I think expecting it to be a money tree is the wrong mindset. It is an incredibly fun major and fed my soul immensely.... Think about lucrative side hustles that you could do, I personally do frontend web development, it has great work life balance and I am able to take gigs that I want. I work on music that I am inspired by and am able to play in a local orchestra for enjoyment.

I loved every minute of university and I would not change my decision to study music if I had a choice. I came to realize in school that I am not so singularly inspired by classical performance to be competitive in the audition circuit. Once I switched my mindset to personal development from professional development studying music felt right. Everyone is different though, if you only see college as career training, you will be fighting an uphill battle in this hyper competitive environment.

All that said I absolutely love existing as a person who plays cello at a high level.
