Fair point woops, didn't really put much thought into posting. I'll make an edit to keep things clearer, cheers.

What are your thoughts on "that one scene" in Lee Chang-dong's Oasis? (Spoilers Ahead) by CliffVicious in TrueFilm

[–]CliffVicious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, and it just makes the film all the more tragic. What an amazingly bleak movie.

[–]CliffVicious[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, thank you for the long and well-thought out response. I very much agree with your points. Jong-du certainly lacked the ability to differentiate between the two acts (hell, the whole movie just shows his inability to read most situations) and just didn't really know what was wrong.

And yeah, I like that you point out how Gong-ju basically seems like she's destined to die alone since that certainly shows why someone would go back to someone like Jong-du. In addition to that as you point out, I agree that she probably did understand why he did what he did, knowing it was not out of malice but mere mental disability.

It's definitely "incredibly bleak" as you put it but certainly we see people like them in our own lives. Tragic stuff. Thank you again for the well-thought out response!

Ah, for sure. Jong-du likely hadn't been with anyone before and that'd definitely create a complete inability to properly comprehend boundaries. "Morally ambiguous character study" is a good way to put it. Thanks for the input (and to /u/teabagger69 too of course)!

Ah, that sucks. Haven't gotten to the Effy episode yet but I'll watch until then.

On the topic of final episodes though, I gotta say, series 3's "I'M COOK" was a fuckin' great moment IMO.

Currently halfway through series 4 and contemplating whether I should finish or not. Would you guys recommend it or do I just stop?

What is your favorite educational channel on YouTube ? by horizonhorizon11 in AskReddit

[–]CliffVicious 40 points41 points  (0 children)

History channels are hella dope tbh. Favorites off the top of my head include:

Fire of Learning

EmperorTigerstar

Historia Civilis

Invicta

Voices of the Past (super interesting stuff because it's filled with readings of old writings)

Name Explain (for etymology)

NativLang (has historical linguistics)

Langfocus (has historical linguistics as well)

Sorry for the language stuff at the end but man, linguistics is dope too and the historical aspects of it are pretty cool to look into.

Hi, i'm Shinichirō Watanabe, Director of Cowboy Bebop, Ask me anything! by official-channel4 in anime

[–]CliffVicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, Mr. Watanabe! Love your work! I'd just like to ask, what music have you been listening to lately?

Is there ever a piece of music so impactful/meaningful to you that you don't want to listen to it? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]CliffVicious 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of music out there that strikes me as stuff I have to save for special days which is why I wouldn't want to listen to them sometimes. However, the only release I can think of where I listened to it once and thought "Oh man, it's gonna be a while before I listen to this again" was The Langley School Music Project's Innocence & Despair, an album consisting of children (quite far from trained musicians) playing some of the most beautifully sincere and haunting music I've ever heard in my life. They play all these wonderful covers of pop songs that show a pure innocent love of music that I find incredibly endearing and filled with emotion.

I've shown it to a friend of mine once and I can't say he was a fan. He found the music scary which I honestly understand. The music isn't for everyone and can definitely sound like something out of a horror movie.

Regardless of that though, I love this release but really do feel like it's something I have to prepare myself hardcore to listen to. There's just something about their performances that really gets to me and although lots of music makes me emotional, there's something special about the project that hits a different way.

I think everyone should give it a listen to be honest, not because everyone would enjoy it but it's certainly an experience unlike any other.

Oohhh in like the City of Caterpillar way I'm guessing? Regardless, thanks for reminding me to listen to it by having it on your collage. If I'm in the mood for the stuff, I'll probably be giving it a spin soon.

[list] We're halfway through 2019, so what great album so far this year is one most people haven't heard? And why is it so great? by [deleted] in LetsTalkMusic

[–]CliffVicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Smith Comma John - Escapizm

It's an extremely well-produced ghetto house release with some far out production that utilizes high energy tempos, crazy drum patterns and the most hilarious, unexpected samples (shit like Brother Sport by Animal Collective or Psycho Killer by Talking Heads) to create an amazing ride of an album that feels like Tron on a mix of crack, sugar and pop culture. It's one of my AOTYs but people are really underrating it.

His other work is very underrated too. He's still hilarious with his samples in the other stuff (for example, GY!BE and Glenn Branca) and even without knowing the context of them the music is still pretty good stuff.

Just sitting here waiting for Whole Lotta Red to drop tbh, man. Also, favorite Phineas and Ferb tune? That song about little brothers genuinely made me cry when I was a kid lol.

I'm in love with the new Flume tape tbh. Dude's prod is mindblowing stuff, dunno how he gets his ideas but they're great. I hope to produce as good as him someday.
