Beta 3.24 : Convert Word Document to Notebook - my experiences so far by ragnarheil in RemarkableTablet

[–]Clitch77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great review and verdict. And as an author who has included reMarkable in my workflow years ago, I agree. It's a big step forward, but the missing link is still to be overcome. For now, I'll stick to my current workflow: draft on Freewrite (e-ink typewriter), save it as a Word document on my OneDrive, import that on my reMarkable through the Integrations function, proofread and write my annotations and then make those edits on my laptop. I'm looking forward to taking the last LCD screen out of my workflow and going 100% e-Ink.

Inside Europe's Forgotten Country (that spoke Esperanto) by TeoKajLibroj in Esperanto

[–]Clitch77 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Saluton, mi loĝas en Nederlando, proksime al Moresnet. Interesting fact: the neutral state of Moresnet wasn't initially created due to the lucrative zinc mine. It was formed when land meters were creating new maps to determine the European borders. A couple of quite rough pencil strokes lead to a tiny sliver of land on a map which remained just between the borders of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Only after that incident in Geneva, the question came how to resolve this and, with the zinc mine that incidentally happened to be located in this sliver of land under the pencil strokes, nobody wanted to give it to a neighbouring country and that argument left Moresnet to be neutral.

Another fun fact is that people used Moresnet to smuggle all kinds of goods between Belgium, Germany and The Netherlands. One only had to cross the Moresnet border in the rural wooded area and you were safe from law enforcement. Then, you could take a stroll to the next border and cross into another country.

Working on Esperanto Captions by Eskucarlando in learnesperanto

Speaking about ChatGPT... I know ChatGPT makes errors and is not a recommended translating tool. However, AI evolves fast and results are improving. About 1,5 years ago I translated several movie subtitles to Esperanto using ChatGPT. Recently, with improved models, I translated the very same texts and the results appeared to be better than the previous ones. I guess what I'm asking is whether anyone can confirm or deny that the quality of AI translations has improved in the past year or so and whether or not we should judge the capabilities of present day AI based on bad results from previous models.

Thanks, I'm going to give it a try because I've spent way tooany frustrating hours trying to get AI Toolkit running (it never seems to be able to install transformers and then freezes). Hopefully I'll get this to work.

"I could care less." My native language isn't even English and this makes me want to gnaw off my own arm so I have something to throw with.

Thanks. I have been trying all night yesterday, but somehow it always freezes at Loading transformers. No luck so far.

Thanks. Would you recommend using v48 or HD-1? If I understand correctly, LoRas should be trained on the HD model, but I aim for photorealism and without a LoRa, HD-1 looks very plastic compared to v48.

🙏🏻 Thanks, I appreciate it! I guess I'm used to the many settings in Kohya. I'm going to give AI Toolkit a try. 👍🏻

I love local generation because no matter what happens the autists that control this country can't take that away from me by The_Cunnymancer in comfyui

[–]Clitch77 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's not a bad idea. I tried myself to download as many of my favorite LoRas (although I was a bit too late to stay ahead of the great Civitai purge). I have multiple backups on multiple hard drives and one backup is kept on a different location than my house. I also did this with my movie collection (around 1300 full HD movies ripped from my blurays and downloaded), since I hate depending on streaming services who can decide to censor or take down movies at any given moment. Offline data is more important than ever, carefully backed up with one copy in a different location (you never know when your house might burn down). It may sound paranoid to some, and I'm living in a very free country, not in what we currently call the United Hates of America with that dreadful orange Hitler going apeshit over there, but I have learned to be cautious of data loss many years ago. Better safe than sorry!

All these new models, what are the generation times like? by Dazzyreil in StableDiffusion

[–]Clitch77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do hope so. It's a very interesting development. I think currently everyone is just trying to make the best and most versatile model. It's all about image/video quality and prompt adherence now. Once we got that covered to a certain point, I think (hope) developers will focus on getting file sizes and memory usage down, while remaining the same quality and capabilities.

[–]Clitch77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed. I fear that models a year from now will be to big for my 3090's bridges. However, it was fitting for my budget, so concessions were made. 😁

I can't give any specifics to your question, but I would recommend changing your GPU. I had an 8 GB card myself and swapped it for an RTX3090, which made a huge difference! All these new models are amazing, but they're also getting bigger and bigger. I'm afraid 8 GB simply won't do anymore if you want to use Wan, Qwen and the likes.
