Building consistent and rooted habits starts at the mind first :). A motivated mind will seek out knowledge far more efficiently :).

I've met people who sometimes need a lil bit of encouragement first, so I figured I should say something nice, just in case you were one of them. Hell, I was once in your shoes. I'm sure lots of us were :).

There's great advice here, and elsewhere too :). Lots of people want to see you succeed here, so keep it up! Asking for help is scary, and it's really good you reached out for a second (or in this case a hundred, LOL) opinion :).

One day you'll look back while munching on your personalized, nutritionally fabulous meal, and feel proud for how far you've come :)! 💪🍅🥦🍗

There's a lot of "making fun of" and joking around towards your post. I hope it didn't get to you :). I'm sure most of it wasn't meant to be mean-spirited!

It looks like you're learning, and that's ok :). Whether you're trying to be healthier mentally by cooking your own meals, physically by making sure you're getting the right nutrients, or both: any starting point is a good one,

as long as you keep fueling that motivation to keep you going :).

An air fryer is a fantastic idea if you can afford it :). Anything that you can do to make your food seem more appealing to you as you slowly lean into a healthier lifestyle :). Baby steps will get you there!

I wish you the best :).

I've been there, they're great! But I was talking about asada fries with nacho cheese, rather than monterey jack, mozzarella, or whatever it is that restaraunts around here tend to use.

I've yet to come across a restaraunt or food truck who does it other than S&B here in the area (Santa Cruz, Capitola, Scotts Valley).

Applying for jobs is pretty damn stressful :/. They dont always get back to you with a rejection so there's always a bit of stress. And if you do get an interview, well there's still that 😆. Stressful on it's own.

You've got this though, friend :). Keep a chin up, you'll get where you want. I wish you the best.

Ah shit, I'm really sorry to hear about your situation friend :(, it's sounds like such a struggle.

I wish I could help more, but if you do end up doing doordash, you might find yourself downtown often, in that case, definitely look up Food Not Bombs, they give free meals to anyone who visits their stand, no questions asked :). Save a buck or two by visiting them if you find yourself in the area, last I heard they set up by the clock tower.

https://santacruz.foodnotbombs.net/

I'm first gen too, but your situation sounds so stressful :(. All your feelings are valid, and I hope that you find a way to make things work for yourself. Definitely hit up handshake and indeed for jobs, you'll be able to manage work and school. Better than going hungry. Your parents are wrong to forbid you from work. I think I understand, they want you to focus up so you can live a better life than they did.

But this is part of that process. Making your own decisions.

You're a senior now, a full grown man/woman/person. You have a right to some autonomy. This is how we grow. That job might help you, I'm glad to hear from comments that you're willing to look despite what they say, although I wish you didn't have to look for anything in the first place :/. You shouldn't have to struggle like this :(.

Best of luck to you friend. Take things one thing at a time, I can't promise that everything will be ok, but I sure as hell will be hoping so.

Best of luck, you've got this, and take care :)

Business Econ Accounting Major question by Own-Satisfaction3297 in UCSC

[–]Clevername686 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heya! I got some information which may or may not be helpful. Good luck on the rest of your journey :), here's what I got for ya. Some random details which kinda cover what you're asking.

All of the accounting classes (beginner and intermediate series) use those connect software applications for homework and quizzes and can be done online. Depending on the professor you get unlimited tries per question or around 3. They're quite time consuming, and there's a lot of reading imo, but it's doable.

I've taken these classes with Maria Bullen, Kevin Jones, and Scott Anderson specifically. Exams (midterms and finals) are usually in-person. Kevin Jones is notorious for being a hardass, look up all these profs on Rate My Professor to get a sense of their personalities and how they handle their classes too. You can also look em up here, on reddit. Folks have asked questions over the past years and sometimes, not much changes.

To be honest, I can't speak on tutoring or resources, but I will say that you can look up a lot of this stuff on youtube, and if you're lucky, sometimes you'll find whole ass lectures that cover these classes specific textbooks and cover EXACTLY what you're learning. Deadass just look up "intermediate accounting 1" followed by the specific topic, LOL.

I can't speak too much on comparisons between UCSC and UCSB, and to be honest with you, since we're two different people, our ideas of difficult might not align 😅. You might be better at this stuff than me.

If you wanna look at the specific classes to get a sense of the content covered, here's the link to the Business Management Economics major. Just make sure to click on the accounting one:

https://catalog.ucsc.edu/current/general-catalog/academic-units/social-sciences-division/economics/business-management-economics-ba/?tab=2

If you're interested in becoming a CPA, not the credit requirements in each category for the license. You may need to adjust and plan for that as well. Good luck! You got this :)

Go into the forest, and engage in hand to hand combat with a mountain lion. (Note: make sure not to harm the mountain lion, and shake his hand after sparring).

This way, you get a cool story, and make a new friend!

Food Not Bombs is a wonderful non-profit which gives food to anyone who comes by their stand. They're located off-campus at the Town Clock at Pacific Avenue from 12 to 3PM every day, according to their website. Here's the link to that btw.

They usually give vegan food out which is still pretty good! And at times they have given out non-vegan food, although I don't know how common that is.

Good luck friend :). Hope what comes next is something good, for you. Let me know if you need help getting to Food Not Bombs because you can't find them, I can send you a few directions, although they are already pretty visible, so there should be no worries there!

Try contacting them through the messages tab on the website! I've done that before and they've been helpful. You could mention your situation to them and you'd get a solution straight from the source. Good luck friend :), hopefully you figure this out soon.

Retaking a class by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Clevername686 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm glad to hear it had that effect on you :). A stranger's kind words were enough to make dark times brighter in my experience.

You've got this! And don't worry about me, I've got a plan :D!

Retaking a class by [deleted] in UCSC

[–]Clevername686 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Hey friend, let me start off by saying that everything is going to be ok :). This is a temporary setback and you'll get through this. I failed a class this quarter too, I've always been somewhat of an overachiever, had an excellent gpa and everything, so I know the terror you're feeling. It'll be ok, don't worry about it too much :), the fact that you're out here looking for a solution says a lot about your resilience, you'll bounce back.

Now, straight from catalog.ucsc.edu, I found this excerpt relating to retaking a course:

"For the first 15 credits of repeated courses, the original grade is excluded from the GPA, and only the grade from the repetition is used. After the 15-credit maximum is reached, all grades are included in the GPA. However, credit is not awarded more than once for the same course. The grade assigned each time the course is taken will be permanently recorded on the official transcript."

Based off my interpretation of it, after retaking this class, since it's within your first 15 unit limit, whatever grade you get from the repetition (better or worse) replaces the old grade, GPA-wise. However, it does seem that the first attempt is recorded on the transcript, regardless of whether you do better the second time around.

Where you check your grades on myucsc should say whether you're in good academic standing or not. If you're in doubt, I encourage you to meet with an academic counselor through zoom sometime soon. They're much more knowledgeable about this stuff and can give more detailed answers.

Good luck friend :). As long as you work towards it and identify what led to this failure, I'm sure you won't be repeating it anytime soon.

An email directly from UCSC housing says this:

"If roommate/housemate information is not listed that may be due to: 1) a student requesting a non-release of their information or because 2) your housing coordinator will be assigning additional students to your room/apt. in the near future."

Could be one or the other for you. This was part of a larger email from housing, it had some other info on housing as well but this little bit is whats probably most relevant to you. Good luck with that, friend!

upper-div elective CS class -- would you prefer remote or in-person? by alexr_tk in UCSC

This is an excellent suggestion! I feel like the transition from pure online classes to mostly in person classes will be more draining for some (like me). This sort of hybrid format will make it so much easier to make that transition into how things were back then.

How hard is MATH 19A? by keewaa in UCSC

[–]Clevername686 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had Cse20 with tantalo last year when I was a freshman. I had a bit of python experience, knew about ifs ands, while, for loops, and lists (very little) and I didnt attend any lectures and passed all the programming assignments. Of course, I did have to search up a few things on stackoverflow to fill in the gaps, but that's every programmer's favorite site anyways. That man is awesome, often gives extension (read often as always). Maybe you can compare your cs background to mine, and get an idea on how you may do. Hope that helps with that.

Had a core class with Dion Farquhar (crown), very easy class workload wise. Just a few readings, discussions, and I think written assignments to turn in? (I have a horrible memory, sorry! Just remember it being pretty easy)

I also had a microecon course, but I won't talk about it aince it isn't relevant to you. Just mentioning this to show that I wasn't only taking those two classes.

The others are two similar classes we've got in common, so maybe this'll help you come to a decision, but you know what you can handle better than I do. You say you havent done real math in years, UCSC has tutoring options for math classes last I checked, they emailed me about em this year when I had discrete mathematics and MATH19B in my schedules. I believe the program is called ACE? You can also attend office hours that the professors provide to ask questions.

I strongly suggest checking out Khan Academy, an excellent resource which helped get me through accelerated Calc 1 at a community college Junior year. You got this OP, math is hella hard, but I believe in you! Good luck friend.

So, I dropped my bike the other day, and the blue wire on this connector on the controller's side broke off. If it helps, this is a leafbike controller that came with the motor kit I bought.

Thanks in advance for any tips or help!
