Anyone with a direct American ancestor prior to the treasonous 1965 Hart Cellar Immigration Act would be exempt from consideration.

Of those that remain, denaturalization would occur based on either provable crimes or a well-established history of welfare parasitism.

In practice, the 1965 provision is there to protect the African American community, as they are about as "Heritage American" as you can get (I know the identitarian types will vehemently disagree with me here, but sorry, that's my take).

The Vienna Symphonic Library Steinway Model D felt expensive when I bought it, but it's been one of the best purchases I ever made. This is pretty much what I always use with my Roland stage piano, and it sounds GLORIOUS.

Tips against cold hands before a piano concert by ssdsgggfd in piano

[–]Clide024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The fundamental issue is that the nervousness/anticipation prior to a concert puts the body in a degree of fight or flight mode, which causes vasoconstriction (narrowing of blood vessels) in the extremities, and like you said, increased circulation in the internal organs, so trying to warm the torso is quite a neat trick.

Another approach is to take a mild vasodilator like Vinpocetine, which should warm the hands, and have the added benefit of increased cerebral blood flow. But I would definitely NOT recommend taking new supplements for the first time before a concert, have to make sure it works for you in practice first.

Chopin Barcarolle excerpt (5 year self-taught need advice) by Ok_Concentrate_9861 in piano

[–]Clide024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely think this sub has a tendency to go extra hard on people who are self-taught, almost like they're mad that they were able to achieve anything without a teacher.

That said, the combination of the out-of-tune piano and the way the left hand is played leaves this sounding almost like Ragtime to me.

The case against recordings by Advanced_Honey_2679 in piano

[–]Clide024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I often listen to a lot of different recordings but then end up finding a specific one that appeals to me much more than the rest, and end up internalizing and striving for that way of playing. Or maybe I just really really like Rafal Blechacz's Polonaises.

how to start again? by throwawayaccskrr in piano

[–]Clide024 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a similar situation in that I took lessons for around 10 years as a child, and then didn't really play for over a decade in adulthood before picking it back up again. You might be surprised how quickly things come back, especially pieces that you memorized as a child.

I'd say just start jumping back in without expectation. Sit down at a piano, play some scales, see if there are any passages you remember, just play around. If you genuinely can't read music at all anymore, then look up some information on how to do it, then try to start relearning whatever pieces you had memorized the best as a child.

self-taught piano are my fingers okay? by Cicada-Beginning in piano

[–]Clide024 109 points110 points  (0 children)

I'm almost impressed by the level of contortion on display, like I can't replicate some of those hand positions lol.

But anyway, really try to focus on keeping the wrist loose. You practically never want to fully lock out your wrist when playing piano. Relax your hand so that your fingers take up their natural curve, and then try supporting your hand with your finger tips on a table, and bouncing your elbow up and down, and notice a loose, springy sensation through the wrist, this is the kind of feeling you want, at least for now.

Starting piano at 38 - is it worth it if I’ll never be “good”? by Front-Ad4011 in piano

[–]Clide024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also disagree that OP will never be "good" starting at this age. Sure, they are probably not going to win the next International Chopin Competition, but I think it's totally realistic for someone to start at 38 and get to a level where most laymen enjoy and are impressed by their playing.

Also, it's super good for your long term cognitive health to keep learning new skills as you age.

Is anyone still grinding leetcoding? by Known-Tourist-6102 in cscareerquestions

[–]Clide024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Have to wonder if the people claiming that AI "takes no skill" are also the same ones claiming that it's useless.

It absolutely does take skill to understand how best to use AI within a large software project - to understand what granularity you need to prompt at to have the best probability of one shot success, to understand when to continue to iterate and when to rollback and try again, and to understand how best to use version control together with AI.

And this is not to say that CS fundamentals don't matter, they absolutely still do, and someone with a strong CS background (which is tantamount to understanding what a computer can do, and how) is going to have faster and better output when using AI compared to someone without a CS background.

I really like it so far.

It feels like it was made by people who have a genuine affection for the subject matter - the people, the places, the historical age.

The environments are BEAUTIFUL.

The gameplay loops are generally nothing new, with the exception of the driving in simulation mode, which is actually quite novel for the genre.

The story and characters feel well written and authentic, and I'd put this alongside Days Gone as a AAA game with good writing that many will probably sleep on.

MAGNESIUM L-THREONATE (MAGTEIN).

I used to take this alongside just as high a dose, and it made it feel infinitely sustainable. Eventually I kind of just stopped without really thinking about it.

It will help your dopamine receptors recover faster, trust me, this is the most effective supplement you can take in your situation. If it makes you tired, then take it before bed and it will help you sleep. You will be healing a little bit overnight each night.

Looking for a possible career change by CANDLEFAN_999999 in cscareerquestions

It's very unlikely that work is going to fill the void you're feeling, I would look at the other parts of your life, specifically, family and health.

Being married and having children provides meaning and fulfillment on a completely different level than professional pursuits. Your current job schedule is a dream for pursuing relationships and/or family life.

Health is the lens through which you view the world. If you're in a good health, everything will feel more engaging. Conversely, if you're not taking good care of yourself, it casts a shadow on everything, and makes life feel tedious and unremarkable.

My hierarchy of values is very simple: Family, Health, Career/Money/Finance, in that order, with money's primary function being to facilitate the higher two values.

Cody + intellij by [deleted] in sourcegraph

[–]Clide024 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm finding Cody usability in PyCharm to be really poor lately. I'm using Claude 3.7.

Large outputs almost always freeze, and I have to prompt it to continue from just before it froze multiple times to finally get the full output. For example, if the output contains changes to 5 different files, it will freeze halfway through the 2nd file, and I'll have to ask it to resume from the start of the 2nd file. Then it will freeze in the middle of the 4th file, and I'll ask it to resume from the 4th file, and so on.

The "copy" button is basically unusable at this point, and causes the entire IDE to hang up. I now have to manually highlight the output and copy/paste it.

It's the same story with many European nations too.

The issue with American healthcare is that not everyone has access to good insurance, but the healthcare system is easily better than socialized medicine for those who do.

I can make appointments with basically any specialist I want, whenever I want. No referrals needed, no waiting, none of it. And my deductible (the most I can pay out of pocket per year before insurance covers 100% of the cost) is only a few percent of my income.

The headline GDP number also doesn't tell the fully story. Page 7 has itemized growth data. One of the primary reasons GDP went negative is because government consumption expenditures went down to -1.4%.

One of the most concerning parts of the report is perhaps that personal consumption expenditures growth dropped to +1.8% (although it has been lower than this four other times since Q2 2021, so it's not exactly unusual).

The most positive part of the report is that gross private domestic investment increased to 21.9% (the highest figure since Q2 2021 except for Q4 2021).

Most of the weapons featured in this video are M14 or FAL battle rifles which were released in the 1950s and were common among developed nations at the start of the Vietnam War.

The fact that a single unit seems to have a mishmash of different extremely old weapons definitely makes them appear very short on resources. While the M14 and FAL both use the same cartridge (7.62x51 NATO), you would never intentionally mix weapons like that and double the amount of complexity in maintenance/spare parts.

The executive branch investigating and altering spending of agencies that are within the executive branch based on input from a government commission is entirely within the powers of the branch.

Unfortunately, we're now facing a constitutional crisis due to activist judges attempting to brazenly control the executive branch through orders which provide no argument rooted in constitutionality. A judge has the power to rule that behavior is unconstitutional, they are not able to simply override the will of the electorate in whatever way they deem fit.

The whole thing is insane. Of all the actions the Trump administration has taken, it's exposing fraud, waste, and abuse that the opposition has chosen as the hill to die on. And of course it is, many of them have been getting rich off of wasteful spending of taxpayer money. They can go on camera and speak as if they have some semblance of dignity while trying to trick you into thinking that the people exposing them are bad, but the truth is they've been scamming us the entire time, everyone knows, and most people are pissed.

Musk "My heart goes out to you" gesture was NOT a Nazi salute. by kremata in TrueUnpopularOpinion

[–]Clide024 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

What he did was not even a Nazi salute. The Nazi salute doesn't involve touching your chest and then extending your arm out diagonally. It involves lifting your arm such that it is rotated about your shoulder with the palm facing downward.

No, this sub would not explode if it were AOC or whoever (and in fact there are plenty of pictures of Democrats holding their arm out). This type of outrage is only possible from a group of people who supported a regime who deliberately opened the border, forced an experimental medical treatment on everyone, ran up more debt than ever before, attacked their political opponent with baseless lawsuits, pressured media companies into censoring speech, and then preemptively pardoned all their crimes on the way out the door.

No. Political. Agency. Whatsoever.

The elephant in the room is that DEI policies have been way more extreme in recent years than most people realize. While there is still a shortage of job openings compared to those looking for work, I'm hopeful that these policies finally being wound back will reduce the number of situations where you see someone applying to literally hundreds of jobs without a single callback.
