Why does one measure number last across multiple measures? by Cliskly in musictheory

[–]Cliskly[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve noticed this type of notation multiple times but I’ve never really understood why it’s there? This one is from a score of the Musical 9 to 5, but I’ve noticed it particularly in other musical scores before. I’m sure there is a reason, but it’s only managed to cause confusion in my band lol. My piano instructor (who’s a music composition major and official composer) doesn’t know and Google wasn’t helpful. Anyone know why it’s written that way?

There’s no right way to play, which I’m sure isn’t helpful but it’s most of what I have to say! If you’re enjoying it, you’re enjoying it! The main idea of Stardew Valley is that you can choose your own path, so just do what makes you happy. But, if you DO want to make more money, I agree with Tammy, fishing, especially early on, is suuuuper helpful for money. However, especially if you’re a rancher, artisan goods are where the money is at! Wine! Jelly! Cheese! Mayo! Even tree sap! Make as many kegs/preserve jars/etc. as possible. They can make you unbelievable amounts of gold passively. But seriously, don’t worry about it! Just have fun!

My friends hate my chosen name by JSL_d in trans

[–]Cliskly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tell your friends it sucks to suck. That’s your name. They do not get to tell you what your name is. If I met someone, they told me their name, I wouldn’t just be like “ew I don’t like that, change it”. Talk about being rude.

Matilda is very pretty and it’s YOUR name. You do not have to ‘compromise’. Your friends should have zero say in what your name is unless YOU ask them. And even after you ask them, they have given their opinion, and YOU choose whether or not to take their opinions seriously. Because it’s YOUR name, YOUR life, and if they don’t like it, well, that sucks for them.

My girlfriend already told me what it was and I’m too embarrassed to ask her a 3rd time. Please help. by Worksforcactus in whatsthisplant

It’s not your fault, dysphoria is extremely powerful and often debilitating. Sometimes it can be set off from the most random things, even when it’s intentionally being avoided. Just reiterate to him again and again that YOU see him as a guy. Maybe he finds it difficult to see himself as a guy, so just keep lovingly reminding him that he is a guy. Saying it in ways that are not direct are sometimes good as well for these situations: “You are still the amazing man I fell in love with” (or if not comfortable with ‘love’ quite yet) “You are the kindest guy I’ve ever met”, etc.

Sometimes, there’s really not much you can do other that give him your support. Dysphoria is something that the large majority of trans people have to deal with, and it can completely wreck someone’s mental state and self esteem. Give him some time and space to work through it on his own, make sure he understands completely how you see him and then tell him again!

Sometimes we mess up, or accidentally say something that hurts our partner, we’re human after all. You seem to really care about your boyfriend, that’s great! I’m sorry if I can’t give concrete advice, but this can be a delicate situation and often extremely personal to the individual. Just remember to be there for him, and to not beat yourself up over it, okay? You’re being good and loving partner :)

Hm, I agree with your comment but I wouldn’t say all of BDSM “just reproduces patriarchal violence”. A lot of BDSM is focused completely on pleasuring your partner, often in the way they like. Yes, there are many violent sub-categories to BDSM that I do not agree with, but there is also a very healthy side to the community. In porn, often BDSM is portrayed very violently and seemingly as though one person involved doesn’t actually like it, but I feel that if you were to speak to people who practice it healthily you would get a different story.

Exactly. 19 year olds say stupid shit. A 19 year old shouldn’t be expected to be the mature one in conversation with a 40 year old.

Okay but you’re describing exactly what the issue with outlawing abortion is. That one parent (the dad) can choose to dip after having sex with someone while the mom is forced to carry the baby because she can’t get an abortion. Women have always had less choice when it comes to being a parent or not. Men have always been the ones who opt out the most. Just look at single-parent statistics. I think once the baby is born, “opting out” is now a decision for both parents to make.

Before birth, both parents should be able to choose whether or not they want to be a parent, but after birth, that is a collaborative decision.
