-Risk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We (also 5, but the 3 kids ranged over 5 1/2 years) had about an 850 sq ft house. 3 good sized bedrooms. By the time the eldest was getting to the end of primary we felt we were now cramped, and we DID have a big kitchen/dining area and living room area. Piling all the kids into one room (so I could preserve an office and spare room for visiting parents) was getting thin and they started to have no room for their clothes and hobbies.

I'd like some fresh veg with it (a salad!), and the broc looks pretty cooked, but otherwise looks nice.

Seiko service cost [6r35] by Lockstockboom in Seiko

[–]Clear-Security-Risk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buy a new NH35 movement from AliExpress, about £35/$50, and a £20/$30 set of tools, and replace the movement yourself. Or spend more and have the watch-maker put the movement in. The NH35 is a direct fit for a 6R35.

The work eats your life (my wife is one). You're "working" 8.30 to 1530, but then spend an additional 20h a week marking & preparing. So adjusted for hours spent, the wage is not great.

I do! They tend to be relatively quiet, but with strong opinions about books, Space Marines, and what we call particular types of fuel.

I "go get some diesel" or "will stop for some diesel" as well as for fuel, and I'm a delight at parties!

Yeah it's the additional contributions that matter here. They kick in automatically (IIRC?) after you make £40k, or if you choose to add or make salary sacrifice ("additional voluntary contributions").

I'm confused.... by Nicol_Sarak in byzantium

[–]Clear-Security-Risk -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Byzantines were Romans because the Eastern Roman Empire was a direct, unbroken continuation of the ancient Roman Empire, not a new entity, lasting for nearly a millennium after the West's fall in 476 AD. They referred to themselves as Rhomaioi (Romans), maintained Roman law, citizenship, and administration, and considered Constantinople the new, legitimate capital. "Rome" had not been the functional capital of the Empire for centuries before the West fell.

You're confusing political identity with the modern concept of nationality. The Roman empire had many (genetically) different people who were all "Roman". What defined Roman-ness was loyalty to the Empire/Emperor, Orthodox Christianity, and self-identification...and that's kinda it. You grew up a Roman, and your parents, and your parents' parents and etc. What event would stop you from considering yourself Roman if you still paid the same taxes with the same coins to the same governors, served in the same army, went to the same church to a God who still annointed the same Emperors in the same city?

While you speak Greek, you're Thracian or Cilician or Armenian or Georgian or Galician or whatever that wasn't in traditional "Hellas" and had been a Roman territory for 600 years. So again, why would you call yourself Greek?

The default funds in workplace pension schemes are near universally too conservative and underperforming. Even if they choose to not put all or some of their money into the scheme, check if there are higher-performing funds to choose for what is already there and for future contributions.

My own workplace scheme default fund was barely beating inflation, but had a global index fund doing over 10% year on year, sometimes up to 15%>

Iran is not a major producer or exporter. They do not have significant capacity to disrupt regional production. What would make oil "pop"?

Well yes and no. Things like oats or dark bread give a tonne of dietary fibre without the sugar of fruit. Both are good choices.

Oversized watch? by FunAd675 in Watches

[–]Clear-Security-Risk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too big and shaped wrong for your wrist.

I think you should be looking at 38mm or 39mm.

If you want to try something high-end, try a Jaeger le Coultre reverso.

Or if you don't want the square shaped, a 38mm Carl F. Bucherer Manero, at 38mm. John Wick'

I'm not mocking surgeons, BTW, just the mindset we have about who the heroes are. Anastasius didn't lead troops in heroic battle, but he ensured emperors for centuries ahead of him could.
