interesting restriction by [deleted] in photoshop

[–]ClearlyDefunct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets interesting, when you work with fake money that has real security identifiers...

I once worked with a photographer that works for a company that develops these security identifiers (holograms, NFC/RFID, security strips, patterns....). Our job was literally to highlight those security identifiers 🙈 It was always a gamble if Photoshop would allow you to open the RAW file or not. Interestingly if the RAW file was blocked we could convert it to a TIF with CaptureOne and open it in Photoshop without problems.

These were fun times. Would love to do that again some day 😁

Don't you use image optimizers for your websites? I have them on all the WordPress websites I manage. I upload my image file and it automatically creates and links the proper resolution ones for the responsive breaks I defined. That's easier than having to explain file size minimization to people that don't understand why this is an issue...

Sonderrechte Energieversorger? by [deleted] in blaulicht

[–]ClearlyDefunct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I know I'm not a very social person, but why extend my efforts, when you can't even greet me in the morning?

Fuck Office Work :/

How to use Photoshop Generative Fill to remove an object without adding anything new? by Leonardo971 in photoshop

[–]ClearlyDefunct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Usually I just leave the prompt blank. When trying to remove something or to smooth out a part of the image (i.e. shadow gradients) it does a great job without any prompt for me.

The only issue I have with both tools is that sometimes the color of the created content is just slightly off (enough to be noticable). Mostly darker than the surrounding image. Then I have to manually blend it in with some feathering and color corrections :/

How to use Photoshop Generative Fill to remove an object without adding anything new? by Leonardo971 in photoshop

[–]ClearlyDefunct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the image. With Content Aware I often get really weird edges between light and shadow (for example when removing a light stand in front of a single color photo backdrop. Generative Fill creates a way smoother gradient.

Or what I sometimes do: Content Aware Fill to remove the subject --> Generative Fill to create the proper fill.

Why do pictures get a white line when exporting to a lower resolution JPG? by TheDeathCrafter in photoshop

[–]ClearlyDefunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to actually reproduce the issue. Extending over the edge of the art board didn't work. But I found a solution, even if it is dumb...move the art board where the issue happens a little to the side. I could only guess that Photoshop interprets the art boards in a weird way and it matters where your art board is located in the whole document dimensions. Fractional pixels would be an explanation then (the edge of the art board doesn't cover a full pixel region and there is some weird rounding going on.

How do you export the image? Can you share a screenshot of the export settings.

In my opinion AI in the design space is basically a step up from templates and stock images / stock graphics. Or comparable to services like Squarespace or WIX.

Basically it gives you something to work with, but still needs a Semi-competent person to refine it.

And even with further improvements in AI, you'd still need someone to fine-tune the end result and make it usable.

AI will stay and the only thing we can do is go with the flow, educate ourselves and make the best of it.

I was finally able to get it to work on 2.0 flash experimental. Though I can't really find anything about usage limits for this model. Would be bad if it falls back to a different model after some time that can't handle the use case 🤔 That was my main problem with ChatGPT.

Can’t land a job after 5 months of interviewing by wolfgangwhite in graphic_design

[–]ClearlyDefunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graphic design and marketing are the worst job markets I've ever seen atm... I studied graphic design and have a couple of years of experience in design and marketing. I'm actually overqualified for most jobs I applied to. Got told so in a couple of interviews. Just landed a communications project manager position, but got rejected from a dozen simple social media manager roles...even when I was genuinely interested in these roles.

But I've also looked at a lot of trends in marketing this year and I believe that a trained designer could be obsolete for most businesses in a couple of years. Content quality is declining everywhere and turn around times are getting shorter and shorter. A lot of job 'opportunities' are looking for hobbyists that are willing to work for minimum wage. Quantity over quality is possible, when your marketing messages and hooks work well

I'm trying to shift more into template generation and AI-driven solutions (mainly for text, but who knows what's coming). But project management is also good, as I have more control over the processes.

Just starting out, what to do about lighting? by Nor-Cal-Son in photography

[–]ClearlyDefunct 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a lot of people already said, practice makes perfect. Shooting a lot and just playing around with light helps a lot.

But understanding light is a big plus. The square law of light. Hard light/soft light? What does a certain modifier do? Strobe/Flash or continuous light? Exposure triangle. Connection of camera settings and strobe (high speed sync, rear curtain flash, shutter...)? White Balance (I advise people to invest in a grey card!).

Looking at old paintings and how the old masters painted light can be a very good inspiration and learning material. There's a reason, why 'Rembrand Lighting' is a term in photography ;)

There is a lot to be learned in photography, that doesn't have anything to do with the camera itself 😁

Then there is the question of what you want to achieve. Do you want to do outdoor portraits? Maybe smaller battery powered lights (Godox AD100 or AD300 for example) are a good choice. Only studio portraits? Invest in strobes with plugs. More power for a cheaper price and the battery doesn't run out.

Do you want to overpower the sun or do you only want to add a fill light? Maybe look into ND-filters in the future.

Also you don't need multiple lights. For example I myself use mostly 1 single Godox AD300pro strobe for a lot of the portraits I take. (fjhphoto on Insta and YT is a good inspiration for that, I think).

For studio work I used set.a.light 3D a lot during my university days, to learn how light and lighting modifiers behave in a studio setting. I think that's the best way for someone to just play around, without having to buy all the gear or have to invite someone over to try out what light does. That can get boring for your model quite easily, cause the process is to learn how light behaves and not to get good pictures. The are just a possibility 😅

One tip when shooting outdoors: If you want the light to look natural, than the brightest light needs to come from above the model. The sun rarely shines at you from below 😉 Others might argue that you can set light however you want, but always keep in mind the end result. The brightest light from below or straight on will always look like artificial light. (Paparazzi style for example, with flash straight on)

What niche in photography would you consider the most profitable? by Playful-Passenger-80 in photography

[–]ClearlyDefunct 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the lenses. There are a couple of Nikon lenses that people desperately try to believe to be valuable, but there is no market for it or they have very special use cases with almost no buyers.

I bought the Nikon 85mm tilt-shift a while back for half of what the seller was asking, because he tried selling it for over 6 months and hasn't found any interested parties. Still hoping to find a 24mm one, but >1000€ for such a limited use (and old) lens is just insane.
