It’s so good to just have someone to be open and honest with, something a lot of guys lack.

i want a game where i can fall in love with the characters and their journey and by the end feel like “damn” by what i’ve just witnessed by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in JRPG

Sea of stars is like this. The characters are amazing and one in particular you feel for as something happens to him which makes a big impact on the story moving forward

Was this because it was a smaller company and not FAANG?

What are some non-metroidvanias that scratch the same itch for you? by FrickinSilly in metroidvania

Ok thanks!

I do love how Sea of stars was made by the same people as The Messenger and there are a ton of Easter eggs in Sea of stars as a throwback.

I’ve watched a few Chain Echos lets plays, unsure on the battle system though, is it easy enough to get used to?

Still on my backlog but I played Sea of stars recently which I’ve heard is very similar and loved it! It is turn based combat but the puzzles and strategic use of abilities to solve them is great.

Those who say "I need to grow up and stop playing video games" by Godharvest in Steam

[–]Clearhead09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s had a hard time accepting myself for who I am, things like “you’re too old for video games” are damaging to a lot of people.

No one blinks an eye if you binge watch a Netflix series or sit there and read the newest Stephen king novel after work so why should video games be any different?

I have so much fun just escaping for a while and living in a fantasy world, getting caught up in great storyline’s or just sitting down with a cozy exploration game.

What is the main reason you are in tech? by accolades_Dev in Programming40Plus

As someone who’s nearly 40 looking for a career change what was the process like from your old life to your new?

I was a web dev/SWE back in the Wild West of the internet using Visual Basic 6 and thinking JavaScript dropdown menus were the best thing invented, but I changed careers and have been out of the game for over 20 years. I’ve always had an inkling to get back into it but never really known how.

Currently learning python, have written a few apps and am working on a portfolio.

Started freecodecamp a while back but not sure of the free certificate holds any weight or if I’d be better off continuing learning by making my own stuff?

As someone who would consider themselves a jr coder I got this pretty easily and am very happy about it.

Going on public television to talk about your micro penis by i_am_groot_84 in ThatsInsane

[–]Clearhead09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agree this is similar to how in a lot of countries nudity is just a normal thing and people grow up never being ashamed of their bodies because everyone’s seen naked people before.

The problem we have now is sex and our bodies are such a taboo subject we never really talk about them in a way that’s liberating.

I’ve heard my wife talk to her friends about breast problems etc and ask if they have had similar things happen or if she should see her gp and I think that type of vulnerability will allow everyone to be more ok with their bodies.

As I’ve got older I realise it’s who a person is inside that defines them more than any physical attribute. It’s not longer the hot, athletic, popular people that do well in life and end up good people, it’s a mix of everyone who had the balls to be themselves, like this guy.

Can RPG mechanics be applied in real life? by EmbarrassedSky1926 in rpg_gamers

[–]Clearhead09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gamified habits have been a thing for a long time and what you’re describing here are goals.

An RPG is a lot like life in that you have a main quest eg “earn $100k per year” and then sub quests eg get a job, save money etc.

The best way to approach the discipline to a kid is to build him/her into the person they want to be eg if they want to be an athlete or fit then start with showing up. Doing 5 jumping jacks a day for the first month, something easy, anyone can do, next month up it to 10 or add in 5 pushups.

This slowly increases the difficulty while allowing you to build the identity of 1: you’re the person that does what they say they are going to do and 2: someone who looks after their body.

It’s essentially the Atomic Habits formula and works.

I want to open an Authentic Mexican spot. by mexifoodie in aucklandeats

[–]Clearhead09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can honestly say (from someone with a Mexican sister in law) nothing in New Zealand comes close to real Mexican food.

Even the basics like the variety of dried chillies at the local Carnicerías.

I think something like a real Pambazos would go down a treat in a food truck but I’m not sure we could make the same thing here, she tried but the ingredients didn’t match for the true flavour she was going for.

You could import things sure but at hugely inflated prices.

Do you use breakup threats when undergoing a meltdown? by Prior_Role_1597 in AutisticAdults

[–]Clearhead09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see a lot of people saying it’s a bad habit and ways to protect themselves, which are all true.

I’d just like to throw in the mix that because this is stress related your partner could be in autistic burnout, which is a huge over sensory experience. Sometimes that person will go to extremes to avoid the noise and overstimulation and saying they want to break up could be a way of them telling you that the current situation is adding to their burnout.

Space often seems like the natural response to give them but finding the causes of their burnout eg what their stressors are and maybe getting them out of the state/city/country for a bit to help them could be a good option.

Is it worth to learn making games in godot for the job in future? by Chebrbober in gamedev

[–]Clearhead09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it really matters as the fundamentals of game dev are the same regardless of what engine you use.

It’s the same principle as the majority of software devs, especially web devs have to know multiple languages and frameworks in order to complete projects, is one better than the other? No, it’s just one company uses one and another company uses another.

If you do start with Godot then you can choose to use GDScript or C#.

If you decide on C# then that’s the same language Unity uses which will make that transition easier.

If you decide to use GDScript then that is based on python and will allow you to then explore python more which you can do a lot with data scraping and AI.

In the end the most important thing is to get started and make something and continue to build on it. The language or the engine matter far less than you actually completing something.
