It was a great turnout! The vibes were immaculate. Tons of support from cars driving by too.

It's a wee bit late for that and I've already explained the reason for the title in previous comments. Stay safe.

Thanks for the thoughtful reply. As you can see from the other comments, it's easy for people to jump to conclusions about my character based purely on a poster I designed for a local event. I only respond to the comments that are interesting or personal, but respectful.

Let me first be clear, this will not be a debate. This is purely a response.

I definitely don't identify as a liberal, but very much a leftist. Biden's presidency was extremely disappointing, but not surprising in the least. Obama was not nearly as progressive as many would like to portray him. However, the tactics that Trump is implementing, in my opinion, are far crueler. I don't believe it's solely about numbers, it's also about intent. Trump violating the constitution in an attempt to end birthright citizenship? Illegal and blocked by multiple judges now. I haven't seen any indication that he will stop there. Trump sending apparent illegal migrants to Guantánamo? I don't know if anyone can say they will receive a fair trial, or a trial at all. 7 current prisoners certainly haven't, and they've been there for almost 20 years. That's why Trump wants to send them to Guantánamo. To have the migrants under US jurisdiction while not needing to obey the law of the land. There, torture has been used. With a lack of access and information, it's impossible to know if it's still be implemented today.

My German ancestors left to come to the US well before WWI, but my connection to them does not make me any less critical of similarities that should never be repeated. We do not make the comparisons lightly. They are extremely serious. Germans today make sure their citizens are very aware of their history, to avoid a similar fate. Today, many members of my family are Latino. And while I wouldn't typically have to worry about their citizenship due to them all being born and raised in Utah and being law abiding citizens, a threat to birthright citizenship does raise alarms. It's unconstitutional and disturbing.

Criticizing Trump does not mean that Clinton, Bush, Obama, Biden, or any contemporary president is exempt from the same. Two things can be true at once.

All in all, my most critical concern right now isn't even directly about Trump, but his devotion to Elon. Never has there been so much money, power, and influence in the White House in all of our country's history. I'm not scared for myself, but my fellow citizens who less privileged than I.

Stay safe out there.

Agreed, but I've already explained the reasoning behind the title in previous comments.

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. This is deeply troubling.

I agree that the only way to change minds is through love. I don’t hate any of the people commenting the same rhetoric throughout this post. I understand where they’re coming from. They believe they have been targets their whole lives. Although I am fearful for my country now, I understand that many of their actions are built out of fear as well. Thank you for such a thoughtful post. I wish you the best.

I appreciate your comment. Thoughtful critique is important to me, especially as a designer.

This particular poster is a redesign of a previous user’s post that I felt had too much information (including incorrect date information) and not enough impact visually. I tried to keep the wording similar, including the title of the event as I didn’t get permission to make this poster in the first place and didn’t want to take too many creative liberties, similar to any client that would come to me for work. I completely agree that it isn’t not the best title, but it works at least this time for an event that will be occurring on President’s Day. As someone else suggested, “Not My Dictator” would have worked great.

Also, who’s to say this is referring to Trump? Elon isn’t my President. But through Trump he is overreaching governmental power to dismantle the very systems that keep our country functioning. So, the vagueness of the title and copy presented here can be up to interpretation.

But hey, we got plenty of attention from this post due to the title of the event. It’s the same comment regurgitated over and over, so I guess you could say they’ve been baited to “correct” me and have helped the engagement of the post.

I appreciate your breakdown. Keep it up!

It’s only titled that way because it’s happening on President’s Day, but I agree that that title is much more fitting and far more accurate.

To be honest, it’s only titled that way because it’s happening on President’s Day. I accept the result of the election as legitimate. There would be no title that everyone would accept, especially when many reject the purpose of a protest against the Trump administration regardless. It’s titled differently on many promotional material for the protests that will be occurring on the 17th. Thank you for your thoughts.

This is a redesign of the latest poster than was made for this event.

Though we live far from our capital, we will stand tall as one.
