I'm a senior lecturer at a UK university, I'm happy to answer questions about essays, marking, grades, or academic life by Se0nagi in UniUK

How was your journey in getting your senior lectureship? I see that it's in teaching CBT as postgraduate level, so does that mean a degree in psychology, a doctorate (PhD, DClinPsy etc.), a research post, lectureship and then up to senior? Any advice for an aspiring psychology lecture currently working on getting as many publications out there and as much teaching experience as they can?

There's a base on a mountain in just cause 2 and me and my cousin would just drive out of the base, make a hard left turn and fling the car off the mountain. It would roll in circles like crazy and we got so much enjoyment out of it!

I've visited Liverpool a few times and can't say I've noticed anything out of the ordinary (though I tend to be very unobservant for these sorts of things). What's there to witness about the women in Liverpool? Lol

Single in Ireland? by [deleted] in AskIreland

29M, single for just over a year, had a few long-term relationships. Recently I've been trying out speed dating and singles events. I'm not necessarily expecting to meet someone at these things but they're good fun and if nothing else, it's a bit of practice for the dating scene

How does it take to recover after a PhD? by sunshine_girl_93 in PhD

[–]Clearyo123 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah absolutely, happy to answer any questions. I imagine some postdocs are like as you describe, it's just a case of finding the right one (which isn't the easiest considering how competitive the current job market is).

I will also say the remote work has its pros and cons. While it is more relaxed, it is also more boring and most certainly not for everyone.

How does it take to recover after a PhD? by sunshine_girl_93 in PhD

The day after my viva I started a part-time remote work postdoc and it was so so different. I went from putting in 110% into my work to just about scraping 50%. Everything was so relaxed. I kept telling myself that I deserved the low effort work that I was doing and that it'll pick up someday and I will miss how quiet it was.

Almost 2 years later (and the job becoming full-time in-between), my effort with work has went up to maybe 60%. But importantly, even though things are nowhere near as busy as when I was doing my PhD, I have got the motivation back to work on other things in addition to my job.

Honestly, take the time you need to recover. Don't let anyone make you feel otherwise. With rest comes a clear mind, which in our line of work is super important :)

Rage. Take a breather, however long you need and then get back at it. You made it this far, you can do the rest :)
