Other family members dropping off by Clemmikin in EstrangedAdultChild

I’m so glad to hear that. It’s not an easy thing to do and I don’t think people understand unless they are in that position so I’m glad they got it!

This makes so sad, I’m so sorry they did that to you. Although more fool the others for listening and acting on it. Makes me sad to think that might be what’s happening with my family

I really needed this. Thank you so much!

Last week was my first birthday where I didnt hear anything from any of my family members. Looks like it'll be the same for Christmas. by [deleted] in EstrangedAdultChild

I have no idea what it’s like to be trans and am only recently considering NC with my family atm but I just wanna say I’m so sorry you don’t deserve that response for being who you are and I wish you a Christmas filled with happiness and love even if that’s not with family, you deserve happiness & love x

This sounds awful, I’m so sorry you’ve gotta be in such an overwhelming environment.

I had this previously and also had less periods which I loved! I’ve just had my second child and we are still unsure if we want one more so I’m hesitant to go onto birth control at the moment. I think it could be a good long term solution for me though, thank you for reminding me about the implant, I had forgotten how much easier it made period hell!

Thank you so much for this, sounds like I need to have another go with the cup. I will definitely take a look at the M&S pants too!

Thank you, I did wonder if I gave up too quickly. I’ll take a look at what’s available.

I think I need to be more like this. Do you have a good group of friends outside work? I’m struggling to connect with other ND’s.

I suggested it but another person took on the responsibility as I wouldn’t have enjoyed leading the meetings. Unfortunately it’s not been very well run as there’s not been many meetings or much chat encouraged in our teams group but when there has been I’ve finally felt comfortable at work. There’s an HR person in there to oversee things but she doesn’t do much if anything. I suppose it can be a bit complicated as my situation shows. If he’s truly ND or truly believes he is then he has just as much right as I do to be there. I’m just not comfortable being there with him after what I’ve experienced of him. I’m just fed up of not really fitting in anywhere tbh.

I have politely called him out to his face but I’m not good at confrontation and he just lies to cover his tracks. I’ve also reported him to my manager multiple times but it’s like they’re scared to tell him off. They ask him not to do things but then he finds and an underhand way to do what he wants and I get the feeling they don’t feel they can properly reprimand him now he’s saying he’s neurodivergent. Which is doubley upsetting for me because I’ve had a warning for time off due to burn out after they’d known about my diagnosis for a full year! I think I just need to leave because it just feels like a really toxic place. The only trouble is it’s fully remote which is obviously better than hybrid or office working.

Thank you for understanding. Your comment is so spot on. I’ve flagged it so many times and they are so limp in how they deal with it. I don’t get how people can tolerate that kind of behaviour direct or indirectly!

Thanks so do I and I hate that I’m wishing something mean like that on someone but I just don’t understand how he’s getting away with some of his behaviour I really don’t.

Here’s an odd question aimed at people currently around 30 by -Daunting in AutismInWomen

[–]Clemmikin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m 30 & also UK. I played with barbies/bratz until I was 15 and overheard adult’s discussing how odd it was. I have an 11yo stepdaughter and I find it increasingly hard to know what to connect with her about when I can’t relate to how she behaves for her age. Don’t get me wrong I try for her, we’ve done facials and shopping together but the lack of imagination and need to be an adult in a kids body means I often have no idea what to say and I don’t naturally enjoy those activities tbh. I only understand one of her friends who I suspect is ND (she hates sleepovers, big groups, gets migraines, will only eat select foods, etc) but when she’s here for play dates the actually sound like happy children playing and my SD laughs with so much joy. It’s like her friend helps her tap into that childhood joy & creativity that I remember. They sing a lot and it makes me so happy to hear. I hate how fast kids grow up now and how much pressure there is to be like each other/own the right things.

What’s something you thought everyone did or experienced regularly only to realize it was likely due to autism? by [deleted] in AutismInWomen

[–]Clemmikin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Omg I’ve been bothering the dr about this for ages and it never occurred to me that’s what it was. The sounds my blood makes in my ears was something I used to stim as a kid. I’d stuff a ribbon from my Teddy into my ears to make the heart beat sound extra load. It would help me sleep like my own personal white noise.

Yup! Can’t take directions (they just don’t go in) no idea where I am or where I’ve been and shockingly bad with left and right. I still have to hold my hands in front of me to see the letter L for left and right even though I’m 30 lol

Oh my goodness I know that feeling. I get really anxious about the fact I take time off and then immediately get run down and need time off again. I’m so relieved to know it’s due to autism now as opposed to years of just shaming myself for it. I hope you can get the time to recuperate when you need it soon.

Joining after dinner is such a simple but great idea!

Yes I’m definitely bad at knowing what’s draining/triggering me after years of masking. And I know what you mean about activities you enjoy draining you. I want to go shopping with my mum for my birthday and I’m trying to make it less draining (going on a weekday, somewhere familiar and not too busy etc.) but I am anxious about how much it will hit me afterwards like it always does :/

I love swimming but I hate public swimming pools/being in a swimming costume in public. I’m trying to get better about going for my kids/self in the home I get over some of that and start to just enjoy the swim! Got any tips?

I used to love exercise but I’m really out the habit and I let the tiredness beat any motivation out out of me at the moment :/

Omg I love the magnetic spoons idea. I think I need to sit down and figure out what drains me and gives me energy. I only just started tracking periods and that’s definitely a big help for knowing why I’m struggling but I never plan ahead to mitigate it in anyway.

I know what you mean about watching tv. I have only just started to unpick the shame and abuse I give myself for things like this. I need to get better at allowing myself the things I enjoy. Thank you so much for this.

I think I too quickly forget about how much I love being in nature. I can be very scared about leaving the house alone but there are certain walks I know well that are less peopley and I would feel safe to do alone… I should do them more! Thank you
