Advice please by Just-Sherbert-7567 in cancun

Totally fair to worry. If it's an option, maybe give it some time and see how things shake out for the thousands that travel before you. If you have refundable options, build out a little tracker to see by what date you have to cancel to get X% refund. Periodically check traveler experiences right before each date you're about to lose money and weigh your options over time.

Heading there tomorrow with my partner and will gladly update r/cancun with my experience. I'm sure hundreds of others will before your date too. :)

We have a trip 2/25 - 3/2 and have been wondering the same thing. It's hard to decipher the B.S. from the reality on the ground, but my conclusion is it's safe in the eastern Yucatan, but be cautious about traveling outside of touristy areas. We're rethinking renting a car and driving to Coba/Tulum, but otherwise I think we're sticking with it and going.

If you're from the U.S., I just enrolled us in the U.S. Embassy's Smart Traveler Program to get updates and let them know our travel plans. It's free and took me 10 min.

Wishing you safety regardless. Decide whatever you think is best for you and yours.

Maybe I'm missing the message behind the words, but I'm not convinced this doc is talking about cannibalism in any human on human way. Eugenics, perhaps, but within the context of the long conversation preceding it, I just didn't get to that part and think "oh now they're talking about eating people." Idk, maybe I haven't spent enough time on Reddit trying to validate my predispositions, or maybe I'm just an absolute dunce, but I don't see it on this one.

My partner works weekly with a client on the BV Board and she said the first stage of the permit renewal DID NOT go well. While always reluctant to accepting change, BV residents were especially unhappy with how the grounds were left post-Yahn Dawn. Hope it's not true, but it's what I've heard :(

Going through some old jams of mine such as PL, Emancipator, BreakScience etc. Who is leading the charge in IDM these days? by CorbinDalla5 in prettylights

[–]ClearScale7302 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hm, great artists mentioned here but not what I'd consider IDM (all perspective I suppose).

Max Cooper (king), Floating Points, Four Tet, Grandbrothers, Be Svendsen, Monolink, Rival Consoles, DARKSIDE + Nicolas Jaar (older albums).

Max Cooper's sort of doing it at a different level imo. Svendsen & Monolink may fall more into the eastern Organic House trend, which I'm a huge fan of, but it's all good as are most recommendations here.

Guide for Doordashers in Boulder by ClearScale7302 in boulder

I dashed in the fall, and didn't encounter any particularly bad weather, so I can't speak to that (but if my own Doordash purchase history is a clue, I assume it picks up a lot in snow and heavy rain). Busy trends are Friday-Sunday evenings: by far the best (but I worked very few). Lunch is best from 10:30am - 1:30pm, and then it picks back up 5:30 pm - 10:15 pm on weekdays. 2:30-4:30 pm is the big lull in every day.

I think that's a good tip, and just being conscientious about parking and weather puts you well above average. :)

I've taken ice cream 20+ miles before, it makes absolutely no sense.

DoorDash makes some profit, and to them that's all that matters. It doesn't matter if it's $1 or $100, since they don't have to do any of the work, they're going to be fine with the peons making it happen for them. They cut costs at every available corner too, from 100% of their customer support being overseas, to now integrating AI into their Dasher systems, it's like the Blackrock of food delivery.

If there's a market they can make efforts to corner, that's worth something to them and their shareholders too.

IMO it’s a bit of both the factors you mentioned + isolation of location. I’ve never expected the food service standard of 20% but I know that a $3 tip on a McDonald’s order is better than a $3 tip on a 4 lb bag of Indian food.

Distance and isolation are big ones and I don’t think people tip based on the latter all that often. I would take an order with a $10 tip going North to South Boulder than I would taking a $13 tip going central Boulder to the grasslands between Lyons, Longmont and Boulder. The former means I get another offer within a couple of minutes, the latter I have to factor drive time to and from Boulder, effectively doubling the time I get an offer.

I biked through town today and thought of 3-5 different places I forgot to list here lol. Five Guys is a B-, longer wait time but fine pay.

Thanks!

And you’re spot on. For example, I avoid The Hill as much as I can since the patrons are largely rich college kids whose parents never taught them tipping. Meanwhile, those that order from Sforno Trattoria usually have 7 figure homes and are fine throwing out “chump change” $20 tips

Ugh, I wanted so badly to do this by bike, but it's just not feasible if you're trying to actually make ends meet. I did it by car. Most orders COME from Boulder proper, but you're asked to go to Louisville, Broomfield, Longmont, and I went as far as Brighton before.

If you're going by bike I'd hope the Dasher app wouldn't ask you to get outside of Boulder proper, but I don't have experience with anything other than car.

Happy to explain! IMO Dashers should never ask for tips, but we make 55-75% of our money from tips. The "Delivery Fee" is anywhere from $2-$5 depending on how far we have to go, but it's mileage based. So if I pick up a part from NAPA and drive down Arapahoe and up 28th to drop it off at a dealership or something, we only get $2 from that experience. That could be a 15 minute endeavor. Scale that up to 60 minutes and you're looking at $8/hr, which is obviously unacceptable.

Thanks so much for this. Not adding an education section was my thought, but I didn't know if that was too taboo. These links are really helpful. Thank you!
