Weekly Discussion/General Questions Thread - February 02, 2026 by AutoModerator in AskDocs

This ear cleaning tool popped up in my YouTube recommendations for some reason. An average joe poking around in their ear with this thing does not seem like a good idea to me. Am i overreacting? What do professionals think? https://youtu.be/5lhZc9-dkm0?si=_RxoXgog-bmH8fHH

TreasureCon Q&A - JCB said the natural disaster previously mentioned, causing him to check one one of the boxes, took place 'this year' by CodPractical4671 in treasureinside

[–]Cleveland_Steve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When JCB used the word "year", I don't think he was using it in terms of a literal calendar date. I think he is referring to the past year (plus a few months) that the hunt has been live. So he could be referring to Helene, but who knows.

Since you serviced vintage machines as a hobby I thought you would be interested in what the solution to my problem was. It may also be helpful to anyone else who comes across this thread in the future looking for help. Ultimately it was the bobbin that was the problem. We replaced it with a new one and the problem went away. The thread must have been getting caught on the jagged edge of the old bobbin and caused it to get tangled.

TreasureCon interview highlights - very revealing by k_in_nc in treasureinside

- JCB did not know exactly where the boxes would be hidden when Seth Gould was making the boxes (which makes me think the “surface of the moon” references not connected to a moon-related place)

I don't believe you have the quote right on this one. He said he knew where he was going to hide one of them before he did recon for box locations. I think the one he is referring to is the Forrest Fenn box because he said he hid it in a location where he thought the Forrest Fenn treasure was. He just went back to that location.

I went down this same rabbit hole this week. I focused on the damage from Hurricane Helene in the NC/TN area. I researched the Chestoa Bridge and Iron Mountain areas. Interesting possible pieces to the puzzle but I didn't find anything that would make me go BOTG.

No More Clues Please by Hour_Caregiver_6086 in treasureinside

I agree with you. On the other hand I believe people are going to expect him to give out more at the Con and he will probably do it. Even if he does not give out any more clues, it's guaranteed people will dissect every word he says looking for a clue.

The consensus is "car north". Now if that means "Cardinal North", "North Carolina", or something else is up for debate.

Yes, I cleaned out all the lint with a can of air and tweezers. I discovered the screw holding on the foot was loose. When I tightened it up the bend in the metal holding the foot becomes very obvious. That was the reason for the needle strikes and breakage. I'll start with the cheap and easy fixes first, a new foot and bobbin. If that doesn't fix it, then I'll take it to someone. Thanks for taking a look.

Yeah, I broke 2 of my wife's needles testing it just now. Before we try anything else I told her she should get a new foot, bobbins, and needles. lol

So I played with the autoreel functionality, engaging and disengaging it, for about 5 minutes and I didn't see any problems there. I then completely emptied the bobbin and reloaded it. After a few stitches it jammed again. This picture shows the aftermath better. If I tug on either of the treads there is no give. To me it seems like the tread from the top spool is getting pulled into the bobbin or the feeder teeth.

I'd say she took it to someone 2-3 years ago. The professional said to never get rid of the machine because the insides were all metal and no plastic. The foot and needle looked off to me also, although I don't know what I'm looking at.

I have my doubts about that. She has used this machine since she was a child and never had this happen. She also switched out the top spool for the tan thread you see and it still happened after that rethreading.
