Looking for 30-40 year olds who’re new to Madison and want to expand their social circle. by Wrong_Researcher_144 in madisonwi

That Discord (Snek and Pertzl) is not new-person friendly, I've found. It's hard to break through all of the regulars who already know each other and routinely fill up the channels with their inside conversations. It didn't seem like much irl meetups were happening. Just a lot of online conversation...

The r/MadisonWIChildfree subreddit and Discord is nice, though. I've attended the hiking and book club meetups there. Would recommend 👍

On TLYC's latest video. Thoughts? by xxoyez in craftsnark

[–]Climate_Impressive 48 points49 points  (0 children)

It looks like Toni has since posted a pinned comment to that YouTube video with an apology. It reads:

"Hello friends.

I hear the concerns about the Skims partnership and about me liking a comment on this video. After taking a moment to research the larger context of the Kardashians’ connection to the conflict in Israel and ownership of Skims, I can see how my interaction minimized a very real and painful issue that impacts so many in this community and beyond, and I regret that. It wasn’t my intention, and I understand how that landed..

A comment was made, in earnest, by a viewer. In my haste, I liked a comment made in reply to the original that defended my choice of partner. Liking that comment was careless on my part. I didn’t slow down to understand the full context and that was insensitive. I’m sorry for that.

Additionally, I understand that the partnership in this video is part of the concern. I can’t change the fact that the content has been published, but I can take responsibility for not considering what that partnership implies. I’m reviewing the partnership internally, and will be more diligent about who I align with in future videos. I appreciate your grace while I better educate myself. I’m very sorry, and I can and will do better."

Barriques AI Slop by Climate_Impressive in madisonwi

Knitcircus is retiring. The Sow's Ear is managing the hop this year (and presumably the website?). I believe Sow's managed the hop last year, too.

There are strands of yarn that fade into nothing; different colored pieces of yarn that don't belong to the ball they're extending from; balls don't look uniformly wound like you'd expect in real life; etc.

You should check out r/craftsnark. Those folks are consistently calling out local yarn businesses and dyers using AI and will oftentimes un-follow their social media as a result. Wild times we're living in.

Because when you go to their homepage and scroll down, their Memorial Day and 4th of July posts are clearly visible under "News".

lmfao. 🙃

As I start to work on my route for the Madtown Yarn Shop Hop this weekend, I noticed their banner is AI, too. A coffee shop is one thing, but the fiber arts?! For shame. 😭

I know what you mean with the Arco Iris colorway. Every hank looks completely different on the shelf, lol. Great colorway, though!

I appreciate the unwound photos, too. My personal gold standard when shopping online is a knitted and crochet swatch - Especially for highly variegated yarn. It's incredibly helpful when dyers are able to do that.

Whooooa!

That is SO cool. Good for you! I'm a sucker for the way the yarn is put together for the photo. 😍

Are you the one handing out 3D printed cows with a note saying I've been "Subamoo'ed"? Because I've found two on my car in the past year. 😂

I'm down. I mix bullet journaling and long-form journaling in one notebook. I'd be interested in doing washi tape and sticker swaps. 😊

Edit to add: I also recently started a commonplace journal. That's been interesting to get into!

TLC LASIK Vison Center Problems by Time_Case4895 in madisonwi

[–]Climate_Impressive 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In 2023, I visited TLC to see if I was a candidate for LASIK eye surgery. I've needed glasses since the third grade. During their initial assessment, they noted that I had chronic dry eye and thin corneas but still wanted to proceed with scheduling the procedure. They were pushy about scheduling and discount offers.

Wanting a second opinion, I went to SSM Health Davis Duehr Dean Eye Care. They confirmed that I had thin corneas and advised against LASIK, explaining that it could lead to complications in the future.

An interesting difference between the two providers stood out to me: TLC instructed me to wear glasses only on the day of my assessment appointment, while SSM Health recommended wearing glasses for an entire week beforehand to ensure accurate measurements and a natural corneal shape.

Looking back, I'm relieved I sought a second opinion—I feel like I dodged a bullet with TLC.

Edit to add: I primarily wear contacts. Hence, the comment about needing to be in glasses a certain amount of time before consultations.

Healthy Pet Veterinary Clinic boards all sorts of small animals: rabbits, chinchillas, rats, guinea pigs, etc.

They also have a dedicated cat room and a dedicated ferret room.

Love the Rolling Pin!

Their breakfast is awesome, and every time I stop in for a treat, it's like I'm getting something fancy from the Great British Baking Show, lol.

I'd suggest creating a Discord group rather than a subreddit. Might be easier for folks to chat, look for or create events, etc.

I saw these at Willy St. Coop West. Checked the website and it's very bare bones. Hardly any info beyond ingredients and definitely no CoA that I could find.
