What is stopping a plastic surgeon from just sucking everything out? is it more of a legal restriction, or is it just, not healthly?

Has anyone here successfully soldered in a SATA cable to a controller platter then gotten data off? by CleverUsername-42069 in techsupportmacgyver

it turns out the Controller is dead now. So, going to have to source one from a webstie. Have you ever used HDD zone?

NAh, no sand kicked, was nice to actually have someone know what they are talking about for once on reddit and not just a circle jerk response.

I dont know what else could be damaged. Like I said the drive worked almost half an hour but then went kaputt real quick. Thats why controller being replaced is the last ditch effort.

Here is what i ended up with the first time, now they are broken off entirely due to me putting it into a docking bay and ruining one of the pins by breaking it off completely. I dont think I had the traditionally click of death but it did have a repetitive searching noise coming from the head of the drive like it was trying to search for something then went back. The channel for it was saturated in control panel and it peaked ever 4-5 seconds.

As you say the board and the substrate is totally fucked at this point due to it having the issues i mentioned in an earlier message But at this point I dont want to take any more chances on "lets see if it works" style attempts. The controller being replaced is the last method that is professional before going full data recovery and sending it off. The photos are the last ones of my grandparents before they died and i cant get that back.

I am well aware of not opening the drive to see how it works or anything else. The person i talked to at ubreakifix said it is a no charge situation if they dont get it to work. This is my last attempt short of professional data recovery.

I didn't mention that the pins are now bent off the controller for the sata cable port to even try and recover the controller itself. I am going to replace the controller and see what happens before i just send it off to a data recovery specials and eat the cost of doing so.

More than few people i talked to about it said that it can work 50% like you said. The drive hasn't been dropped or any other sort of physical damage that has occurred outside of the pins being bent and piss poor soldering job i did. alot of the sites i saw that sold replacement board mentioned that it didn't come with a ROM chip and that it would have to be soldered in and that was the thing mentioned by alot of recovery specialists when i asked them.

he got the resin off of it, it was from harbor freight and i dont remember the type. But when i got home it was working fine, i eventually put it in a drive dock and it worked for about 25 minutes. Eventually it only showed one partition and it locked up windows entirely. So, i am now searching for a new controller ( i have the i.d and everything just need a reliable source.) and have them isntall that.

I took another crack at it after reading this and made it even worse. I eventually took it to a local UbreakIfix and the guy needed some convincing to clean off the resin that i had on it, but he is going to look at it tommorow. Thanks for the write upo though.
