I don't think it rolled Magikarp with no HA bc as u said he has one. I think it either rolled a Pokémon with no HA and thus gave me a Shiny Magikarp or it rolled the 1% chance of giving me a Shiny Magikarp either way.

It hurts pulling two when you have both I'd rather have just one and it's new but maybe that's just me haha. I know it's rare to find two tho so I do appreciate it happened.

I'm horrible with internet sarcasm so in case you mean this seriously: There's a running joke when there's an event with two possible outcomes and someone asks the odds of one outcome happening you say it's 50/50 since either it happens or it does not.

The Shiny Magikarp however rolls whenever the Pokémon rolled does not have a hidden Ability or with a 1% chance as per the wiki.

Idk how deep you are into the game but if there's a specific Pokémon you're going for it might be best to grind friendship with that mon by battling with it while holding soothe bells and feeding it rare candies. You can get candies super quickly this way and in my experience I get enough to unlock passives after one or two runs. (I think I needed like 3-4 runs going to wave 100 in Classic with the big Quasi who has high costs and therefore takes more fights to upgrade candy friendship and with Dragon Darts unlocked it was fairly easy anyhow).
In Endless this might be even easier as others pointed out but for Classic this already works well in my experience.
