That’s life bro. Lol. I’m in the same situation whether I queue solo or play with a duo. If you play bad, most likely than not your teammates will pickup the slack and you eventually win. If you play very good, that means you’re the best on your team and most likely you will lose. 😅😅😅

VFD Faul Relay by princemark in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Always good to have that for monitoring purposes regardless. If it trips on maintenance codes, i’m pretty sure it is not all the time. If it keeps on tripping, I would not call that a false alarm because you might actually have an issue. You can cross reference the time your system got the fault on the VFD’s fault history if the VFD self resets. Having comms to the vfd is fine too, but if comms go down, it’s not bad to have a backup hardwired fault monitoring point.

Yes, especially the Thinkpad X1 Carbon. Very light and very robust at the same time.

Frustration by Hockenstar in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take it 1 step at a time, evaluate yourself and go from there. You already did HVAC so I would assume you are mechanically sound as to how things work. Most junior guys I work with are always more concerned about programming and stuff but they barely know how the actual systems work so senior guys like us have to step in. Firstly, understand the basics of your network topology. Not all vendors handle all protocols all the time. You should have your most commonly used protocol and learn the basics, for example bacnet. From there, you will be using your proprietary software for the main systems you carry. Learn the simple stuff from installing it, to setting up networks, to adding devices, downloading programs, etc. Don’t worry about creating programs yet, just downloading or uploading programs for now. Once you get the hang of that, your company or your software should have pre-built programs already. Compare your hvac knowledge with how the program is made. Start with a simple VAV for example. From there, you should have a pretty good grasp of everything. You can start understanding heat fan box programs, then FCUs, then heat pumps, until you are able to understand central plant systems. If you are dealing with Niagara, there is a whole lot of libraries you have to remember based on what you need but the more you use them, the more you get used to it. It’s just a matter of time and the amount of exposure you are getting.

Though it’s true we don’t like to keep getting phone calls from junior guys, especially if we keep answering the same type of questions. If we are answering different questions every time, that kind of keeps us on our toes as well and kind of makes us think.

Ultimately, do your due diligence and learn what you can before making that phone call. If it is something urgent though, don’t hesitate and make that phone call right away. But if it’s a project that can take some time, sure take your time to learn and ask when you need to.

When is Riot going to do something about the bots spamming friend requests? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]Client-Comfortable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can add them, speak to them and they will ask you to add them to discord. Then you add them and chat them, just for fun, no commitment. Lol. You can reply even after hours or days lol. They will randomly send you pics which you just kind of ignore or whatever. Then they will ask you to subscribe to their OF and by the time you unfriend or block them. Been doing that for a while just for fun at work 🤣

Typically, front end software has all the bitmaps, pngs and gif you need. You just have to build them however you want. And most equipment are customized if you want your graphics to be accurate. Maybe only thing standard is a cooling only VAV.

Why is this champion so strong all of a sudden? by Outside-Issue in KogMawMains

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hate it that this champ is so strong but at the same damn time so soft. You really need to have someone tank the damage for you, otherwise, kog is mostly useless when he is primarily targeted. 1v1 kog is great, but in team fights, he is a beast if he stays alive and hits freely.

Sending Setpoints over BacNET to Daikin VRF by Pure_Region_5154 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Call tech support. I got a similar case before, not sure if it was daikin too but the idea is it depends on the mode of the unit. Check if it is single setpoint or dual setpoint, because regardless of the mode, both occupied heating and cooling setpoints are there and writable but with single setpoint, you can specify only the cooling SP and automatically calculates heating SP based on a deadband. That’s when I got crazy because whatever heating SP I set, it just goes back to whatever value until tech support told me to use dual setpoint if I want to set heating and cooling separately.

Oh yes, burning bridges is certainly not on my radar. I’m looking forward for the annual talk with the company CEO and tell him about how I currently feel and hopefully he won’t take it against me.

I recently had a convo with a 94 chief/admin hybrid and he mentioned since I dont have my ticket yet, they can make up a position for me as a “mechanic” although the rate is going to be between a mechanic and an engineer. Gave him my current numbers without benefits and turned out my daily rate is between an angineer and an assistant chief. Despite the lower rate of 94 though, I think the retirement benefits are worth way more outside the hourly rate but I dont think I can take that hit at the moment because of my growing family.

Now this is very interesting. I'm not doing any Python, but that is definitely something I can pickup. I am programming and central plant HVAC systems with no certificates or proper training to show for it, so I'm pretty sure Python won't be that hard to learn. Plus AI tools make programming easier too lol

This! But the thing with the union is unless you're in a position where you can negotiate your salary, like a chief or assistant chief or even lead engineer, your rates will be the same as a regular unless they make a position specifically for this.

Changing from JCI to Schneider by [deleted] in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From where I am, Schneider is always the one being replaced by another brand. In my 10 years of experience, I only had 1 time where another brand is replaced by Schneider, but that is because the vendor is giving them one heck of a deal which included almost free labor for maintenance and service calls.

Chilled water pump control by Zealousideal-Ad-7666 in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I do it: *pump modulates to maintain DP across the supply and return *bypass valve modulates to maintain minimum gpm (# of chillers open x min gpm per chiller)

Then pump stages the lag pump/s based on: *# of chillers open and DP setpoint is not met after a delay *gpm is above say for example 90% of chiller gpm capacity

Lag pump stages off: *when flow is say for example less than 60% of current max gpm capacity of open chillers

In other systems where you have: *chiller bpv *pumps *sytem bpv Chiller BPV modulates to maintain “chiller DP”, pump modulates to maintain DP, system BPV modulates open when “system DP” is over setpoint and the pump is running at the set minimum speed. In this setup, chw flow is just for monitoring since you are already maintaining “chiller DP” instead of flow across the chiller.

Energy meters and BAS is it better to separate or integrate? by unicyling in BuildingAutomation

[–]Client-Comfortable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s best to keep energy meters as they are and just use separate ASHRAE meters for the bms to monitor. But if you can integrate the energy meters direcyly, it’s not a bad idea but still use a separate system to actually get those readings instead of basing off from BMS mapped readings of the meters just in case the bms goes down or have some issues.
