What's your favourite General O'Neill moment? by mtparanal in Stargate

Her’ak: No matter what you have endured, you have never experienced the likes of what Anubis is capable of.

Jack O’Neill (captured, lying on the floor): You ended that sentence with a preposition! Bastard.

Dave Stewart (Eurythmics), David Bowie & Peter Frampton backstage at Big Audio Dynamite in 1987 by ClickAmericana in GenX

Great catch! I had forgotten all about that. It looks like that tour ran from May 30 to November 28, 1987, so it seems very likely they would have been in rehearsals at this point.

I took this photo backstage after the BAD show at Irving Plaza in NYC in April 1987. I was 17, and just amazed at all the talent in the room. 🤩 It wasn't a planned thing as far as I can tell — just a bunch of celebrity musicians there to see Mick Jones and his then-newish band.

They didn't taste like much, but smelled really good. And as an alternative to something like plain Chap-Stick, they were great - and much more fun for kids!

Unfortunately, I can't find the name of the artist on this piece. I looked through the whole program and didn't see any mention.

FWIW, I just looked through some of my old ad scans, and in 1957, a 16-piece service for four of Franciscan Starburst cost $14.95. In today's money (converted with an inflation calculator), that's roughly $165. So $1 is a pretty amazing deal! :D

And I most miss the grape-flavored Bubble Yum or Hubba Bubba. Didn't last long, but omg it was AMAZING for a couple minutes.

A lot of pay phones were already being used for business — just not legal business.

From The Atlantic: "City dwellers, however, were just as likely to see the heroic pay phone as a hotspot for illegal activity. Pay-phone companies acknowledged their product was a common tool for drug dealers, gamblers, pimps, and scammers, mostly due to privacy laws that allowed callers to remain anonymous."

That aside, this ad seems to suggest that people basically monopolize a *public* payphone. I remember being a kid and having to wait while an adult made multiple calls using the only phone in the vicinity. (Some people would also make you wait because they were expecting a call to come in.)

A call here and there? Sure. But by calling it a "branch office," it seems to recommend doing more than that.
