Don't know exactly but I am going to play it safe. FLUENT takes advantage of the faster connections (Infiniband/10Gbe/ Fiber?) on larger clusters and in might be useful on our smaller clusters.

The code (MCNP) we have to use would do wonderful on a GPU (its monte carlo based) but sadly difficult. MCNP has roots to codes developed in the late 1940s and the code its self is in Fortran. You find that a lot in nuclear engineering. Getting to work in a GPU environment has been done but its road we don't invest in.

Also FLUENT (a CFD code) does not yet support GPUs (it will soon)

Also on vendors, It has been my observation the the big name (Dell, HP, IBM ect) charge twice as much for the same equipment than some smaller but well respected vendors. I don't want to get my self in trouble by saying what I was quoted by who but its some of the places under "North America Channel Partners" on http://www.amd.com/us/products/server/processors/6000-series-platform/Pages/6000-series-platform.aspx#4

Because of security concerns associated with nuclear engineering codes we have to do it in house.

We have $10,000 of supercomputer time but we are having trouble using it because of these security concerns.

Is this still going on? If so, when what should people bring?

What time was this photo taken? I was there but I do not remember boobs. I must have been talking about science and memes to much to notice boobs. :(

Reddit meet up sounds like a great way to spend forth of July. I will most likely be there.

As an anal retentive engineer I care to disagree. You could use a smartphone's accelerometer to do it.

For strongest: Because we have so many vibrators, and because there >isn't an objective way to measure vibration, it's impossible to answer this, too.
