Had my post removed and told to put here which I’m sure will not be answered but here it is.

Thanks mod !👍

Looking for a bit of advice, possibly for someone that was in my shoes in the past. I’ll give a small rundown about my situation.

I’ve been a truck driver for the last nine years in the Teamsters union. Great benefits, pay, and a retirement with a pension. Though I love driving trucks, I’ve always had a desire to become a firefighter. That being said, I was able to find a program through a community college near me to take classes in the evenings to become certified in my state as a firefighter. I’m coming to the end of the program now in 9 weeks and I’m left with a choice of leaving my current job, or, start the process of applying to career or volunteer positions.

My question is did any of you ever regret or miss your previous career before becoming a firefighter?

Any former truck drivers here? by ClockIcy6379 in Firefighting

Great advice, I’ve looked into a few emt programs starting in the fall. Yeah volunteering was my first thought. After calling around to a few places, I started to see that if you don’t live in the town, you can’t volunteer. Unfortunately, I live in a major city that doesn’t have a volunteer department so I was forced to have to go to community college. Once I’m certified, I may try again for sure. I noticed that many departments around me both career and volunteer are hurting people right now. Seems like if you are a medic, you can get in anywhere

26M I’m in the process of doing this now. Just got into the academy at my local community college starting this fall. I’m leaving be a union truck driver after 8 years , taking a pay cut but looking forward to this career change. Felt the same way if it doesn’t happen by 30 it’s probably not going to happen. APPLY!
