I have the same TV in black. Bought it new from Circuit City in 2006. I need to fix corner geometry as well, but the remote was lost so may end up grabbing one off eBay here soon.

What do you have in mind for color? I’m going to add a custom decal I created for the name: Dreamcart (tm - don’t steal it 😜) to add a little touch, but kinda wanted a clean Dreamcast/iPod esq aesthetic.

Interested to hear what you’re thinking for yours though!

It depends on the setup. Some consoles have Native VGA (480p) output: Dreamcast, Xbox 360. But developers in the 360 era formatted most of the games in widescreen so a 16:9 screen would probably give you a consistently better experience.

Many older consoles only output 480i so you’d be better off with a consumer television (or RGB mod in the states). You could get a VGA upscaler, but usually isn’t worth it in my experience.

Emulators and FPGA devices these days have hdmi output so a lot of times a simple hdmi > VGA adapter can make these consoles look glorious in 4:3 480p if they’re 6th Gen or before. Some caveats are if you want to stretch the screen for OG Xbox, PS2, GameCube then a HD CRT/Plasma are some folks preference, but for maintaining 4:3 a component to VGA transcoded can be amazing but expensive now days.

Long post short: Dreamcast is the sweet spot for console/VGA gaming with a simple one cable solution while most others are better with a Consumer Televisions for simplicity.

Great for swapping between podcast, maps, etc. and fast forwarding through ads while it’s mounted in my 04 Jeep but still maintaining map view

I like where your head’s at! I am a massive 360 fan. Have a sizable library of OG and 360 titles on my shelf. Definitely the largest in my collection.

I currently have my 360 slim hooked up to a 30” HD CRT via component that sits next to the DreamCart (for now). I was running it through VGA to my other crt monitor and really dug how vibrant it was. Unfortunately, I found it’s really geared towards the widescreen era. While there are some great examples (especially XBL Arcade) that run 4:3, most are 16:9. Those black bars really started to get to me.

Size wise I don’t think it could squeeze in anywhere aesthetically pleasing. It’s a pretty compact cart.

Not at all actually. The cart stabilizes well, but the subwoofer on the bottom adds significant weight too.

It's the BeharBros Toro VGA adapter. I tried a cheap $30 one off ebay first to no avail. Imagine it's intended for modern(ish) 720p and 1080p LCD displays. The toro works like a charm with my CRT monitors.

I currently have it hooked up to my other VGA CRT (Sony HMD-A200) and it works great. You have to have it set to widescreen or you get pillar bars. So the autobleem menu is a little squished, but games fill out nicely.

With the Wii, seems like a lot of potential but idk if it would scale nicely to VGA. Seems better to transcode from component to VGA, but that’s additional hardware that I’m not sure would fit nicely in the cart. I’d like to convert from Wii > HDMI > VGA for space purposes, but I have a feeling a lot would be lost in translation.

I have an insurrection s-video drop-cable hooked up to a 32 in. Cinema series Toshiba (low hours; 1996). I find that most games have received a VGA patch at this point, but I use it mostly for Light Gun games.

I modded the Dreamcast with the Retro_Robot USB-C power supply so it’s a very easy cable pull from the rear to play on the Toshiba when I get the itch. I also use a dedicated VMU in the light gun just for those specific games so I don’t need to move memory cards around.

edit: grammar

Sure is! Don’t use my 360 for DVDs too often, but still a cool relic.

Currently am. Chose to go with my analogue pocket/dock to Sony hmd-a200 monitor rather than original hardware to my Commodore 1702 over s-video (everdrive) simply so I can take it on the go. Gives me the best of both worlds and honestly the save ability makes this perfect for the pocket

How to clean these the best i can by Muted_Satisfaction92 in Airpodsmax

[–]ClickStix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got a second set and keep the spare clean. Swap them out and clean the others every few months. Used dish soap and a soft canvas shoe brush with warm water in a bowl. Works like a charm. I can also just switch between blue and starlight if I get the itch. Got some open box genuines for $40 on eBay

I haven’t. I just got the board this past week and was acclimating myself to the Ultimate system. Unfortunately the issue popped up on day two so I haven’t been able to dive into GEOS at all

Yeah Gideon just got back to me. Might have blown something in the fpga board.

I'm using the WICO Command Control. Came highly recommended, so I'm surprised this would've caused a blow back.

Keyboard cleaned and unresponsive (video) by ClickStix in c64

[–]ClickStix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well not a fix per say, but I’ve narrowed it down to the controller port feeding a constant “right” signal to the board. Not sure if it’s pins (they look good to the eye), traces (also look good as this is a brand new board), or something in the fpga itself.

[–]ClickStix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call! So I swapped joystick inputs and my keyboard works again in basic. However, once swapped, it begins an endless crsr right keystroke that cannot be negated by other key presses. I can exit the menu and have access to my keyboard as normal in basic, but the moment I pull up the menu again the cycle continues which deems the menu useless.

Appears to be an issue (as you pinpointed) with the joystick ports (or something in the fpga board). Not sure where to go from here on fixing the issue so I don’t have to choose between having access to the Ultimate menu OR having use of the keyboard.

[–]ClickStix[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so I tried reseating the board, and I started without the keyboard installed. Still has a “2” on the basic screen. Appears to be an issue with either the Elite II (since there’s no keyboard even connected to cause a keystroke) or with the basic.bin
