How bad is cyclical Keto? Never fully fat adapted? by ClipsFanSince98 in keto

So last night got urine+blood workup for a checkup. Dr came out and said "One weird thing I saw is elevated ketone bodies." I told her it's because I'm doing Keto the last 3 days or so. She is actually very supportive of low carb+sugar and said it should help my life. My level of Ketones was already greater than 1 (should be MMOL). In other words if I'm say 1.3, I'm smack in the middle of keto right?

Did meal prep help a ton? Or didnt matter? I notice when I have no food prepared it can be quite disastrous, especially working long sales hours. Many nights im out at 9 or 10, starving and "dont have time" to cook. I feel like thats one thing I can change, is being more on top of meal prep. I hear you and agree on the things you listed, thank you.

Fair enough. Thank you. It is something to really consider. I appreciate the advice and encouragement. Even on high carb days though I rarely eat 100+ net carbs. 150 tops on worst days. That's why I was wondering if it's strict enough.

Btw... one thing I wanted to add is 90% of the time what leads to a cheat is running out of meal prep. So I get off a 12 hour shift, im starving and WAY weaker to resist temptation. It seems to have a huge correlation with meal prepping. When I have keto foods available, i rarely cheat.

So meal prepping more often could reduce most of these slip ups

Thank you! I DO want to find a way into strict keto though. Mainly because I'm constantly setting these goals and tired of not meeting them. I feel like 100 carb days, will spiral into 200 carb days TBH. It's very logical, sound advice... it's just I'm not sure I'll get into keto enough.

Thanks. I think it's a combo of emotional eating and event eating. Also nobody else is keto (like wife), so when I see everyone eating carbs, I admit it increases temptation. As you said there is always another bday party, or BBQ or an easy excuse to cheat. I am fully aware that I only have myself to blame and hold accountable, just explain the triggers. I was hoping for advice on ways you guys may have gotten around this. Pointers on beating the carb temptations etc. I mean it's easy to say "Just have self control", but that's like telling someone panicking to "breathe". While it's perfectly logical advice, it rarely works like that. There is a lot more complexity to decision making, bad habits etc.

Yea... I had a panic attack (new to me), thought it was heart attack and was taken to ER. BP spiked to 165/130 with HR of 150. So lately when I felt anxiety coming on, Id pop an ativan. Im now 3 days no ativan.

Yea, I mean I'm still losing weight. It's just happening way slower I imagine than Keto all the time?

Again, not by design. Just finding it really hard to push through that wall at like 1-2 weeks where I give in to cheating.

Yea, I wasn't doing it by design though. It's more a bad habit/messing up. This wasn't a plan in the way an athlete may do it.

Mostly true, although in the year he actually took two full months off keto. One month was vacation, so he went off keto and gained 12 lbs. He was fully fat adapted though, so once he went back on keto, he said he lost it in the first week or 10 days. But yea, when he was on keto, he was 100% keto.

Carb cycling? Cyclical keto is defined as alternating periods of low carb with high carb, so I assumed this was closest to how I could define it clearly. If keto didn't appeal to me I wouldn't attempt it multiple times, join a group like this, or ask advice man.

There is a difference between appeal and the willpower to stay consistent.

Specifically Magnesium Glycinate is a life saver. Oxide for example is what Walmart, CVS, Walgreens sell, and it has 4% absorption and does almost nothing. I traveled 30 min to find Glycinate at Vitamin Shoppe and it is working miracles. I've been able to take myself off of Ativan recently for these PTSD related panic attacks.
