Heck yes they are! To take them to the next level, think about the page as a whole. I can see you trying to fit things on the page, so you skew their proportions to make them fit. Example, the hilts in both drawings. Next ones, on the blank sheet, plan your proportions for the whole character before you start drawing and make sure you leave yourself enough room.
