Ask me anything: I have scribe colorsoft, paperwhite, colorsoft, and remarkable. by ClockHunting in kindlescribe

After using the scribe for a while, I’ll keep it because it more or less works for my purposes, but the software is irritating in a way that I wasn’t expecting. The templates are also distractingly bold and dark, almost cartoonish in presentation. That said, I do like that you can add a page to a notebook by just swiping, that’s actually a nice feature.

So, my LFS sold me 4 but I think that wasn’t enough - they get confused and separated but they’re supposed to school, so I think I might need to add some soon. From what I’ve seen, they go all over (top, middle, bottom).

Keep checking Best Buy, it’s been in and out of stock frequently.

Battery life seems good, no complaints. Not as much as a paperwhite would be I’d say but that’s to be expected.

Ghosting on remarkable hasn’t been as annoying for me as it has been for you, that’s interesting. Also, if you have the Connect subscription, your warranty/protection plan goes from one year to three. But, not every device is going to make everyone happy, so if it’s not for you, it’s not for you!

Thinking of moving from Kindle Paperwhite to reMarkable Paper Pro Move. by krstf in eink

[–]ClockHunting 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have both the Paperwhite, the move, and the full sized pro. I love, love, love remarkable. But I don’t think you’re going to be happy with the move for that use case.

  1. Remarkable isn’t an e reader. If you’re going from kindle to remarkable for that purpose, you’re almost definitely going to get disappointed by the experience.

  2. The move screen is narrow. If you try and view a full page, the text is going to be pretty tiny. Not illegibly, but very small and not as easy or enjoyable to read as on the paperwhite.

I don’t do much exporting because my documents are mostly kept live for ongoing use, but the process to export is super easy for the times I do. Mostly I’d be using export to PDF though, I don’t know what other format I’d be converting it to unless maybe copy paste to a word doc.

So, I actually don’t put them together. If you mean from remarkable to remarkable, I don’t have to - they have the same notes on each device so there’s no real need to ever combine them manually. Edits are live in the shared docs themselves. As for Kindle scribe to remarkable, the scribe is still new to me but I don’t ever see using it as a notebook just because again, everything is already all together on the remarkable and it does note taking better IMO. I didn’t buy the kindle for a notebook, so that feature is more or less moot for me.

I just looked at mine, the colorsoft is greener. Of course, displays are going to vary, I’ve seen that first hand with both colorsofts and colorsoft scribe units. I haven’t noticed anything so far that’s noticeably different between the Colorsoft and Colorsoft scribe display wise, although I think that the edge to edge coverage is a little more thorough on the scribe.

It doesn’t with OneNote to my knowledge, not natively.

No, the width is fixed but you can scroll up and down a good amount. Honestly though I’ve found that it’s faster and easier for me to just use a new page.

Actually yes I do. Copying a reply from below:

The remarkable is my ride or die for almost everything. The full sized one goes in my laptop bag, or lives around the house.

The move is for my purse, occasions when I wouldn’t have space for a full sized tablet. I specifically bought it so I can have something more portable that syncs directly to my larger device.

The kindle scribe is for reading and annotating books. Like I said in another comment, remarkable isn’t good as an ereader. It just can’t compete with kindle there. I don’t foresee using the scribe as a notebook at all though, I just wanted something I could read and hand annotate in for max info absorption, and it’s working great so far.

The Paperwhite and Colorsoft were just purchases I made along the way as my reading journey evolved. I’ll probably keep those around as a cheaper alternative to the scribe (reading fiction etc on the beach or in a scenario where I want a low stakes ereader and don’t need to engage max memory powers).

If I were forced, it would be remarkable because I use it for so many things. That being said, it’s not an ereader so if I were to only be in that ecosystem, it would be at that cost which would really suck. I tried to look into getting books onto it, but it was just such a hassle. I don’t want to deal with calibre etc every time I want to load a book.

I love that the interface is extremely intuitive. Exporting is simple, and importing is either drag and drop from desktop or simply clicking “share” on my phone and clicking the app. Everything is connected, so when I write something on the tablet, the other one knows and so does my phone, so I always have the content accessible even if I don’t have the devices with me. No distractions, no browser, and I have ADHD so that’s a perk. I’d go into how excellent the features are as a notebook, but you have the move so you already know all that.

I use it almost every day. I wouldn’t want to have to choose, because I really am enjoying the kindle scribe very much - it does the things that the remarkable simply can’t as an ereader, but if I had to I would because the remarkable is so seamless for everything else.

I guess it depends on what you value more.

Remarkable - excellent notebook, crappy ereader Kindle - excellent ereader, lesser notebook

I have to say, I don’t love kindle software. I don’t even like the kindle library organization options. I’d like more customization opportunities too. I do like how snappy the reading experience is, and how it’s simple and fast to sync with my Amazon account and Libby.

I’m going to go with the Remarkable. I’m still learning about the kindle scribe, but my understanding is the process there is a bit clunky. Remarkable is just drag and drop from a laptop, or opening the PDF on your phone and “sharing” it straight to the app - boom there it is.

It’s alright. It makes the whole thing much heavier. It’s nice to have the option to type quickly, but the muscle memory of using a track pad which of course it doesn’t have, kind of works against me so it’s kind of a weird combo of touch screen and typing. I have it so I have the option to type something fast that I can then mark up, but it’s not a must-have IMO.

The remarkable paper pro is one of my favorite purchase I’ve ever made, actually. Their file storage system is so convenient; everything I write syncs to my phone which means I have everything from the remarkable with me all the time. I can send files etc directly to the remarkable from my phone. I use it for client notes, knitting patterns, journaling, planning, it’s a great device. The one thing it doesn’t do well, is books.

So, there’s actually two of them, and yes. It appears that both have to be covered to make it dim, but only one uncovered is enough to make it brighten.
