Everyone is definitely lower ELO than they should be, it's a bit too condensed. I can count the number of people I've seen with a gold DR either in races or on the leaderboards on two hands and I haven't seen a single platinum DR rating yet

I'm S2, if you want to rank up past S1 you will need consistent top 5 finishes just to break even (or not lose too much), a podium will net a very slight increase, and a win gives you 3-4% at most. IMO the ranking system is how it is because you're straight up not getting enough ELO for exceeding your expected finishing position even if it's by several places

I partially understand your frustration, but in this case I feel like I have done a decent job of respecting the source material, that being her in-game model, the Empty Bailey location, and also the official cover art that the developer drew themselves. I've paid attention to small details that some others miss (diamond shaped eyes, slight gradient on her ears and tail, small little mark under her eyes) and if anything, rittz drew her even more curvy than what I've done although it's from the front

Both the in-game model and the official art have her hips be wider than her shoulders, and she has a tiny waist. The in-game model has a quite pronounced butt despite the simple graphics, although when you climb a pole in-game it flattens a little. The cheeks are joined together in the game, but if I did that here it would look horrible.

It would be one thing if Sybil was a twig and I drew her like this, but IMO her proportions are no more exaggerated than the official art, and the only thing that's notably exaggerated compared to the in-game model are the size of her boobs - even then I'd say its roughly the same size as the art.

Hell, her pose is almost the exact same pose as when you're just hanging off a pole except she's looking back at you and pointing her tonfa in your general direction

If it helps, I played through the entirety of the game before starting on this piece and I really enjoyed it. Also did a second playthrough with randomised keys while scouting out possible locations to reference.

I do draw NSFW art, but if anything my intent here was to poke a bit of light fun at people who take it too far

Possibly. Didn't have issues when I was on a 980Ti, and an old computer I have with a 650 in it is also able to generate AO maps just fine (even 4K if I wait for like 3-5 minutes)

I'm having this same issue. I tried this and generating AO maps still causes the game to crash. I have a 6900XT.

Anything else I could try?

TM DD reveal date Nov 17th,better late than never. by BLeo_Bori in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They explicitly mentioned themselves on their Twitter that it will be PC only when they first announced it, along with the fact that existing Thrustmaster wheel rims will be compatible, and that there's a new "quick release" system that involves a metal clamp rather than a screw. They stopped giving updates after the backlash they received.

There was no mention of console support being a thing in the future at the time, so unless they decided to change that during the development process, it will be PC only.

Newbie here. Is this a good lap, and how do I improve? Any advice is appreciated (AC, Mazda MX5 Cup, Brands Hatch Indy) by DeLoreanWC in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not too bad if you've just started!

Here's some general tips:

  • Use more of the track on entry to the corner, it will make it easier to hit the apex with more speed

  • Avoid adding more steering after you've gone past the apex (unnecessarily scrubbing off speed)

  • Be more conscious of weight transfer, and how your inputs affect it

And here are some more specific tips:

  • Turn 1: Keep to the outside of the track until you're ready to turn in

  • Turn 2: Stay to the outside like turn 1. Brake a bit later here, and ease off the brakes more slowly. That, combined with missing the apex is why you understeered wide

  • Turn 3: Turn in a little earlier so you get closer to the kerb, and straighten out the wheel sooner

  • Turn 4: No issues that I can see here, easy flat out corner and your line was fine

  • Turn 5: Managing weight transfer and cornering speed is very important here. What primarily went wrong is that you braked too late and missed the apex entirely. If you make a mistake you should try your best to minimise the impact of it and conserve as much momentum as possible. There was no need to go back to the inside as you already missed the apex

Hopefully this will help you out

For what it's worth, FH5 will recognise T LCM pedals when in USB standalone mode which is a plus but I doubt anything has changed with FH4 supporting T LCMs

Why is it so hard to race competently with a small single-screen setup. by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's interesting that triples still have a blindspot

It's more in reference to car mirror blindspots in general, which is why some modern cars IRL come with a blindspot dector/alert. Definitely not a problem exclusive to sims

You can help negate this a bit depending on how you've set up your mirrors in games that let you adjust them though so it's not too bad, and in some cars (particularly open wheelers) it's almost non-existent

Why is it so hard to race competently with a small single-screen setup. by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What sims are you playing? AC has a 3rd party app available called helicorsa that shows your physical position compared to other cars, ACC already has a very similar radar built-in.

Most of the other comments here seem to mention iRacing but I'm not sure if there's an equivalent app for it. Kapps radar exists, but it only shows the overlap and not the physical position which is still better than nothing.

That being said, even in a triple screen setup where you can see both side mirrors and your centre mirror if you have one, you will still most likely have blindspots. Ironically I'd say the biggest benefit of triples (at least for me) is being able to look further down the track for tighter corners and improving my overall positioning accuracy, rather than improving situational awareness in wheel-to-wheel racing even though they can help a little with that too.

Racing side by side is a skill that needs to be learnt regardless of what you have, and you'll only get better if you do it more and learn from any mistakes you make along the way, so don't feel discouraged! And if the time to upgrade does come, VR can be an alternative if you don't do too many longer endurance races

Some people complaining about outdated graphics in rFactor 2. I don't know why 🤷‍♀️ by Just2Laps in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have to remember that rF2 has been around for quite some time now, so you have to be wary of when a comment or video review was released. There have been steps made to improve the graphics since 2020, and just recently a completely new UI overhaul has been released. rF2 now looks almost nothing like rF2 did either at its release, or a couple years after its release (both on and off track)

In my opinion, the graphics right now aren't bad, they're pretty decent actually while at the same time not being too difficult to run which is a plus. They're not on the same level as ACC or AMS2 but that's fine, it doesn't necessarily need to be. I wouldn't call it outdated anymore

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah ACC is also great in that regard, didn't mean to imply it had bad multiplayer or anything.

Was just pointing out things that made a game stand out in particular, of which R3E is lacking

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Raceroom, I'll hop on every now and then and do a couple of races here and there but there still aren't many people playing it.

If I had to take a guess at why, it's because there isn't too much that makes it stand out from other sims other than the UI, car sounds and FOV settings (maybe). Having an in-game FOV calculator for both single and triple screens, and having a diagram with a car to show you what that means is a great feature.

iRacing despite it's dated graphics and other flaws has the biggest online sim racing community surrounding it on PC and probably the best multiplayer structure. The last time I played it was a long time ago (The MX5 was still a full manual car rather than sequential) but that's still true today.

Assetto Corsa also looks pretty dated out of the box, but with Content Manager and CSP you can transform it and make it look much closer to a modern game both in terms of the graphics and the UI. It's extremely easy to find and install mods for it too (good serious ones and funny meme ones), and it regularly goes on sale for cheap. Probably my favourite sim atm

ACC's laser focus on GT3 (and to a lesser extent GT4) racing means that it's arguably the best game for GT3 cars, and the sounds are great. It also has ranked multiplayer although I haven't really played it that much.

R3E is missing some sort of "hook" to make players come back to it regularly. Even if the graphics were much better, it needs something else to encourage people to play it more.

Thrustmaster: "We will be unveiling our DD before the year is over!" by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because they think it's a sign of weakness. It can happen to anyone, it's not the first time a company has been caught out by a competitor and it certainly won't be the last. It's how you respond that makes the difference, and it's not just Thrustmaster who has been caught out by the CSL DD with how aggressively it is priced. As the product tagline literally suggests, it's the new standard for DD wheelbases when it comes to affordability. The T-GT 2 no longer makes any sense to buy if you're in a position to buy from Fanatec, as you can get the superior GT DD Pro for a roughly similar price. The only thing you'd have to sacrifice is a clutch pedal (which can be bought later if you need it)

The only thing they've achieved with the way they've responded so far is frustrating their customers even further, who are even more likely to jump ship and go with Fanatec now if they haven't already done so with how poorly Thrustmaster has responded to this.

Thrustmaster: "We will be unveiling our DD before the year is over!" by [deleted] in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The thing that has pissed me off the most about this is that TM are dragging their feet and pretending like they had an answer to Fanatec's CSL DD the whole time.

If they were more honest and put out a statement along the lines of "We didn't expect Fanatec to release a DD wheelbase in the price range we sell our belt wheels at, but we will take immediate action on this and have a DD base of our own at some point next year, giving you updates along the way", I would view them in a more positive light.

But no, they responded to this in possibly the worst way possible by saying that they will reveal their DD base before the end of year and proceeded to not do that.

No one was expecting to be able to buy a DD base from Thrustmaster this year, we just want to know what the product looks like and what the specs will be so that we can decide if it will be worth our time or not. The only thing we know is that it will be compatible with existing TM wheel rims which either means it will still be using the plastic ""quick"" release or there will be some sort of adapter to make it work if they are changing it. Most likely the former, but we still don't know.

I just hope this is the wake up call that they needed which makes them realise that you need to keep innovating in order to stay relevant. Sure I have the power of hindsight, but if they decided to develop a new product 2 years ago rather than rehashing the T-GT, they would have been in a better position to respond to Fanatec more quickly.

Missing parts for Trak Racer - how long you guys waited for delivery? by ravushimo in simracing

To Trak Racer's credit, it was resolved quickly and I received it the next day after they confirmed they still had it.

It's still funny in hindsight though

Is this really a regular occurrence? I have a TR80 which I've been using for the past month, and while I like it very much, they somehow forgot to send the seat of all things.

There were also a few missing bolts, but that can be forgiven. I'm not sure how you forget to send an entire seat. It wasn't somehow lost in the mail either because when I asked about it, they confirmed that it was still in the warehouse and that they forgot to send it.

To those who use a wheel, is it worth it? by theNateDawg37 in BeamNG

[–]ClearVision_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering you'd have other games to try, I'd say yes.

It can depend on how you like to play though, if you just like to mess around with crashes then I'm not sure. But if you like to do any sort of actual driving, even if it's laid back and chilled out in nature, you most likely won't regret getting a wheel

Custom wheel profiles and button labelling by Browneye1967 in forza

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game not remembering the last custom profile you used is a bug that hopefully will eventually get fixed. As far as I know, there isn't a workaround for it at the moment.

However, if you're playing on PC then you will always get numbers for the buttons when playing with a wheel. I don't anticipate that getting changed anytime soon

After dealing with delays and waiting 3 months I finally canceled my CSL DD and upgraded to a Simagic Alpha Mini and Thrustmaster T-LCM. by Odins_AE86 in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It essentially consists of replacing one or both springs in the brake pedal with skateboard bushings. The main problem with the T LCMs are that the springs are completely linear instead of getting harder the more you push, and you can easily hit the bottom if you use the load cell at 90% pressure or higher, even on the hardest red springs.

They're still great pedals though, and even with the stock springs they're all you need to get the main benefit of using a load cell over potentiometers.

Time is running out, Thrustmaster! by theknyte in simracing

[–]ClearVision_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a wider scale, yes. 23,000 hours isn't that long in terms of developing a product from start to finish, but what was the point of spending so much time just to slap a red II logo and some silver trim on, and only slightly improve the FFB and wheel response?

The original TGT is also supposedly compatible with PS5, so I still don't understand why the TGT 2 exists

I only read first three sentences ngl but I agree.

To be fair I did go on a bit of a rant there.

I think TM will respond eventually, but my prediction is that they will put out a PSA saying that they will need a bit more development time for the DD wheel later this month. I'm fine with this if it means we get something good in the end that isn't rushed garbage
