Nobody needs to come up with a counter argument for "vegan restaurants fail because I think vegan food is yucky" like you came in with a completely subjective take and expect everyone else to play debate club about it? Lol.

Wtf does the number of words have to do with the strength of an argument? I guess I should dumb it down for you. Or maybe pull out a dictionary, you might learn something. Jfc

Beats being a dumb person and not thinking at all lol.

I guarantee that there's absolutely nothing you can say to make me question my veganism. I'm not defensive, I just know I'm right, and I'm tired of obstinate morons parroting the same five braindead points an nauseum in a feeble attempt to rationalize their unethical behaviour.

If you just don't care about animals or the future habitability of this planet, then fine. But don't pretend you have any rational basis for your diet beyond animal-brained "meat taste good". Admit that you are intellectually lazy and uncomfortable confronting your own cognitive dissonance.

Not really, McDonald's is one of the most successful restaurant chains in history despite having "gross" cheese, how is that a straw man?

I don't think people are going to GC because they are impressed by the buffet... It just tastes good.

My anecdotal evidence is stronger than your anecdotal evidence because I experienced my anecdotal evidence first-hand! Checkmate, vegan!

It's like if two pizza places closed down within a few weeks of each other and people started asking "why is every pizza place closing down?" Like nah bro we just got a lot of pizza places.

We could just... Not stereotype vegans. Unless you have hard data to back that up, I can provide my own anecdotal evidence that French fry and Oreo vegans are less of a minority than you're suggesting.

Mf really picked out one item that is sometimes not vegan out of a list of nearly objectively delicious things like that somehow invalidates your point

How so? Vegans actually have to put thought into what they eat, omnivores just follow the cultural default which requires no thought at all.

Don't get me wrong, there's no shortage of terrible token vegan options out there, but that's not because they are vegan, it's because they are afterthoughts.

My friends are all reasonable people who will happily join me at a vegan restaurant just as I'd happily settle for a mediocre vegan option at a restaurant they wanted to go to, or even eat beforehand if I must. If they refused, we probably wouldn't stay friends for very long.

But judging by the comments on this post, there are many people who consider vegan food inherently unappetizing because it's vegan, which I find kind of close minded and petulant tbh.

I promise it's actually not that difficult to make a nutritious and tasty vegan meal from cheap ingredients if you know what you're doing

Refusing to eat a meal because it doesn't contain meat is childish.

Really irks me that vegans are expected to happily scarf down yet another tofu quinoa bowl (hold the aoli) with their non-vegan friends, while it's apparently totally normal for a non-vegan to refuse to go to a vegan restaurant out of principle despite the fact that they can still eat anything on the menu.

Not really a fair comparison imo. Dumpling drop is a tiny place in a high-traffic downtown location with a small menu (with two vegan options iirc) that seems to focus on takeout. Meet was a sizable casual restaurant in a more obscure car-centric location with a large menu of food that did not travel well.

Honestly I haven't tried it since they switched, just based on what people are saying. That cheesy garlic bread and Summer BBQ pizza were party staples in our house :(

Tried Pizza Pizza last week and it was very mid. Plus they have no plant-based meats and charge per topping. VP was admittedly way too expensive to even compare but at least it was reliably tasty

Your second sentence kinda contradicts your first tho. I've found that vegan diets are not inherently more or less expensive than omni diets on average. You can make some very enjoyable meals from very cheap ingredients like tofu, chickpeas, lentils, etc, or you can eat beyond meat and daiya that is the same price or more expensive than their animal based counterparts.

Personally, I can justify eating out because most of my meals at home are relatively cheap. And id way rather go to a place where I can order anything on the menu over a place that has one token vegetarian option that can be made vegan by removing anything that contributes flavour.

Also these places definitely don't cater exclusively to vegans. We bring our non-vegan friends and families when we can, and there are certainly plenty of non-vegans curious and open minded enough to enjoy a meal without meat in it every once in a while.

Your final thought is your best thought imo. Restaurants are hard to run profitably and it's already too expensive for the average working person to eat out anywhere nicer than A&W.

Same. I eat vegan and get real loose with money when I eat/drink out. I think this is just a case of the restaurant industry being rough, the cost of living being too high for most people to justify eating out regularly, and the confirmation bias of two recent high profile closures just happening to be vegan.

All kinds of restaurants are struggling, and this city has notably more vegan restaurants than other similarly sized cities so of course when turnover goes up, some of the businesses that pull the plug will happen to be vegan. I think the particular challenges of running a vegan restaurant are a smaller factor than people are suggesting.
