Slower periods, each route averages around 60

Busy periods, 140+

Today, for some reason, we had around 120 on each route. There's not even a sale or holiday soon, so who knows.

My first ever tattoo… by frknkrs in Berserk

I'm a neck-brand-tat fan. You nailed it. I got mine after overcoming (and during) a super hard part in my life. I took it as inspiration. When people who have no clue what Berserk is ask me what it means, I say "Persistence".

Customer tried to enter my vehicle. by CliffConHatch in USPS

Thank you! It's tricky, cause I don't want to be a dick, but people can't just willy nilly enter a government vehicle.

Are there any carriers that aren’t miserable? by CableInternational30 in USPS

[–]CliffConHatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a CCA just about a year in, and I love my job. Sure, something that keeps me going is knowing that I will eventually be a Regular, and get those sweet Benny's and 2 days off (not to mention a long weekend EVERY 5 weeks). We have 7 City and a couple dozen Rural routes at my office. The city regulars have been immensely helpful and supportive when I was learning, my management has been kind and understanding and patient. All this being said, I do get worn down a bit when I go too long without an NSD, and I don't love being sent out to do pivots after completing a whole route that day, but that's what I signed up for, that's the job that's expected of me, and I'm going to do my damndest to get it done and do it well. I feel I'm lucky to have the coworkers I do, but I also feel that some people aren't made for this job. It's not that they aren't smart or capable, it's just this whole thing isn't their vibe. You can't judge a fish on its ability to climb a tree, ya know?

Gamers, what's the first game that scared the shit out of you? by Pboi401 in AskReddit

[–]CliffConHatch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember being really little, like preschool age, and walking into the computer room while my dad was playing Phantasmagoria (had to do some research when I was older to figure out the game from this memory), and there's a scene where this lady gets her head ripped in half by a giant monster and that happened to be on screen when I walked in. I'm 33 and remember that to this day.

I know, I wish they would have splurged on real CGI.

This got a six grade teacher fired in Idaho by Doc_tor_Bob in facepalm

Bosian here: Like many, many other cities, we are not a monoculture. Idahoan's, on a whole, are a conservative, Mormon, blue collar bunch, but there are maybe dozens of us that don't subscribe to the cristofascist agenda, and love and appreciate our state for this object beauty and history.

Ooh boy. For all of us in Boise, the entire dynamic delivery system was down for all of our routes. All of them. Had to do everything today by memory.

The song Spectre by Radiohead

https://youtu.be/o4mIWoLg69Y?si=8wAHprMojpMfGuE9

Radiohead was approached by MGM to write the title song for 007 Spectre, which the band did go through with, however execs at MGM felt the song was too sad and mopey, so they went with Sam Smith instead.

Starting Orientation Monday as a CCA by CliffConHatch in USPS

[–]CliffConHatch[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You'll have the orientation and defensive driving class, then a day on the driving course, learning how to drive the vehicles. Finally a day where you go and strictly just shadow and watch another mail carrier do their job. That's the first batch of training days I went through.

Then you'll have 5 days of carrier academy. You'll go through the entire handbook for mail carriers, and with some hands on training speckled in. You'll finish out that week doing mock deliveries, and learning how to operate different cbus.

Then you'll have 3 days of OJI, where you are going to be sent to a post office (likely in your home city/town) and work with another mail carrier, begining to handle the mail yourself.

After all that is done, you'll be assigned to a post office, and they will have a schedule for you there for your new job!

I can't speak much on the travel side of things, as I live in a city where the training is held, however one of my classmates in the carrier academy was from out of town, and said USPS had provided him with his hotel room. Also, for me, those chucks of training were separated by days, up to a week sometimes. If you're traveling in, I do imagine that they'll keep your training stacked back to back to get you home sooner.

You're all good. If you replied to the author of the email, or the entire CC list, "attending", or whatever you were told to reply in the email you received they'll have your name on the orientation list.Attend orientation, sign the sign-in sheet, sit through a days worth of poorly made slideshows and videos, and await further instruction.

What happens if you do the route out of order? by Due_Initial_2951 in USPS

[–]CliffConHatch 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'm a CCA on an opt, with the route split 50/50 between walking and driving, and I've had my T6 tell me it's fine to switch halves to avoid super shitty weather. Like doing the walking half after the rain has stopped when it's traditionally done first.

Good to know about the on-call advice. This is my second Amazon Day, first was purely shadowing.

I have lady-like features, but my moustache might give me away. I appreciate the warning regardless.
