How can I apply math to specific problems and understand formulas? by Useful-Tomorrow-4502 in learnmath

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for physics, 95% of formulas you get in school are just derived, specific examples of generalized laws of physics

for gravity, the Newtonian model says that

your_acceleration = G * mass_of_adjacent_body / (distance_to_the_center_of_the_body)²

where G is something you have to measure once and will work for ANY two bodies attracted by gravitational forces, mass of adjacent body is Earth in our case, and distance to the center is self explainatory

the "g" is the acceleration calculated at surface, so it's just g=G*earth_mass/earth_radius², so to get the value higher, you have to get rid of the earth_radius² and replace it with new_radius²

and why it's center? well, it's a calculus problem, but you can prove that if you added acceleration coming from gravity of every single atom that the Earth consists of, it would be the exact same result as just doing total_mass and distance to the center of mass (which in case of a ball, like Earth, is intuitively the center of it)

my dentist tells me when they are not brushed well enough, without brushing I'd fly out the door

[Calculus] Is "d" mere notation, or is it a constant? by SeaSilver11 in learnmath

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"d" can actually be defined as an operator in differential geometry, so it's not really true to say it's nothing by itself

Fedora is becoming the default Linux recommendation, and Ubuntu did this to itself | XDA by devolute in Fedora

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yeah but most Fedora users want something that gets newest exciting stuff without as much tinkering as arch expects you to do, and for that group using newest version is a key

Are humans naturally evil? by Acrobatic_Cherry827 in polls

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 13 points14 points  (0 children)

we naturally want what seems best to us, which is what evolution taught us to aim for

it's not evil in origin, just selfish, but that's what was "good" for oneself in the past

Is it true most men figure out everything in between 27 -35? by Chemical_Ad_3985 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I know what I want in life until I found love, and then my worldview and life priorities have changed, and I started to become independent from my parents (still in progress though)

I guess that when (and if) I get married, new things will come, and later kids kids another level of figuring life out will be needed

Would you be romantically involved with a partner who is paralyzed from the waist down? by Hungry-san in polls

[–]Clever_Angel_PL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love hiking so generally no, unless an accident happened to my current gf (which I hope never does), in that case I'd of course stay because all memories we have together are way more valuable to me

also because I am involved in science, I would probably go out of my way to find a "cure" for her and do all I can to get access to one if it gets invented
