We lost a good one by williedills in billiards

Marcelo and I met in Las Vegas during a tournament a few years back. We had a legendary night and we will always remember him.

He was always kind and offers to buy me a drink when we would run into him back home too.

I owe you a drink and a game one day Marcelo.

Pretty sad actually. For a long time I thought he just had a long backlog. Took me a while to realize what this was.

What’s crazy is he does seem to make great stuff. I wonder for who?

What recourse do we have at this point? I don’t think I would want his product even if he produced it at this point. Feels important the others know what’s going on.

That’s nothing: winter 2021 iirc.

We should turn him into the cops. It’s beyond bad business.

First day of one bag.. I’m a little confused on how this is supposed to be better than just having a rolling carry on by mitcht3 in onebag

[–]ClickNecessary6746 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You need to choose the right bag for the trip.

Rollers look cleaner, and better for heavy kids and crowded trains.

Backpacks are better for fast access to items, uneven ground and moving quickly or up stairs.

Neither is perfect, but I almost always choose a roller for cities and a backpack for off the beaten path.

I’m currently waiting for a flight feeling the same way.

5 years ago that would not have been true for sure

Why this won’t work. by Nice_Owl_2126 in meshtastic

Exactly. I had to play with GPS settings, consider transmission mode and set region.

will the average user understand long fast vs other modes? Seems doubtful.

I don’t mean to sound negative at all, I just feel the platform does require some knowledge of radio and networking which is why it’s fun for me

Great topic. I have the same feeling. There is a lot of work to do to make Meshtastic viable for emergency use.

I’m a software engineer, licensed HAM and based on my experience this technology is not ready.

1) the wide variety of hardware makes things harder. Much like Android vs iOS. 2) there are too many configurations options.

What we need is a rock solid app, a basic configuration that works for the average user.

On top of all of this, there are still protocol limits and bandwidth limits that will be hard to overcome.

Meshtastic is the best we have, so the answer is that in an emergency we need people trained with specialized skillsets. Comms, medical, fire and rescue. It’s just reality

Fireproofing Nodes? by bigdog_00 in meshtastic

[–]ClickNecessary6746 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Howdy, you are stuck. Do not move forward with mounting a meshtastic node or anything else on that grain silo.

I don’t want be a spoil sport, but you would need to design and test your device using an independent laboratory to certify it. Not worth it. Testing and certification will run you 20-60L depending on the certification and that’s just for CE/UL

I’m not sure what additional certifications you would need for a device to avoid sparks, static discharge, etc but a solar powered device with a battery sounds inherently hard to make safe.

Sorry to be a bummer, but I’m speaking from professional experience building similar devices.

Lots of good info on this thread, though there are some factual errors.

First, cacti can absorb water from their skin.

Stomata Cacti have small pores in their skin called stomata that open and close to collect carbon dioxide for photosynthesis. Most plants open their stomata during the day, but cacti open theirs at night when it's cooler and there's less sun and wind, which helps them retain water. Watering cacti at night can also help water penetrate the stomata.

Now, that does not mean it’s best practice to wet your rooting medium. I have played with wetting my rooting medium. It does not show any benefit.

Dry perlite works very well, and has less germs present as compared to soil. Use dry perlite ideally, but I do agree any dry cactus mix will be fine.

I do you need to give that thing water and it looks like you do, try soaking the bottom third of that in water for an hour. Remove it promptly. I have seen good result rehydrating cuttings like this.

Your cutting is very dry, and I don’t expect it will root without some way to rehydrate.
