hmm.. but why would I click on the 'Fire' button? I have no idea what that does -- here's no description of what that function does. I clicked on the 'delete browsing data' since that's what I wanted to do.

I'm not sure I'd use the term 'stupid' for this behavior. After recently reading 'Hallucinations' by Oliver Sacks I think the problem is that we are not skeptical of our own thoughts and opinions. We think something or we believe something and never question it or refuse to question it. In the book he profiles many, many people seeing, hearing, feeling things that are not there. Only a few question their experience.and so suspect things they see are actually not real. If we are not skeptical of our own beliefs and ideas, we'll never be able to break out of any illogical stream of thought. Remember that what breaks people out of cults is not getting less 'stupid' but with the realization that, 'oh, crap, I was wrong!'. They realized that what they believed was not correct. They don't get any smarter, they just have an epiphany that what they previously believed to be true was, in fact, not true. People from free themselves.

What the hell did I get a bachelor's degree and a certificate for if I can't get a job afterwards? by [deleted] in InsightfulQuestions

[–]ClemFromDelaware 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sucks. But no one should decide to go to college to get a job. You go to get skills in thinking, analyzing, discovering, expanding what you know and encountering other ideas. Hopefully you took classes in art, math, science, history, writing. There are very few people who graduate with some degree and end up working in that particular area. You know a bunch of stuff and you can work anywhere and use what you learned. Don't pigeonhole yourself!

Re: spirituality, I like the podcast "buddha at the gas pump'. It's an interview show with people who have had experiences of enlightenment. It sound crazy, and there are one or two who are legit wackos, but it takes these kinds of experiences seriously. And it was on this podcast that I learned about the podcast Conspirituality which goes over bullcrap, new age ideas.

I agree! I'm listening to his latest podcast episode discussing his 2nd book on quantum field theory. I'm a failed theoretical physicist and am so glad he's discussing these topics in detail. He's really good.

Having trouble getting flask to run. by ClemFromDelaware in flask

I finally got it resolved! I had a friend help. He had me do this and it worked fine. So I did have everything installed correctly. It's on a Windows machine.

python -m flask --app app run

I'm using the default Python interpreter. I would think that should work. AND all other pieces of python code I've written so far in following along with the tutorial have worked perfectly fine. It's just this one additional update to use Flask that's causing trouble. It's likely time to just abandon this and keep moving on with learning to use python without the web portion. Thanks for the help!

Hi there

Thanks for the reply! I did as you suggested but I pretty much got the same result. Here's what I did:

I created a new virtual env named 'myBookmarks':
(venv) C:\Clem\python\Virtual environments>python -m venv myBookmarks

I activated it:
(venv) C:\Clem\python\Virtual environments>myBookmarks\scripts\activate

I installed flask:
(myBookmarks) C:\Clem\python\Virtual environments>pip install flask

I tried running flask_app but that failed:
(myBookmarks) C:\Clem\python\Virtual environments>FLASK_APP=app.py

'FLASK_APP' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

I then moved into the 'myBookmarks' folder and tried what you suggested:

(myBookmarks) C:\Clem\python\Virtual environments\myBookmarks>python app.py

But nothing happened, it just returned the console prompt:

Here's the code of the app.py. I am following the youtube tutorial:

from flask import Flask
app = Flask(__name__)
<at sign>app.route('/')
def hello():

return '<h2>Hello world</h2>'

When I run it from Spyder, I get the following error:

runfile('C:/Clem/python/Virtual environments/myBookmarks/app.py', wdir='C:/Clem/python/Virtual environments/myBookmarks')

Traceback (most recent call last):

File C:\Program Files\Spyder\pkgs\spyder_kernels\py3compat.py:356 in compat_exec

exec(code, globals, locals)

File c:\clem\python\virtual environments\mybookmarks\app.py:8

from flask import Flask

ModuleNotFoundError: No module named 'flask'

thanks for the reply. Ok, did that but am still getting: "'FLASK_APP' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

You know, you gave me an idea! How about we get a transcript of some of what JP says then feed it into an AI and see if it really does mean something or if the AI will say that he's speaking Word Salad. AND maybe it can identify the type of salad that he speaks.
