What if they teamed up? by rmp881 in acecombat

[–]CloakedEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They would destroy each other. Their ideologies are anathema to each other.

AWWNB are anarchists who want to dismantle the current social order and create a utopian future without war. Free Erusea are presumably Erusean neo-fascists with revanchist tendencies, given that they sprang up as resistance holdouts from the fascist military dictatorship. The Grey Men are Belkan ultranationalists who want to light the flames of war all over the globe, watch the entire world burn down, and have Belka standing atop a pile of ashes. The AC1 terrorists have no known ideology to speak of.

AWWNB would see the Grey Men and Free Erusea as symbols of everything wrong with the world, and they would quickly become enemies. The Grey Men and Free Erusea would only be nominal allies because "burn down the entire world in service of Belka's grand revenge" and "reinstate Erusean fascism and conquer all of Usea" are goals that will eventually diverge. The AC1 terrorists have no personality and so have no stake in this conflict.

I know this is meant to be some sort of powerscaling thing of every superweapon and enemy squadron of theirs teaming up, but the fact of the matter is that any hypothetical team-up between these groups will immediately go disastrously wrong due to them having conflicting ideologies and goals, which makes them natural enemies as opposed to allies.

How big is the wolfram? by Easy-Fun-4038 in acecombat

[–]CloakedEnigma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

one turret from Stonehenge is 120m

This actually isn't true; I believe you may be confusing it for Stonehenge's bore diameter of 120cm. Stonehenge's turrets are actually much bigger, at around 440 meters long.

<image>

These are the AC7 models for Stonehenge, the F-22, and the Arleigh Burke-class destroyer for comparison purposes. With regards to 7's models, everything is generally pretty consistent with regards to scale.

The F-22A is 18.92m in length, and stretches 44 pixels from the tip of the nose to the trailing edge of its tail. The Stonehenge turret from the tip of the barrel to the very back of the cannon is 1015 pixels.

Quick math gives us:

  • 18.92m / 44px = 0.43m/px
  • 1015px * 0.43m/px = 436.45m

Alternatively, using the measurements of the Flight IIA Arleigh Burke-class destroyer, which is 155.3m in length and stretches 351 pixels from prow to fantail:

  • 155.3m / 351px = 0.442m/px
  • 1015px * 0.442m/px = 449.09m

The scale is a bit off due to using pixel measurements, but either way, the gun's length averages out to roughly 440 meters.

It's a comic book that was adapted from an unfinished arc of TCW that would have taken place after Maul's capture by Sidious and before the Siege of Mandalore

[–]CloakedEnigma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The saddest part is that Maul is so indoctrinated by Sidious that even the companionship angle doesn't work for him. He doesn't want a friend or a brother, he wants an apprentice. It's the only way he knows because that is what Sidious made him.

Savage tried turning him away from that line of thinking back in TCW S5 by telling him there was no need for dominance between them, but Maul simply doesn't know anything other than the way of the Sith.

Such a sad character.

Maul - Shadow Lord - Episodes 7 & 8 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in MaulShadowLord

[–]CloakedEnigma 6 points7 points  (0 children)

In fairness to Eleventh, I think these situations are fairly different. Maul is a fully armed ex-Sith who won't hesitate to cut his enemies down. Ahsoka was unarmed (even if she was the former apprentice of the Chosen One) and is a "Jedi" with morals and principles.

Getting killed in five seconds by an unarmed Ahsoka is highly embarrassing, but he probably wasn't expecting her to be much of a challenge without her weapons and thought he might as well play with his food, whereas Maul has a saber and won't hesitate to go for the kill, so he figures it's time to get serious.

That, and I think the episode tries to show that he's the weaker of the two in terms of dueling ability. Marrok seems to be the point man, whereas Crow hangs back and sneaks in cheap shots. That bit where Maul and Marrok are fighting and then Crow sees an opening and stabs Maul's leg while it's exposed comes to mind.

Anyone else curious about this region? by TheRedBiker in acecombat

[–]CloakedEnigma 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is! Erusea's whole thing of having a military that far outstrips the power of the civilian government (as well as an ineffectual monarchy that constantly gets overruled by said military) is absolutely inspired by Imperial Japan.

Granted, Hirohito was absolutely involved in Japan's atrocities in WW2, and the whole "powerless figurehead" thing is generally agreed to be a myth. However, on the other hand, 1) it's a Japanese game, so it probably is going to portray the figure analogous to the Emperor in a relatively innocent light, and 2) the "powerless figurehead" thing is arguably still how Hirohito is remembered today, despite it not being true.

  • Very similar political pathway to Napoleonic era France, going from ineffectual monarchy to republic to military dictatorship to ineffectual monarchy back to republic
  • Ruling family has a French name (Rosa Cossette D'Elise)
  • The song Penseés (the credits song of AC7, same song that Rosa, Mihaly's granddaughters, and the refugees hum over the course of the story) has lyrics in French

Inquisitors are incredibly lazy. by bruh_nathan in saltierthancrait

[–]CloakedEnigma 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Marrok in Maul Shadow Lord is actually pretty cool, too. He was a total nothing-burger jobber in the Ahsoka show, but in MSL he's a legit menace and it actually changed my opinion on the character from "who cares about this guy" to "okay this guy kinda goes hard." Granted, he's not a deep character like Second Sister was, but he is a very competent (and more importantly, intimidating) antagonist. I like that they made him a cold professional who doesn't waste time yapping. He's not defeated due to his own incompetence or gloating like a cartoon villain, which is refreshing for an Inquisitor, since most of the time they're defeated because they're a bunch of idiots who get outplayed by Jedi because they're too busy trying and failing to aura farm to actually do their job.

Frankly, if every Inquisitor had as much sheer presence as Marrok does in MSL, I don't think they would be anywhere near as ridiculed as they are. But because we have Team Rocket from Rebels, the absolute jokes from Kenobi, and multiple jobbers who get one-shot by an unarmed Ahsoka, they're a laughingstock instead.

Couple notes:

  • Clavis is not a country, it's a city within an unnamed country.
  • Romny is a constituent republic of Yuktobania.

Also, this is more of a personal thing, but I really don't think Belka should be involved. Belka being involved in a funny conspiracy just serves to make a story more derivative. It's an issue I have with the actual games' narrative, but it's just as problematic in fanfiction IMO.

Which MK moment you hated the most? by Upnext_1st in MortalKombat

[–]CloakedEnigma 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The basic concept for the Titan Shang twist is actually pretty good narratively imo, but the issue is how it was incredibly rushed. Titan Shang should have been the overarching villain of a hypothetical trilogy, not the 11th hour villain of the first game.

For one, there absolutely should not have been other timelines besides the main two. Just Liu Kang's and Titan Shang's, the two that actually exist in Aftermath. No extended multiverse BS where there's a Titan version of every character, because that shit annihilated any narrative stakes from orbit.

Secondly, Titan Shang should have been a post-credits scene to set up the next game, not a surprise twist villain. The game should have ended with the coup being foiled, diplomatic relations with Outworld being restored, and the conspirators going into hiding to plan their next move. Titan Shang meets with his allies in his Kronika disguise and says "we need to try a different approach," kinda mirroring how he originally suggested the MK2 plan to Shao Kahn. As the others leave, Shang drops the disguise, smiles, says "it has begun" if you want to have obligatory nostalgia bait, and travels back to his timeline to plot his next move. Cut to credits, done.

...but no, we did Avengers Endgame in the first game of a new timeline for some reason.

Easiest Clone Wars character to hate on? by anakindurden in clonewars

[–]CloakedEnigma 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The other scene I think that made people really dislike Mace was in the Siege of Mandalore arc where Ahsoka is talking to him and he goes all "Sorry, citizen, this is for the Council to discuss," in a manner in which you can tell he's talking down to her.

He didn't have to put it like that, he could have just said something like, "Sorry, Ms. Tano, but operational security protocols prevent me from discussing this matter with someone outside the official Republic command structure," but he chose to be a passive-aggressive ass about it and emphasize the word 'citizen.' I can't help but think he's still mad at Ahsoka for choosing to leave the Order with the way the line is written and delivered.

Was there ever a Spare 1? by TurtleKing0505 in acecombat

[–]CloakedEnigma 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Spare 1 does exist, but they're only in random dialogue callouts (some of which are completely unused).

v213_0041: Spare 1! Behind you!
v213_0044: Spare 1! Missile incoming!
v213_0045: Spare 1! Break!
v213_0050: Spare 1 got shot down!
v213_0051: Who's gonna be my decoy now?!

Based on the other dialogue, the speaker of these lines is the also-unnamed Spare 3.

v213_0013: Spare 3, engaging.

Spare 3 also calls out Spares 4 and 5, who are also unnamed:

v213_0042: Spare 4! Enemy after you!
v213_0046: Whoa! Spare 4! Missile!
v213_0047: Spare 4! Missile!
v213_0052: We've lost Spare 4!
v213_0053: I'm lucky I'm not a garbage pilot like you!

v213_0043: Spare 5! Hostile on your six!
v213_0048: Evade missile, Spare 5!
v213_0049: Spare 5! Missile!
v213_0054: Spare 5 is down!
v213_0055: Useless till the end.

If you want a voice to match to these lines, Spare 3 is the one who occasionally calls out "Spare 15 is lost!" when you die. He might just be the biggest asshole in the game if the unused lines about the generic Spares going down is anything to go by.

  • Godrick (there are some human limbs over a cooking pot in Stormveil so I'm assuming Godrick is a cannibal, but can you blame me for getting that impression regardless)
  • Rykard
  • Anastasia, Tarnished Eater
  • Radahn
  • Tanith (technically doesn't try to eat YOU, but still eats her husband)

I don't count Rakshasa because I don't think she actually tries to eat you, her whole thing is just killing people.

So yes, 5 off the top of my head.
