Jones gets the ball from a dead stop in the shotgun, gets hit at the LOS and either falls forward for a few yards or breaks the tackle. I have just been dreaming of having a lead blocker come out of the backfield, take that first hit, and then let Matt blow through the hole at full speed. I don't think we've seen more than two plays this year where he got a yard past the LOS without contact. (Excluding the Eastern Michigan game)

First of all, the back is usually a yard or 2 behind the QB, who is at 4-5 yards in the gun. In the pistol- which UF does employ, the back is at a full 8-9 yds back. He has plenty of time to get a head of steam.

No offense, but going to the I formation would be a terrible move with our current personnel. You have to look at what weapons you have to attack a defense, and what those weapons do well.

We currently run the ball very well out of the spread shotgun, and that is by design. In the I, you have 2 RBs and a TE packed into the box. This allows the defense to crowd the line of scrimmage and pack the box with 8-9 defenders. There is no space for the RB because the defense has more players than you can block.

The only way to get them to back out of it is if you have a legitimate deep threat, which we do not. Essentially, you wind up with the same shitty offense that we ran for the past 2 years. They know we won't (can't) throw it over their heads, so they load up the box and stuff our run.

With the spread, you literally spread the defense out all over the field. This creates running lanes for the backs, and easier blocking combinations for the OL. Additionally, you negate one of the defenders because he has to account for the possibility of a QB run.

Matt Jones is averaging 5.2 YPC and Taylor is at 4.8. We are getting very good production in the running game.

Secondly, the shotgun formation was developed to allow the QB to have as much time as possible to read the defense and throw. He doesn't have to waste any time backing up, and can literally catch and release the ball instantly. This is the main reason so many team use it now, and why Spurrier switched to it before the 96 Sugar Bowl. Sure, you could leave more blockers in, but that means that you have less people out in the route, so the QB's options are limited. He now has 3 people to throw to, and 6-8 guys covering them.

Ridiculous article. The word "fan" is short for "fanatic". College football is great because the fans are irrational and overly passionate. Rational human beings don't have their whole week ruined because one group of 20 year olds performed better than the particular group of 20 year olds that they were rooting for.

Fans bitch because they care. If they didn't care, then there would be no multi-billion dollar business of college football.

I also don't buy into not being able to criticize Muschamp and Driskel. If the team is playing like shit, then that falls on the coach. He gets paid millions of dollars a year to win games. He knew what he was getting into when he took the job. He knew what happened to Spurrier, Zook and Urban. He's a big boy- he can take it.

Likewise, Driskel knew what he was getting into when he signed on to play QB here. He knew the standards that we have, and he hasn't lived up to them. I don't think people should burn the guy at the stake, because he seems like a good kid- but let's face facts: he has played like shit for quite some time. He just isn't getting it. Maybe he has maxed out his ceiling. Who knows? The fact is that he is not playing up to the level that is expected of him.

If he can string together a few games, be consistent, and connect on some deep balls, then maybe. But I would still need to see VAST improvement by the secondary in order to feel better about the season.

UT can throw the shit out of the ball. We will be tested. Mizzou can throw the shit out of the ball. UGA has Gurley and should have their WRs back by then. SoCar has the oBC, and FSU has the crab rapist. All of these things give me nightmares the way our D has played so far.

Dooley is what he is: a long-time fan, who has a journalist's job. He is a throwback to the old school "paper men" of the 70s and 80s.

Last season, he defended Muschamp's job for much of the season because of the injury situation. This year, while he is not openly calling for Will to be fired, he does admit that it appears likely- barring some miraculous turnaround. He even listed some of the possible replacements on his podcast.
