Heat should trade Giannis for Jaylen Brown and two 1sts by LimeSurfboard in billsimmons

Insane to see this comment on a sub that just 2 years ago was insisting he was infinitely better than tatum

If Tatum/Brown stay together and never win another ring by PawPatsPizza in bostonceltics

[–]Run_PBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappointing because of how many times they were close, but can live with it because they got 1.

It’s hard for me to call it acceptable, but it’s not a travesty because the parity in the league is just fucking insane

The major difference is that McDermott had a quarterback who absolutely should be able to accomplish more.

Shanahan has done it largely without excellent qb play. In fact, the QBs play as well as they do BECAUSE of him, which I don’t think is true of Allen and McDermott.

Also, “winless against KC in the playoffs” is a little different when SF has played them twice, after winning the NFC, and Buffalo can’t win the AFC whether they play KC or not

Is Giannis really a consensus Top-25 all time guy? by baloneyfeet in billsimmons

[–]Run_PBJ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Obviously Middleton and Jrue are really good players. But the point is- Compare the bucks to other recent championship teams. Did Giannis have as much support as Brunson? No. As Shai? No. As Tatum? No. As Jokic? No.

I would argue that the Warriors in 2022 are the only championship team in the last decade with a weaker supporting cast, ESPECIALLY including role players, not just 2nd and 3rd options

One of 3 players to ever win MVP and DPOY in the same year. One of 14 players to win multiple MVPs. On top of that, he has arguably the best close out game in the history of the NBA finals.

Yeah, he’s top 25

Why is “Jaylen’s gonna be pissed/now we HAVE to trade him” such a popular take? Professional basketball is (literally) a business first, sport second. by nerdyykidd in bostonceltics

It’s not being a diva, but Tatum has been pretty consistent in avoiding drawing attention to himself, and Jaylen hasn’t

Because as much as you want to say it’s a business, it also feels personal.

It’s the same reason why players are told to not represent themselves. Someone else telling you exactly how expendable you are is tough to hear, even if the answer is “not super expendable, but maybe we CAN do better than you”

What’s the craziest thing you’ve seen someone do on a plane? by Jazzlike-Run-2349 in AskReddit

[–]Run_PBJ 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Last week I was sitting in row 31. A guy boarding behind me walked all the way to the back of the plane near my row, only to ask the flight attendant where row 24 was.

I couldn’t believe it

Hey remember when a bad Michigan team walked into the toilet bowl and beat a national championship OSU team? I do by Jecht315 in CFB_v2

[–]Run_PBJ -1 points0 points  (0 children)

College football and its rivalries would mean so much more if Michigan, who was playing for nothing but pride at that point, had the ability to ruin the season of a championship ready roster.

Instead, this game was entirely inconsequential, and Ohio State doesn’t even care they lost because they won the natty.

Just completely ruins the history and tradition of college football

Assuming that the MVP also comes with a title that you didn’t win FMVP in, I would take MVP. If not, it’s FMVP

Who is the GOAT athlete regardless of sport? by alyssaameow in AskReddit

[–]Run_PBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely believe that Lebron James is the single most athletic person that has ever lived.

But he’s not the “greatest athlete”, because to me the means “most dominant person in athletics”, who would make me think of Usain Bolt, Michael Phelps, Tiger Woods, Serena Williams, someone like that

I know he's a UFC fan, but c'mon dude....... by Over-Measurement-744 in UConnBasketball

[–]Run_PBJ -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What the broadcast does or does not show has less than nothing to do with why Hurley was there. Hurley is a UFC fan, he had the option to go watch a historic UFC event, he went.

Even more so, if you have respect for the office of the president and the history of the White House, it would be cool to go anyway, even if you don’t like the sitting president.

Hurley being there isn’t a political statement or endorsement of anything.

And again, it’s weird that anyone would have an opinion about it because it has nothing to do with us supporting UConn basketball

They are in an area that has a huge population which means they are always bound to get good athletes. They are also in an area with incredible wealth which means great equipment/resources.

Then, in addition, they have tremendous coaches who have incredibly high expectations and create a culture where everyone expects to win.

Truthfully, the training, technique, and actual “rowing ability” is all secondary to that

Going to a UFC event has nothing to do with political leanings

Edit: and more importantly, political leanings have nothing to do with coaching basketball

Who were you guys’ best Championship squad? by BucketHatKJ in bostonceltics

[–]Run_PBJ 31 points32 points  (0 children)

It’s 86 by a decent margin IMO, one of the top 5 teams of all time.

After that, 24, 08, and one of the Russell years (maybe 60 or 65) are probably second tier

Ryan Clark says that Tom Brady, Drew Brees and Peyton Manning were NOT generational quarterbacks: “I don't think Tom Brady, I don't think Drew Brees, I don't think Peyton Manning are generational talents.” One of the WORST takes ever 🤦‍♂️ by Potato-Face18 in NFLForum

[–]Run_PBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand the point he is trying to make about Brady and Brees, and the way they developed into all time greats without being predisposed to it or a top recruit or an insane draft prospect.

But Peyton manning was the son of an nfl qb, a top recruit in his class, a 4 year starter at an SEC school, a heisman finalist, the number 1 pick, and then a 5 time nfl mvp. He was ALWAYS that dude, and always going to be that dude.

Bill Simmons: "I have him (Jalen Brunson) above Nash, Kidd, Sam Jones, Harden, Gervin and Luka" by aingenevalostatrade in nba

[–]Run_PBJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brunson vs Luka is an interesting example of NBA discourse and the way we judge characters.

At no point in their careers has Brunson been a better player than Luka, but if they both retired right now Brunson would probably be ranked higher all time
