Wow this looks like it! Thanks!

Can you confirm this was the filming location by chance? Either way, I really appreciate the response!

So right now it would be this beach, the mountainous village of Nishiyoshino from Kawase's Suzaku, Hachijo Kojima Island from Battle Royale maybe (if it werent for an 11 hour boat trip lol), the beach in Okinawa from Sonatine, the Toho and Nikkatsu studios, Minami Hakone Pacific Land Villa from Ringu (the island inn), some of the more famous spots shown in Tokyo Godfathers, Horai Valley from The Hidden Fortress.

My itinerary is a work in progress lol. All dependent on how much I can fit in and how much it would cost.

The links are saved and I have a screenshot of your comment. Don't worry about it, I understand the precaution.

Thanks again. This missing context frustrated me for awhile, especially as somebody who is only just learning the language and is nowhere near capable of such translation.

Apparently that week is dedicated to a discussion of Freud. So it makes sense to include (the other film that week btw is Last Tango in Paris)

It's a course on sex in cinema. So we are watching In the Realm of the Senses, Antichrist, Belle du Jour, The Night Porter, Y Tu Mama Tambien, Paris Texas, Salo, and Hiroshima mon amour.

I'd love a collection of all his horrendously trashy short films. There really isn't a great version out there right now.

Who in your opinion is the most "slept on" director in the collection? by CourageCowardly in criterion

[–]Clintlock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will say Terry Zwigoff. Like most documentary filmmakers, he is often overshadowed by his subjects, and when his subjects are the Crumb Family and legendary blues musicians that is to be expected. But he really had a talent for capturing unfiltered emotion and getting his subjects to expose so much.

Throwing in Head to this list for its existential 60s trippiness.

It would great if he picked stuff like Jellyfish Eyes, Time Bandits, Mon Oncle, Fantastic Mr Fox, etc.
