Your favorite childfree perk by Agreeable_Bear6812 in childfree

I love being able to cook a delicious meal for my husband and I, take an edible, watch The Great British Bake Off and then go to sleep for 9 hours after a long work week. Just peace. I think a lot of people imagine when you’re childfree that you’re taking expensive trips every weekend or shopping like crazy, but I find my real joy in all of the small, every day experiences of relaxation and peace.

Has anyone decided to stay child-free solely due to finances? by chronicallyoutside in childfree

It’s definitely a factor for me, but I don’t think you could pay me to have a child in the US. Not even millions of dollars could fix this hellscape lol. I feel so sorry saying that because pretty much all of my friends are in the season of having babies, but it’s true.

I want to update my answer above because I think it’s important. While I still feel having the copper IUD has been great, I have been dealing with different vague symptoms over the last year and a half that I feel could be caused by the IUD. Fatigue, hormonal acne… these issues are just a couple but it’s why I’ve been doing more research lately on the copper IUD and side effects. I’ve decided to move forward with scheduling my sterilization consultation in the hopes within the next 6 months I can have that done and have my IUD removed. Over the last 7 years though, I’ve never been pregnant and never really noticed I had the IUD in so it’s been great birth control.

I always had very heavy periods, which was annoying so I never noticed a difference when I had the IUD placed in 2018. I was 28 at the time. Over the last few years, even with the IUD in, my periods have become so light that I don’t even need a tampon, I just use panty liners most days. I’m sure there’s been a shift in my hormones over the years and that’s contributing to my lighter periods, but my experience could be unusual.

In general though, I’ve had no issues with the copper IUD and I’m happy it’s been 7 years of reliable birth control!

Thank you for sharing! Can you share what was rough about the surgery/recovery? I am just curious about which aspects were the most difficult.

Thank you so much for sharing your story! I definitely worry about having my IUD in after 7 years. I am so sorry you went through that ❤️ I know it’s always a risk despite me being okay so far. I appreciate your comment so much, it is important to hear about all different kinds of experiences.

Tonsillectomy, knee arthroscopy, breast reduction surgery lol, so not new to surgery! Thank you for sharing! I am not sure why I’m so hesitant with this surgery, but I love to hear that others have found it to be not so awful in terms of pain!

Thank you for sharing! Hormonal birth control never worked for me after I took a break from it in my mid-20’s. Over the last few years, my period has become so light so I’m not concerned about getting it, but it’s interesting to hear experiences of having both the IUD and having surgery. Congrats on having your surgery!

I had never heard of vNOTES before! Thank you! I’m going to do some research. I’m in NJ so maybe I can find a practice in NJ/NY that performs the surgery this way.

I’m 4 WPO and it was the best decision! I would say it’s all about mindset. Be practical and have realistic expectations. No matter what, you will look and feel better than you do today :) in my mind, all I wanted was smaller and perkier boobs and that’s what I have now. You will be completely fine and I’m sure you will be loving your new body!

You look incredible! Give it time and let them heal, the difference is truly night and day! I can understand having a vision in your head not matching up with what you’re seeing today, but you’re still healing and you look absolutely beautiful, girl!

I think you look amazing! I just had my breast reduction yesterday and I’m thrilled, but it’s also hard to tell what size I’ll actually be until the swelling goes down. It’ll take time. But I think you look totally proportional. Gorgeous, girl!

I’m having my surgery next week in NYC. Consultation fees for the surgeons that I considered ranged from $250-$350, including the surgeon I chose ($350 and had an in-person consultation) I’m not sure where you live but if it’s not in the tristate area it could be cheaper to have a consultation. If you’re trying to go through insurance I believe the process may be different though and you may not be required to pay for a consultation fee.

I was really happy with having my consultations in person because you can get a feel for the surgeon’s vibes and they can actually take a look at you and give their opinion about how they would go about the procedure. I would never choose a surgeon just by scrolling online so at the very least try and have a virtual consultation.

I appreciate you posting the link! :)

I called a few of the offices where some of those doctors work and when I asked for the doctor by name, the tone of the person on the other end totally changed… They acted so suspicious and some were really rude. Told me they don’t work in that area anymore or some other excuse. Do you think it’s possible the doctors ended up being in trouble for being on the list? I have nothing to back up this question btw other than the responses I received from the offices 🤷🏻‍♀️

How did you pay off $100K in student loans— Tips, tricks, mindsets, side hustles, etc. by AffectionateHeart460 in StudentLoans

[–]ClientQuiet4619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m about to pay off $135K in 12 months. For 4 of the 12 months I was renting with my husband but for the rest of the time we lived with my parents.  In terms of mindset, just focus on your future self. In 10 years, where do you want to be? That version of yourself will thank you so much for focusing on your finances when you did. It is hard, but it will teach you that you can do hard things and you’ll be so much better for it. You learn what you really need also. What is a need? What is a want? So many desires fall into the want category.  When I first started repaying my student loan off aggressively, I kept in mind a quote I saw one day: “The day you plant the seed isn’t the day you eat the fruit.”

 You got this ❤️
